Bodybuilding-Arnold Schwarzenegger Total Rebuild-The way to Mr.Olympia 1980-.avi
-
0:01 - 1:30♪
-
1:30 - 1:35(Tom) I consider Arnold, not Arnold- I consider him bodybuilding.
-
1:35 - 1:39Arnold is bodybuilding to me and to everyone else.
-
1:39 - 1:42Arnold is what open the door for us. Before,
-
1:42 - 1:47Arnold and Franco- Arnold and Franco were the first real pros of bodybuilding,
-
1:47 - 1:50before them there was no such thing as professional bodybuilding.
-
1:50 - 1:54Now there's maybe 20 or 25 professionals able to do it
-
1:54 - 1:58what all of us are doing here today, throughout the year.
-
1:58 - 2:03But without Arnold's initial influence and initial onset
-
2:03 - 2:06to the scene it would never be where it is today.
-
2:06 - 2:11(Interviewer) But if we accept the idea that the sport has progressed in the last five years.
-
2:11 - 2:13>> It certainly has.
-
2:13 - 2:15(Interviewer) Well, how would you rate Arnold's
-
2:15 - 2:17chances if he was in shape the same as he was before,
-
2:17 - 2:20in say competing tomorrow?
-
2:20 - 2:21>> He'd win.
-
2:21 - 2:24(Bill) I think that Arnold would have his hands full if he were to compete
-
2:24 - 2:28now unless he really became really serious about his training and did all
-
2:28 - 2:32it was necessary for him to do to get in tip top shape but if Arnold
-
2:32 - 2:34were able to come back and win this contest after a short
-
2:34 - 2:37interval it means the sport of bodybuilding has literally stood still for the
-
2:37 - 2:39past five years this
-
2:39 - 2:43in my opinion is not true.
-
2:43 - 2:46(Announcer) Okay the first contestant is Danny Padilla,
-
2:46 - 2:50Boyer Coe is the second contestant, Roy Duval is the third,
-
2:50 - 3:02the fourth contestant, Arnold Schwarzenegger,
-
3:02 - 3:04Roger Walker is number five,
-
3:04 - 3:12Roger Walker from Australia, Roy Callender
-
3:12 - 3:15number six Roy Callender
-
3:15 - 3:19(Arnold) originally I had intended on eight weeks ago to start training
-
3:19 - 3:23very hard with the objective in mind to get in the best possible shape
-
3:23 - 3:28for a film I'm going to do, which is Conan the Barbarian and we're going to
-
3:28 - 3:33shooting the first few scenes in October so I really wanted to be muscular
-
3:33 - 3:37because the idea was that Conan was a very muscular heroic looking guy,
-
3:37 - 3:41and I should be in top shape so all along with sword fighting lessons and
-
3:41 - 3:45dancing lessons and all of that, I did my bodybuilding. But the closer I came to
-
3:45 - 3:50this competition the more people started speculating in the idea that
-
3:50 - 3:58I would be competing. And uh the more I started thinking about the possibility.
-
3:58 - 4:03So on three weeks or two weeks ago I decided well, I think it would be kind of an
-
4:03 - 4:09interesting challenge really to do something in eight weeks that most of the
-
4:09 - 4:24guys do in preparing a year or two years in advance.
-
4:24 - 4:26When I train it really
-
4:26 - 4:31depends on what body part I'm training and what I think about, but it always
-
4:31 - 4:35has to be something that has involved with some form or another with self
-
4:35 - 4:38hypnosis you know I really psych myself up for it because otherwise it's
-
4:38 - 4:43impossible to squat with four or 500 pounds is really hard to do that and it can
-
4:43 - 4:47be boring so what you do is you create some sort of excitement you think
-
4:47 - 4:52about the next set for the particular muscle that you're training, you try to
-
4:52 - 4:57isolate the muscle you try to pump it up and let the blood go in this area
-
4:57 - 5:05and stuff like that. And you feedback that the muscle is responding and that means growth.
-
5:05 - 5:26>> Can you pull up right here? Okay thank you.
-
5:26 - 5:28>> Okay little higher?
-
5:28 - 5:32>> No lower.
-
5:32 - 5:50(Weights Clanging)
-
5:50 - 5:55In the films when there's a camera around you always do
-
5:55 - 6:01like this (weights clanging) to make the drama build up a little bit
-
6:01 - 6:03>> Yeah yeah, to show there's over a hundred pounds.
-
6:03 - 6:07>> It's a 10 pound plate but you must make it sound like it's 1000 pounds.
-
6:07 - 6:10>> So everybody thinks you are a...
-
6:10 - 6:14>> Macho
-
6:14 - 6:58(music)
-
6:58 - 7:07>> 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,
-
7:07 - 7:19>> (Counting in a foreign language)
-
7:19 - 7:21>> Concentration is one of the things that helps you in bodybuilding with
-
7:21 - 7:25anything, focusing and concentrating on one thing and not
-
7:25 - 7:31no matter if there's a bomb exploding around you, you do not lose
-
7:31 - 7:46concentration it's a wonderful thing to be equipped with, you know
-
7:46 - 7:52>> Striving after an ideal in a sense that you are molding your physique,
-
7:52 - 7:56right, you're developing your body, you're changing the contour, the
-
7:56 - 8:01shapes the muscle so it looks a certain way you wanted to look, a certain
-
8:01 - 8:09mental perception you perceive trying to gain that or trying to make yourself
-
8:09 - 8:14into that perception it's a lot of mental training involved in bodybuilding,
-
8:14 - 8:22I think also your cultivating a feeling inside you have a need a calling much
-
8:22 - 8:25like a priest, have this inert need to do something you must do it you'll not be
-
8:25 - 8:27happy unless it's fulfilled and that's where I'm at, that's why I'm here today.
-
8:27 - 8:31In fact I believe very much that bodybuilding is more mental than physical
-
8:31 - 8:38you're concerned first of all with this mental projection what you want to look
-
8:38 - 8:42like, which want to be like as far as the contour and shape of the body
-
8:42 - 8:47you're concerned with daily feelings of exercises and handles and muscles
-
8:47 - 9:02you're concerned with putting your mind in the muscle.
-
9:02 - 9:06(Announcer) Remember also that every man in this competition is already
-
9:06 - 9:12a world champion, to be able to compete in the Mr. Olympia the first
-
9:12 - 9:16requisite is that you must have won a Mr. Universe title or a
-
9:16 - 9:32World Championship. (Applause)
-
9:32 - 9:38Facing me please. Face me please.
-
9:38 - 10:01Chris this way please. (Tricep pose) Tricep pose please. Turn forward
-
10:01 - 10:03Turn forward
-
10:03 - 10:07(Arnold) I was worried from the time I stepped on the stage for the first
-
10:07 - 10:13round it's amazing how insecure you get after not being on stage for five
-
10:13 - 10:20years when I used to go out and it was my home on stage this time I went
-
10:20 - 10:24out I felt very uncomfortable you know being a showpiece out there you
-
10:24 - 10:30know being able to people look at you in a bathing suit. I'm the kind of
-
10:30 - 10:36character that doesn't like to expose himself okay and whatever you see
-
10:36 - 10:42on stage, that's you, and when you watch someone and the way he trains
-
10:42 - 10:46that's an extension of him and I felt this time I had exposed myself for an
-
10:46 - 10:52hour or two and be compared to all those different guys and that is what
-
10:52 - 11:16I didn't like it all. The important thing is that you always challenge yourself
-
11:16 - 11:25I'm a strong believer in the philosophy of staying hungry you don't always
-
11:25 - 11:27being hungry for more and being hungry for bigger and better things and
-
11:27 - 11:31whenever I have achieved the goal then immediately after that I ask myself
-
11:31 - 11:36what other challenge can I put up to try to achieve and that's what staying
-
11:36 - 12:24hungry basically means.
-
12:24 - 12:29I'm a strong believer in the Western philosophy
-
12:29 - 12:34of conquering, of achieving, of climbing, of getting higher and higher to the
-
12:34 - 12:38top it all of those things because that's in my opinion what life is all about
-
12:38 - 12:54living rich rather than just existing and just wasting away your life since we only have one now
-
12:54 - 13:01(Tom) I consider bodybuilding philosophical very much so I question my existence,
-
13:01 - 13:06why do I exist? Where my going? I always have this craving for more,
-
13:06 - 13:10I compare this to Jonathan Livingston Seagull. The Seagull wanted to
-
13:10 - 13:16do something different than normal everyday things than what he was
-
13:16 - 13:21supposed to do and they urged him to do he wanted to expand and wander
-
13:21 - 13:26and to do something unique and artistic and not only in the sense of expanding
-
13:26 - 13:33his artistic ability but in the sense of expanding his awareness. To me it's
-
13:33 - 13:36the same type of thing I associate with my body building, so naturally the
-
13:36 - 13:42dedication I have for the sport is very intense, I'll give anything, I'll give total
-
13:42 - 13:46commitment to do it, because I must do it the best or better that
-
13:46 - 13:50I can possibly can do it or my ability. That's what it's about tomorrow night
-
13:50 - 13:54on the stage all year long I've been doing this and now the final
-
13:54 - 13:59day is here to show what I've done.
-
13:59 - 18:06(Music)
-
18:06 - 18:11(Announcer) Three-time Mr. Olympia, Frank Zane!
-
18:11 - 18:17(Samir) Number one, I will win, I will come on strong, stay long, talk loud, and
-
18:17 - 18:23win the Olympia crowd, that's it. Say it, believe it, achieve it , simple as that.
-
18:23 - 18:27Schwarzenegger goes today. I beat the Zane I beat the Schwarzenegger Samir
-
18:27 - 18:30is coming on strong.
-
18:30 - 18:30>> Allright! Right on!
-
18:30 - 18:32>> The Lebanese man.
-
18:32 - 18:38>> The Lebanese lover (Laughing)
-
18:38 - 18:41>> How you doing Kenny? He's my manager.
-
18:41 - 18:43>> Good
-
18:43 - 18:45>> That's Kenny my manager he is responsible for signing the checks easy-going
-
18:45 - 18:48>> he has the pen. Pen is mightier than the muscle in this particular case. Right?
-
18:48 - 18:50>> A gold pen
-
18:50 - 18:55>> Remember the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules.
-
18:55 - 18:56>> That's right
-
18:56 - 18:58>> Zane and Arnold are in big trouble today.
-
18:58 - 19:02>> I know that
-
19:02 - 19:03>> Remember that
-
19:03 - 19:07>> Oh yeah I will. I will remember that
-
19:07 - 19:12>> This damn thing is so close there're so many great bodies in that arena
-
19:12 - 19:15>> I've never seen so many guys come in shape on one contest
-
19:15 - 19:25>> Yes that's right it's a dangerous situation I picked the right year didn't I?
-
19:25 - 19:34>> It's smooth today
-
19:34 - 19:47>> You take that off for me? Excellent
-
19:47 - 19:50>> A little bit too light maybe
-
19:50 - 19:59>> Nah you look great. You've never been that ripped
-
19:59 - 20:04>>I just saw something here tonight right in here that didn't exist on stage today
-
20:04 - 20:12> With that fucking lighting...
-
20:12 - 20:24>> Good, brutal, massive, brutal that's it
-
20:24 - 20:29>> He looks better than ever by far he looks better than ever. Ripped.
-
20:29 - 20:31How can you look more than better than ever?
-
20:31 - 20:34>> That's pretty hard to do I mean next year better than ever.
-
20:34 - 20:41>> Yeah, But this is next year. >>You've been reading some Philosophy too I see
-
20:41 - 20:45>> I've been doing that every night, philosophy. It's interesting it keeps my mind clear
-
20:45 - 20:49Fantastic
-
20:49 - 20:51>>Confused.
-
20:51 - 21:02I'm lost, (laughing) What do I do now?
-
21:02 - 21:04>> How long you think it will be until we get up there?
-
21:04 - 21:05>> About an hour
-
21:05 - 21:09>> An hour?
-
21:09 - 21:11>> Yes
-
21:11 - 21:28(Speaking a foreign language)
-
21:28 - 21:35>> I would relax if I were you
-
21:35 - 21:39>> Are we going to find out how much more time it is?
-
21:39 - 21:41>> We have exactly 20 minutes, okay?
-
21:41 - 21:43>> You going out there?
-
21:43 - 21:44>> Yeah
-
21:44 - 21:48>> You can actually create a vision of what the body will look like and then
-
21:48 - 21:54you mold your body closer and closer to that vision and actually you would
-
21:54 - 22:00turn that vision into reality.
-
22:00 - 22:09And it's wonderful really to see that happening, that
-
22:09 - 22:13you can actually see it in front of you which I see they call the third eye where
-
22:13 - 22:19you visualize what you want to be in reality and then you get closer and closer
-
22:19 - 22:39to that and that's known a thing and what they call it
-
22:39 - 22:50>> Perfect
-
22:50 - 22:54>> And also I think just the experience of being much stronger than everybody
-
22:54 - 23:00else I think that's an unbelievable experience you feel richer you feel that
-
23:00 - 23:05sooner or later you can do anything.
-
23:05 - 23:54(Music)
-
23:54 - 24:06>>Now whose are these, They're pretty, These yours? Yeah
-
24:06 - 27:21(Music)
-
27:21 - 27:27I had a good time I'm in the best shape of my life I feel great, you know
-
27:27 - 27:32what I mean?. When you know you put your total being every bit of inner
-
27:32 - 27:49person into your training up to this day you feel good no matter what feel good in that sense
-
27:49 - 27:51>> See you later
-
27:51 - 28:09>> Okay
-
28:09 - 28:16>> Do you want the neck? It's perfect everything is perfect. About the underside
-
28:16 - 28:33(flash sounds from cameras)
-
28:33 - 28:38(off camera) okay Danny Padilla
-
28:38 - 28:44(Arnold) Everybody likes to be wanted and needed and appreciated and
-
28:44 - 28:48loved and all those things some people only have it in a limited way, you know
-
28:48 - 28:54by just being loved by their family or by their children or by their brother or
-
28:54 - 29:02whatever their wife some people like more than that I'm one of them.
-
29:02 - 29:18(sounds of flashbulbs)
-
29:18 - 29:22To me it's always a great pleasure to perform in front of audiences it really
-
29:22 - 29:32turns me on and it's really an enjoyable thing when you see people enjoying what you do.
-
29:32 - 29:48(Announcer) Arnold Schwarzenegger (Applause)
-
29:48 - 32:00(Music)
-
32:00 - 32:01That was exactly like it
-
32:01 - 32:09used to be I got so turned on that brought back so many great memories.
-
32:09 - 32:16>> It's amazing when you're out of it for five years you have to like learn all
-
32:16 - 32:26over again every step and um is just a wonderful experience puts you right
-
32:26 - 32:30back where you belong which is definitely there in the sky
-
32:30 - 32:34>> You put it together Arnold you put it together in two months or two weeks
-
32:34 - 32:37with the last week really
-
32:37 - 32:39>> Two months altogether.
-
32:39 - 32:44>> All I wish I could do- I had a time machine and just wind it to the front
-
32:44 - 32:50like an hour and a half because then we know much more
-
32:50 - 32:54>> I could tell you right now we know I know there's one class of bodybuilder
-
32:54 - 32:58and then there is your class
-
32:58 - 33:07>> After this? Hungry, craving some food in general looking forward to
-
33:07 - 33:11tomorrow I'm worrying about today
-
33:11 - 33:18>>I want an Ice cream soda about that big and a pizza pie. And what you want? A bottle of wine? Cheese?
-
33:18 - 33:20>> A bottle of wine, bread and cheese please right now.
-
33:20 - 33:23>How'd if feel out there?
-
33:23 - 33:33>> It felt great, it was uh, I mean I uh, I have heard throughout the whole day today
-
33:33 - 33:40that it's a very close contest and um, you know, I want to make sure when it's that close
-
33:40 - 33:46the last minute, you put in it this that you have, and so that's what I did, I really had my friends
-
33:46 - 33:53phyche me up and told me that- be brutal and to get into it, just like in the old days,
-
33:53 - 33:58and so that's what I tried to do, to get really into it and pose, and feel the audience, and if the audience likes
-
33:58 - 34:04one pose, to stay longer at that pose, if the audience didn't like another pose to just get out of it as fast as possible
-
34:04 - 34:10you know those things, so it was like I came closer and closer to the old days,
-
34:10 - 34:16in this last routine, so I feel really good right now and there's one more round with the pose-off,
-
34:16 - 34:22the six best, which are the six best guys, and I think that's exactly when I hit my 10.
-

-
35:48 - 35:53Yeah I'm the best I can be right now.
-
35:53 - 35:58(Arnold) Most people are too close to what they're doing that they can't
-
35:58 - 36:01see themselves anymore but I always step back and laugh at myself
-
36:01 - 36:05because it's really you can't take it seriously the whole thing you can't is just
-
36:05 - 36:10something that I believe we have to do certain things in order to keep us going,
-
36:10 - 36:14motivated, pick little goals go out and stuff like that.
-
36:14 - 36:20(Cheering and Applause)

-
36:44 - 36:50you're doing and laugh about it because it's all fun being the best built man
-
36:50 - 36:54in the world it's very funny.
-
36:54 - 37:58(Music)
-
37:58 - 38:05(Arnold) I believe in Jim Beam. It's one of the most remarkable
-
38:05 - 38:09products not only in the United States but all over the world.
-
38:09 - 38:15People sometimes use it to get high in a bar maybe after depression some bad
-
38:15 - 38:20business deals all away around. But we bodybuilders obviously use it as a high
-
38:20 - 38:27protein and amino acid supplement.
-
38:27 - 38:35>> How to use that Mr. Schwarzenegger?
-
38:35 - 38:36>> We usually put it in a sophisticated kind of
-
38:36 - 38:38>> Jigger?
-
38:38 - 38:42>> Yeah now it's very important you take the right measurement here because (sound of gulping)
-
38:42 - 38:45>> I have never drank in my life
-
38:45 - 38:48>> Wait a minute
-
38:48 - 38:52>> Oh my God the skin is coming apart it's amazing
-
38:52 - 39:03>> Anyway ladies and gentlemen do you want to get it pumped buy something from Jim.
