Minecraft :: Part 76 :: Automatic Sugarcane Farm!

  • 0:13 - 0:15
    And how's it going everybody?
  • 0:15 - 0:17
    Welcome back to another episode
  • 0:17 - 0:19
    of the Minecraft Let's Play.
  • 0:20 - 0:21
My name, of course, is System Z
  • 0:22 - 0:24
and today we're not going to be doing
  • 0:24 - 0:25
    that much building.
  • 0:25 - 0:26
    In fact,
  • 0:26 - 0:27
I'm not sure if we're really going to be
  • 0:27 - 0:29
    doing any building at all.
  • 0:29 - 0:30
    And screenshot!
  • 0:30 - 0:32
I just took a screenshot [laugh] on accident.
  • 0:32 - 0:33
    Um.
  • 0:33 - 0:35
But yeah - we're gonna be doing redstone,
  • 0:35 - 0:36
    not really much of it,
  • 0:36 - 0:38
we're just going to be hooking up
  • 0:38 - 0:40
the sugarcane part of the build
  • 0:40 - 0:43
which I featured, or explained, last episode.
  • 0:43 - 0:46
So let's kind of make a full 180 here
  • 0:46 - 0:48
and turn around and let me show you guys
  • 0:48 - 0:50
    the progress I have made.
  • 0:50 - 0:52
Which, I'll be honest, is not that much.
  • 0:52 - 0:54
I've kind of added on these side little wings
  • 0:54 - 0:56
but I don't know if I'm gonna keep them.
  • 0:56 - 0:57
I'm just trying to figure out where
  • 0:57 - 0:59
I want to go with this design but
  • 0:59 - 1:00
    you can see the landscaping
  • 1:00 - 1:02
    is starting to fill out.
  • 1:02 - 1:03
I've filled in the river here,
  • 1:04 - 1:05
    or the little waterway,
  • 1:05 - 1:07
and that's where the waterfall is gonna go.
  • 1:07 - 1:09
We're gonna be working in that area today.
  • 1:09 - 1:12
Basically just creating a, uh, an
  • 1:12 - 1:14
    automatic sugarcane farm.
  • 1:14 - 1:17
That way fireworks will be pretty easy to make
  • 1:17 - 1:19
[laugh] uh, but in terms of building,
  • 1:19 - 1:20
    not much is gonna happen.
  • 1:21 - 1:23
So there's a few things we're gonna have to do
  • 1:23 - 1:24
in order to make this work.
  • 1:24 - 1:26
So let me fly back here.
  • 1:26 - 1:27
The only thing I don't like about
  • 1:27 - 1:29
these fireworks is they are so quick.
  • 1:29 - 1:31
    We're just gonna land here.
  • 1:31 - 1:33
And, well, I guess I don't really have to
  • 1:33 - 1:35
use that, I'll just fall down here.
  • 1:35 - 1:38
We're gonna need sugarcane, of course
  • 1:38 - 1:40
a water source here on the side
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    pistons and observer blocks.
  • 1:42 - 1:45
This is the first time I'm using those!
  • 1:45 - 1:47
So I've got a lot of crafting to do,
  • 1:47 - 1:49
and I think we're just gonna go ahead
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    and go straight for it.
  • 1:51 - 1:52
    So without further ado,
  • 1:52 - 1:54
    let's introduce a new segment...
  • 1:54 - 1:57
    the crafting montage.
  • 1:57 - 2:14
    [music]
  • 2:15 - 2:18
Alright, I have everything I need
  • 2:18 - 2:21
    for a successful redstone build.
  • 2:21 - 2:23
And I love that you can slowly
  • 2:23 - 2:26
see the cabin, like, resolving in the
  • 2:26 - 2:27
    background. Very atmospheric.
  • 2:27 - 2:28
    I love it.
  • 2:29 - 2:30
I still have to do the landscaping
  • 2:30 - 2:32
over here, though, which is, you know
  • 2:32 - 2:34
a bummer. I really wanna get to it, but I wanna
  • 2:34 - 2:35
    livestream it. I just - I haven't had
  • 2:35 - 2:37
the time. So let's go ahead
  • 2:37 - 2:38
    and grab this sugarcane here,
  • 2:38 - 2:40
    which is EXTREMELY loud.
  • 2:40 - 2:41
    But there we go.
  • 2:41 - 2:42
We've got 20 out of that,
  • 2:42 - 2:45
which is all perfect, fine, and dandy.
  • 2:45 - 2:47
Alright, so I've got the basic
  • 2:47 - 2:49
set of tools that we need to do this.
  • 2:49 - 2:51
    We have the observers,
  • 2:51 - 2:53
    the pistons,
  • 2:53 - 2:54
    the hoppers,
  • 2:54 - 2:55
    the chests,
  • 2:55 - 2:57
and the redstone - of course.
  • 2:57 - 3:00
Now this is a very, very easy redstone build.
  • 3:00 - 3:02
So please do not judge me.
  • 3:02 - 3:03
Do not judge me at all.
  • 3:03 - 3:05
And there is a plane passing by in the background.
  • 3:05 - 3:08
So if you hear that... that's what it is [laugh].
  • 3:08 - 3:09
Uh, but this is probably not gonna take
  • 3:09 - 3:11
    that long at all,
  • 3:11 - 3:12
now that I think about it.
  • 3:12 - 3:15
Uh, it's gonna be a very, very easy build
  • 3:15 - 3:16
    if you ask me.
  • 3:16 - 3:18
But anyways - let's just get straight
  • 3:18 - 3:19
    into it. Enough babbling!
  • 3:19 - 3:20
I have a problem with that.
  • 3:20 - 3:22
I've noticed that, and a few of you
  • 3:22 - 3:23
have called me out on it.
  • 3:23 - 3:26
I have a problem with babbling on [laugh]
  • 3:26 - 3:27
and just not getting to the point!
  • 3:27 - 3:29
So let's try and hurry this up.
  • 3:29 - 3:30
    So the idea here...
  • 3:30 - 3:32
I'm gonna use stone as an example.
  • 3:32 - 3:35
So let's say you have sugarcane there, right?
  • 3:35 - 3:38
And the blocks we're doing this on are
  • 3:38 - 3:39
    these 3, plus that one,
  • 3:39 - 3:40
    and then these 3.
  • 3:40 - 3:41
    But these sides?
  • 3:41 - 3:43
    They're not gonna be sugarcane.
  • 3:43 - 3:45
That's just pathways over into it.
  • 3:45 - 3:47
    But anyways, let's close this.
  • 3:47 - 3:49
Not for any reason, but just...
  • 3:49 - 3:51
just because I wanna close it [laugh].
  • 3:51 - 3:54
Uh, we're gonna have sugarcane here
  • 3:54 - 3:55
and then we're gonna have a line of stone.
  • 3:55 - 3:57
So let's go ahead and place all of this
  • 3:57 - 3:59
    just all the way across.
  • 3:59 - 4:00
    I think 'til about... there.
  • 4:00 - 4:04
And then we are going to have pistons
  • 4:04 - 4:07
    right here.
  • 4:07 - 4:08
And then an observer block there.
  • 4:08 - 4:10
    And the idea... is that
  • 4:10 - 4:13
whenever the sugarcane grows up to 3
  • 4:13 - 4:16
the observer block will activate the piston,
  • 4:16 - 4:18
the piston will then break the sugarcane,
  • 4:18 - 4:20
launch it forward at this wall,
  • 4:20 - 4:22
which is why I put this wall here.
  • 4:22 - 4:24
A lot of people may have assumed that this
  • 4:24 - 4:26
    was just for design purposes
  • 4:26 - 4:28
but no no no! This was
  • 4:28 - 4:29
    for functionality.
  • 4:29 - 4:31
Because without this wall, the sugarcane
  • 4:31 - 4:33
would go flying into the waterfall
  • 4:33 - 4:35
and the hoppers would never retrieve them.
  • 4:35 - 4:37
    So, anyways, without further ado
  • 4:37 - 4:39
let's go ahead and get started here.
  • 4:39 - 4:41
Uh, we're gonna just place the pistons first.
  • 4:41 - 4:44
    Very easy part [laugh].
  • 4:44 - 4:46
Uh, and I'm already over here, so why not?
  • 4:46 - 4:48
So we've got them all laid out.
  • 4:48 - 4:49
And like I said, this is gonna be
  • 4:49 - 4:51
    almost too easy.
  • 4:51 - 4:53
    It's an extremely easy farm.
  • 4:53 - 4:54
    VERY easy.
  • 4:54 - 4:55
    Very efficient, though.
  • 4:55 - 4:57
Uh but we're just gonna start by doing that.
  • 4:57 - 5:00
And the observer blocks are pretty cool.
  • 5:00 - 5:02
They just go... that way. So.
  • 5:02 - 5:04
Whichever way you need the update,
  • 5:04 - 5:06
you just need to be facing that way,
  • 5:06 - 5:07
    and place it down.
  • 5:07 - 5:11
So, basically, if I were to place a block here
  • 5:11 - 5:12
    it's not gonna do anything.
  • 5:12 - 5:14
But if I did on the other side... it would.
  • 5:14 - 5:16
So, I have a good way of showing that off
  • 5:16 - 5:18
    here in just a second.
  • 5:18 - 5:19
So, we're gonna place all those.
  • 5:19 - 5:22
And, uh, then we're going to get this
  • 5:22 - 5:24
redstone and just place it down on here.
  • 5:24 - 5:26
This redstone's gonna allow these pistons
  • 5:26 - 5:28
    to activate, because it's powering
  • 5:28 - 5:29
    this block, which is then
  • 5:29 - 5:30
    powering the pistons.
  • 5:30 - 5:32
Most of you are like... duh.
  • 5:32 - 5:34
    This is extremely easy [laughter].
  • 5:34 - 5:35
But some of you may not.
  • 5:35 - 5:37
    So I'm explaining it.
  • 5:37 - 5:39
Plus! I like looking like I know stuff.
  • 5:39 - 5:41
Uh, but alright. So let's give this a try.
  • 5:41 - 5:44
If this face sees a block -
  • 5:44 - 5:46
that's the way you've gotta remember it -
  • 5:46 - 5:49
if the face sees a block, then it updates.
  • 5:49 - 5:50
    That's how it works.
  • 5:50 - 5:52
So as you can kinda see, is,
  • 5:52 - 5:54
the moment a sugarcane block hits that,
  • 5:54 - 5:56
is the moment it's gonna update it.
  • 5:57 - 5:59
So the piston will automatically break up
  • 5:59 - 6:00
    the sugarcane.
  • 6:00 - 6:02
So, before I get on to placing the water,
  • 6:02 - 6:04
I'm gonna go ahead and place the hoppers,
  • 6:04 - 6:05
just because it's a lot easier.
  • 6:05 - 6:07
I just need to find the center,
  • 6:07 - 6:08
so we're gonna do it about here.
  • 6:08 - 6:11
And I'm gonna all the way 'til about there.
  • 6:11 - 6:13
We're gonna place the chest right out
  • 6:13 - 6:15
there, and then just have the hoppers all
  • 6:15 - 6:17
kind of pointing in towards that.
  • 6:17 - 6:19
Now, I don't have sugarcane right here,
  • 6:19 - 6:22
obviously, like I said, but I'm sure
  • 6:22 - 6:23
sugarcane is bound to fall over here
  • 6:23 - 6:25
so we're just gonna place it there anyways.
  • 6:26 - 6:28
And as I'm doing this, I'm realizing just
  • 6:28 - 6:31
how fast this is, and like how easy this is.
  • 6:32 - 6:34
This is definitely not an entire
  • 6:34 - 6:35
    episode's worth [laughter].
  • 6:35 - 6:36
So I'm so sorry if today's episode
  • 6:36 - 6:37
    is very short.
  • 6:37 - 6:39
Uh, I didn't plan anything else, though
  • 6:39 - 6:40
    so that's sad.
  • 6:40 - 6:42
But yeah! So now we have the sugarcane
  • 6:42 - 6:44
er, not sugarcane, we have the, uh
  • 6:44 - 6:46
blocks placed. So if I just start throwing
  • 6:46 - 6:49
some sugarcane in, that'll all go to the chest.
  • 6:49 - 6:51
Which, as you guys know, that's how
  • 6:51 - 6:52
    hoppers work, of course.
  • 6:52 - 6:54
Let's go ahead and walk around...
  • 6:54 - 6:55
    or... do that.
  • 6:55 - 6:57
And, uh, I guess we're not in flying mode
  • 6:57 - 6:59
so I can't quite fly out of that situation.
  • 6:59 - 7:01
And, by the way, this is not complete.
  • 7:01 - 7:03
    This is landscaping templates [laughter].
  • 7:03 - 7:05
I'm just trying to get an idea of where
  • 7:05 - 7:07
    we're gonna take the mountain.
  • 7:07 - 7:09
But let's go ahead and check the chest.
  • 7:09 - 7:10
    There it is!
  • 7:10 - 7:11
    We've also got some cobblestone.
  • 7:11 - 7:13
So I need 7 sugarcane, just to kinda
  • 7:13 - 7:14
    get this thing started
  • 7:14 - 7:15
    so we're gonna grab that.
  • 7:15 - 7:17
Uh, but I'm gonna go ahead and get started
  • 7:17 - 7:19
    on placing the water.
  • 7:19 - 7:21
Just because I need to practice
  • 7:21 - 7:24
a little bit, to see exactly how we're
  • 7:24 - 7:25
    gonna need it.
  • 7:25 - 7:26
    Because
  • 7:26 - 7:28
If I place a water source here, it might
  • 7:28 - 7:30
still make the sugarcane go forward.
  • 7:30 - 7:31
So I've just got a little bit of tampering
  • 7:31 - 7:34
to do, uh, to see how it's gonna work.
  • 7:34 - 7:36
But anyways, I'll go ahead and do that,
  • 7:36 - 7:37
and then I'll catch you guys in
  • 7:37 - 7:38
    just a minute.
  • 7:39 - 7:41
That is lookin' pretty good, now that
  • 7:41 - 7:42
    we've got a waterfall there.
  • 7:42 - 7:44
I actually really like the way that looks.
  • 7:44 - 7:46
It just needs a little bit more leaves
  • 7:46 - 7:49
I think. Just like, a little bit, just to
  • 7:49 - 7:50
    balance the area off. But.
  • 7:50 - 7:52
Maybe we could put like plants hanging
  • 7:52 - 7:53
    down from up here.
  • 7:53 - 7:54
    Like right there, or something.
  • 7:54 - 7:55
    I don't know.
  • 7:55 - 7:57
We'll find out something to do with that area.
  • 7:57 - 7:59
But anyways, the water has been placed.
  • 7:59 - 8:01
Now what I ended up doing is...
  • 8:01 - 8:02
    - oh, I wonder if we could go straight
  • 8:02 - 8:04
through the window... we can't, oh!
  • 8:04 - 8:05
    Well, there we go.
  • 8:05 - 8:06
I cheated a little bit, though.
  • 8:06 - 8:07
    I used a firework [laugh].
  • 8:07 - 8:09
    And almost died, at that!
  • 8:09 - 8:11
But, uh, anyways, let's go ahead and
  • 8:11 - 8:12
    drop down here.
  • 8:12 - 8:13
What I did, you guys saw,
  • 8:13 - 8:14
    I put a source block...
  • 8:14 - 8:15
    here.
  • 8:15 - 8:18
But I also ended up putting one right
  • 8:18 - 8:20
next to it - although it's kinda not visible.
  • 8:20 - 8:22
    You see the water's running.
  • 8:22 - 8:25
You might very barely, like, can't even
  • 8:25 - 8:27
really see it, but you can kinda tell
  • 8:27 - 8:28
    the water's running right there.
  • 8:28 - 8:31
Basically, I did that, to where there
  • 8:31 - 8:33
was two sources, that way... whenever
  • 8:33 - 8:35
the sugarcane were to fall here
  • 8:35 - 8:37
    it wouldn't just automatically start
  • 8:37 - 8:39
falling and flowing off into the water.
  • 8:39 - 8:41
Now that may not fix it.
  • 8:41 - 8:42
That may work, it may not.
  • 8:42 - 8:45
I know I'm bound to lose a few sugarcane
  • 8:45 - 8:46
    to the waterfall eventually.
  • 8:46 - 8:48
But that's fine. This is gonna be
  • 8:48 - 8:50
automatic - I'm not really worried about
  • 8:50 - 8:51
    losing any.
  • 8:51 - 8:52
But anyways, let's go ahead and place
  • 8:52 - 8:53
    these down.
  • 8:53 - 8:56
And, what' I'm gonna do, just for
  • 8:56 - 8:59
example's sake, is... break my knees.
  • 8:59 - 9:00
    Just like that [laugh].
  • 9:00 - 9:01
We're gonna come up here and
  • 9:01 - 9:03
take a peek at it. We're gonna climb all
  • 9:03 - 9:06
the way up here and, uh, and basically
  • 9:06 - 9:07
    just look down here.
  • 9:07 - 9:09
I'm gonna turn the tick speed up.
  • 9:10 - 9:11
    Just for this example.
  • 9:11 - 9:13
    Just to see it work.
  • 9:13 - 9:15
Now, yes this is gonna give me sugarcane
  • 9:15 - 9:17
    that grows a lot faster.
  • 9:17 - 9:18
But this is just for example.
  • 9:18 - 9:21
And now, this is like forever anyways,
  • 9:21 - 9:22
and I'll be getting infinite amounts of
  • 9:22 - 9:25
sugarcane. It's kinda cheating already [laughter].
  • 9:25 - 9:27
But what I'm gonna do is just turn it up
  • 9:27 - 9:28
    using this command, so...
  • 9:28 - 9:31
    gamerule randomtickspeed 300
  • 9:31 - 9:32
    Just for example.
  • 9:33 - 9:34
So let's go ahead and do that.
  • 9:34 - 9:36
And you'll see, it might get loud.
  • 9:36 - 9:38
I might need to do 3000, actually,
  • 9:38 - 9:39
'cause this isn't going that fast,
  • 9:39 - 9:40
now that I think about it.
  • 9:40 - 9:42
Is it even able to gro- ohp! There it goes.
  • 9:42 - 9:44
Okay, so as soon as you start to see 'em
  • 9:44 - 9:48
hitting the third, then it'll automa- yup!
  • 9:48 - 9:49
There it goes. You can see, so
  • 9:49 - 9:51
one of them hit the third position
  • 9:51 - 9:53
so all of 'em are getting hit.
  • 9:53 - 9:55
And then they fall down there
  • 9:55 - 9:57
and you can see there's a sugarcane
  • 9:57 - 9:58
    on the side.
  • 9:58 - 9:59
I'll just have to put some hoppers there
  • 9:59 - 10:01
but, you can see they all fall down on
  • 10:01 - 10:02
    the hoppers.
  • 10:02 - 10:05
Let's crank this up to 3000
  • 10:05 - 10:07
and you'll see it goin' like crazy.
  • 10:07 - 10:09
So that way they're always fallin' down.
  • 10:09 - 10:11
And if we come over here and take a
  • 10:11 - 10:14
peek, you'll see that none of it is really
  • 10:14 - 10:16
    - and now I'm in water mode [laughter].
  • 10:16 - 10:17
    Or swimming mode -
  • 10:17 - 10:19
none of 'em are falling down here.
  • 10:19 - 10:20
And you can barely see it when you
  • 10:20 - 10:23
kind of go off into the distance, you can
  • 10:23 - 10:25
very, very slightly see it. Like, if you're
  • 10:25 - 10:28
zoomed in. You can kinda see them falling.
  • 10:28 - 10:30
Well, not really in this case.
  • 10:30 - 10:31
Maybe it's not working 'cause we're
  • 10:31 - 10:33
so far away. But. That's what I like
  • 10:33 - 10:35
about it, is that it's not that visible.
  • 10:35 - 10:36
So, it's always gonna be running,
  • 10:36 - 10:38
we're always gonna have sugarcane growing,
  • 10:38 - 10:40
and always just, you know, be
  • 10:40 - 10:41
    working for us.
  • 10:41 - 10:42
And by the way, if you didn't know,
  • 10:42 - 10:45
randomtickspeed is naturally set to 3.
  • Not Synced
So, if you ever change that, you can
  • Not Synced
always just set it back to 3 for the default.
  • Not Synced
Which, I forget to do sometimes.
  • Not Synced
Which you guys pointed out, last episode,
  • Not Synced
    grass was growing like CRAZY.
  • Not Synced
So, sorry about that, I just
  • Not Synced
    forgot to change it.
  • Not Synced
    Um, but anyways, yeah
  • Not Synced
so let's see what that generated
  • Not Synced
    just for example's sake.
  • Not Synced
So you can see, because of that,
  • Not Synced
    - and yes it was set to go really quickly -
  • Not Synced
I got 62 here. So you can see
  • Not Synced
it's always gonna be filling this up.
  • Not Synced
And we can use that to make paper
  • Not Synced
    for fireworks.
  • Not Synced
    So that's gonna be fantastic.
  • Not Synced
    Now sugarcane isn't that important
  • Not Synced
but, um, yeah, I just wanted to add it.
  • Not Synced
    Because why not? Right?
  • Not Synced
I mean you could fill this up with
  • Not Synced
just water, if you like, but why not
  • Not Synced
make it a little bit functional?
  • Not Synced
Um, but yeah, so I've got a few of
  • Not Synced
    these hoppers to add. Actually,
  • Not Synced
you know what? Why not just go
  • Not Synced
ahead and do it, 'cause I did it on
  • Not Synced
    that side.
  • Not Synced
So, we're gonna break this block,
  • Not Synced
hopefully not die 'cause we're under water.
  • Not Synced
Um. Probably won't, there we go.
  • Not Synced
And I'm just gonna, apparently, throw
  • Not Synced
    all these extra sugarcanes...
  • Not Synced
Actually I'm probably just gonna throw all
  • Not Synced
those away, since technically I cheated by
  • Not Synced
changing the, uh, tick speed. But yeah.
  • Not Synced
So just like that we have a functional
  • Not Synced
sugarcane farm. Not really that much
  • Not Synced
redstone involved, I'll admit. Yeah, none
  • Not Synced
at all, in fact, I mean... maybe just a line of it.
  • Not Synced
    Uh, but! Still cool, nonetheless.
  • Not Synced
So if you wanna use that design, you can.
  • Not Synced
Uh, but anyways, I am finished a lot earlier
  • Not Synced
than I thought I'd be. so I'm gonna see
  • Not Synced
what else I can do for the remainder of
  • Not Synced
the episode. And, uh, I'll see you guys
  • Not Synced
    whenever I've discovered that [laughter].
  • Not Synced
Alright, time is definitely not a problem
  • Not Synced
at the moment, we are not really that far
  • Not Synced
along in the episode, and we haven't
  • Not Synced
really done that much. So! What we're
  • Not Synced
gonna do, is do a little landscaping.
  • Not Synced
I'm gonna teach you guys how to do that.
  • Not Synced
We're gonna pretty much work on this area.
  • Not Synced
I just started coming up with an idea
  • Not Synced
about how I'd like to incorporate this
  • Not Synced
lower area with the cabin. And I started
  • Not Synced
thinking... it'd be really cool if we use
  • Not Synced
this area as kind of like a, uh, a campfire area.
  • Not Synced
A place to just maybe fish and just chill
  • Not Synced
and relax. Kind of like a backyard. Almost.
  • Not Synced
Or at least one part of a backyard.
  • Not Synced
And I just I really like the idea of having
  • Not Synced
higher level land and then just, a little
  • Not Synced
cliff and a pathway going up
  • Not Synced
    to meet this area.
  • Not Synced
So we're not gonna do all of it or
  • Not Synced
    anything like that, because
  • Not Synced
I don't have [laughter] that much time.
  • Not Synced
But I am gonna show you guys just with
  • Not Synced
this section of land here, about here
  • Not Synced
to here, and then I'm gonna show you
  • Not Synced
guys kinda exactly how I do this.
  • Not Synced
And like, how you can create your own
  • Not Synced
    custom landscapes.
  • Not Synced
So, the first thing we're gonna do is just
  • Not Synced
grab some stone here, and kinda
  • Not Synced
    manipulate the land.
  • Not Synced
    It's somewhat like this.
  • Not Synced
In the last episode, you guys saw,
  • Not Synced
I ended it off with a solid surface and
  • Not Synced
we started this episode with this.
  • Not Synced
So it's definitely a lot better looking [laughter].
  • Not Synced
Uh, so basically the first thing you're
  • Not Synced
gonna want to do is just carve the land.
  • Not Synced
    Like... simply carve it.
  • Not Synced
And keep in mind there's gonna be a
  • Not Synced
pathway around here, so truth be told,
  • Not Synced
we can tear down some of it.
  • Not Synced
And the way I'd like it to kinda curve out
  • Not Synced
is to kinda come out and in like that.
  • Not Synced
But again, I'm not working on this area
  • Not Synced
    on this side.
  • Not Synced
    I'm doing all of this.
  • Not Synced
So, we're just gonna kinda carve the land.
  • Not Synced
And, uh, I have it about 3 blocks thickness
  • Not Synced
so that we are able to carve it.
  • Not Synced
Uh. Now this takes a lot of stone, but usually
  • Not Synced
you get it back, because you are kind of
  • Not Synced
    - what's the word -
  • Not Synced
    sculpting! In a way.
  • Not Synced
So, uh, yeah, that's basically it.
  • Not Synced
Just carve the land out, and kinda get a,
  • Not Synced
    like, get a flow going.
  • Not Synced
It's... it's really about just placing
  • Not Synced
    random blocks, truth be told.
  • Not Synced
There's really no strategy to it.
  • Not Synced
    It's just about getting comfortable
  • Not Synced
with, uh, you know, building in a
  • Not Synced
certain way, and all that kinda stuff.
  • Not Synced
And just kind of getting a shape that
  • Not Synced
    you'd like to keep.
  • Not Synced
There is no real way to teach how to
  • Not Synced
landscape, because it is just random. [laughter]
  • Not Synced
So, I'm just kind of breaking and placing.
  • Not Synced
You can kinda see this is already starting
  • Not Synced
    to smooth out.
  • Not Synced
But that's actually not something I want,
  • Not Synced
so what I'm gonna do is... kind of bring
  • Not Synced
this area up a bit more.
  • Not Synced
And kind of scratch everything I just did
  • Not Synced
    up here.
  • Not Synced
Just because I'd like it to be a bit more
  • Not Synced
    sharp than just round.
  • Not Synced
So we're just gonna do that, and then
  • Not Synced
it's gonna kind start to fall into place
  • Not Synced
    once we start placing dirt.
  • Not Synced
But I think this is a good enough
  • Not Synced
    shape for now.
  • Not Synced
So, the next thing you're gonna want to do,
  • Not Synced
once you've kind of developed the shape
  • Not Synced
    - actually, let's break down that -
  • Not Synced
uh, once you've developed the shape,
  • Not Synced
you're gonna want to grab some dirt.
  • Not Synced
And then, obviously grass and whatnot.
  • Not Synced
So, let's grab the, uh, grass, and what
  • Not Synced
    you're gonna do
  • Not Synced
    - and this is something GoodTimesWithScar
  • Not Synced
always actually does - is, uh, kind of make an
  • Not Synced
overhang out of the dirt and the grass on
  • Not Synced
the top, and just mix it in.
  • Not Synced
    So, kinda do this.
  • Not Synced
And like, lower it in some cases, and
  • Not Synced
    just kinda play with it.
  • Not Synced
It's a very, very weird process, but once
  • Not Synced
you master it, you can make any landscape
  • Not Synced
    you want.
  • Not Synced
So we're just gonna kinda do that.
  • Not Synced
And in some places I'm gonna mix it
  • Not Synced
into the land, and just kind of, you know,
  • Not Synced
    get a flow going. [laughter]
  • Not Synced
That seems to be the, uh, catchphrase of the, uh, day.
  • Not Synced
We're just gonna do about that.
  • Not Synced
And then you know, you can, uh,
  • Not Synced
raise it up and lower it and do all that
  • Not Synced
    kind of stuff.
  • Not Synced
Let's see about where we're at.
  • Not Synced
Yeah. So you'll notice some of these areas
  • Not Synced
are like, you know, specifically hanging over.
  • Not Synced
    That's exactly what we want.
  • Not Synced
And you also kinda want to make it so that
  • Not Synced
some of them are a little bit deeper
  • Not Synced
    than just one.
  • Not Synced
So just kinda doing all that kind of stuff.
  • Not Synced
And I'm gonna actually make an overhang
  • Not Synced
out of that - maybe bring it down one though.
  • Not Synced
Just to kinda get it going.
  • Not Synced
And it looks very, very rough right now.
  • Not Synced
But don't worry, it's gonna look a lot better
  • Not Synced
once we start placing the grass.
  • Not Synced
But, let's find a way up here.
  • Not Synced
And then just simply start placing grass.
  • Not Synced
    Like, it's seriously that simple.
  • Not Synced
You're just gonna place it on top
  • Not Synced
    of every block.
  • Not Synced
So, all the dirt that we just placed,
  • Not Synced
we're just gonna go along and do
  • Not Synced
    that same thing.
  • Not Synced
And now, we're a little too, you know high up.
  • Not Synced
So we're just gonna build this land up
  • Not Synced
eventually, but for now we're just working
  • Not Synced
on the uh, you know, facade of the whole thing.
  • Not Synced
So let's kind of give it a one layer, uh, background.
  • Not Synced
Like a one layer width background.
  • Not Synced
Just to kind of have some support for it
  • Not Synced
    as we're building it.
  • Not Synced
So, we've kind of done that.
  • Not Synced
    And what you're gonna do,
  • Not Synced
is in some places, you know, raise it up
  • Not Synced
and all that kind of stuff.
  • Not Synced
And as you kind of expand that way,
  • Not Synced
you're just gonna raise the land,
  • Not Synced
do all that kind of stuff.
  • Not Synced
Uh, and there's different ways to blend it in
  • Not Synced
    once you've done that.
  • Not Synced
I'm actually gonna bring that one block down
  • Not Synced
    I think.
  • Not Synced
That way we can kind of have a nice little edge.
  • Not Synced
So now you can see it's actually starting
  • Not Synced
to look a lot more like a basic landscape.
  • Not Synced
And that's exactly what we want -
  • Not Synced
I'm gonna add that there -
  • Not Synced
and just kind of blend it, right?
  • Not Synced
So that's essentially what you're wanting
  • Not Synced
to start with, and then after that,
  • Not Synced
all you gotta do is just get, like, cobblestone
  • Not Synced
and just kind of like, break it in. [laugh]
  • Not Synced
And make it look like the whole cliff
  • Not Synced
    is like a rubble.
  • Not Synced
So, basically doing texturing, and all
  • Not Synced
    that kind of stuff.
  • Not Synced
You can really get a very cool effect out of it.
  • Not Synced
Uh, and then once you add in the things
  • Not Synced
like ferns, and tall grass, it starts
  • Not Synced
    to look AMAZING.
  • Not Synced
So yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and kind of
  • Not Synced
    retexture everything.
  • Not Synced
    We're gonna use andesite
  • Not Synced
    and cobblestone for that.
  • Not Synced
Uh, but I'm gonna kinda get this all done
  • Not Synced
and I'll show you guys the somewhat
  • Not Synced
    end product.
  • Not Synced
Alright, so I've just picked up some ferns.
  • Not Synced
That's about the last thing we really have to do.
  • Not Synced
Uh, but there is some stuff that I forgot
  • Not Synced
that I'm gonna go ahead and show you guys
  • Not Synced
before we end off the episode.
  • Not Synced
So let's fly straight through here -
  • Not Synced
    there we go -
  • Not Synced
    that was pretty cool! [laugh]
  • Not Synced
But yeah, so it's looking very, uh,
  • Not Synced
    overgrown at the moment,
  • Not Synced
    which I do not like.
  • Not Synced
And I want to kinda redo some of it.
  • Not Synced
But, I just wanted to show you guys
  • Not Synced
a few things that I, like, kinda forgot to show.
  • Not Synced
Let's just get rid of that.
  • Not Synced
So one of the biggest things is that
  • Not Synced
to really make it look messy, but like,
  • Not Synced
    still a cliff.
  • Not Synced
And you'll see the main different between
  • Not Synced
    this and this.
  • Not Synced
This is very flat, and the reason why is
  • Not Synced
    because it doesn't have the
  • Not Synced
    half slabs and the stairs.
  • Not Synced
As well as, like, rubble. The texturing.
  • Not Synced
So it just, kinda looks like a standard,
  • Not Synced
you know, clean, uh, not gonna fall down
  • Not Synced
anytime soon, you know, not man-made landscape.
  • Not Synced
And that's fine, but this, in my opinion,
  • Not Synced
    just looks better.
  • Not Synced
It fits the area, and it actually makes you
  • Not Synced
feel like you're a part of something,
  • Not Synced
    something someone built.
  • Not Synced
So basically using the stairs to kind of
  • Not Synced
crack the stone really helps, in my opinion.
  • Not Synced
And then, of course, adding leaves is
  • Not Synced
    always a good thing.
  • Not Synced
Uhm, but then you're just gonna want to
  • Not Synced
get some of the ferns and just kind of
  • Not Synced
    place them along the place.
  • Not Synced
Just, you know, like normal, natural growth.
  • Not Synced
That way it looks like it's, you know,
  • Not Synced
    being taken care of.
  • Not Synced
    And like, it's active, and
  • Not Synced
    just a cool little place.
  • Not Synced
And obviously tall grass is something you
  • Not Synced
    want to add as well,
  • Not Synced
I just don't have any of that.
  • Not Synced
Let's go and grab some of this, since all of this
  • Not Synced
is eventually going to be covered anyways.
  • Not Synced
Uh, but the biggest thing I forgot to show -
  • Not Synced
after I place some of these down,
  • Not Synced
I'll kind of give you guys the idea -
  • Not Synced
so let's go over here and grab
  • Not Synced
    some of this course dirt.
  • Not Synced
So you'll notice right off the bat:
  • Not Synced
one of the things about this landscape
  • Not Synced
    that's not really that great
  • Not Synced
is that the dirt kind of makes it look
  • Not Synced
    too similar amongst the [inaudible].
  • Not Synced
    It doesn't look natural.
  • Not Synced
If you add in some texturing to the dirt
  • Not Synced
with course dirt, it actually does a very
  • Not Synced
    good job at fixing that.
  • Not Synced
So you'll kind of see, I'm like splashing it around.
  • Not Synced
So on these parts where there's one and
  • Not Synced
another one right beside each other,
  • Not Synced
you can totally make that look a lot better
  • Not Synced
just by placing in some course dirt.
  • Not Synced
And then another thing is like,
  • Not Synced
    on the top -
  • Not Synced
let me kinda go up there, using
  • Not Synced
our little stair system here, and just
  • Not Synced
hopefully not break our legs jumping over -
  • Not Synced
if we kind of start to replace
  • Not Synced
some of the grass as well,
  • Not Synced
kind of like what we were doing
  • Not Synced
    in the mesa biome,
  • Not Synced
then it also kinda blends it all together well.
  • Not Synced
Uh, and plus this is kinda the style of the entire area.
  • Not Synced
You know, uh, what's it called?
  • Not Synced
    Podzel, that's right.
  • Not Synced
And then the course dirt's kinda
  • Not Synced
    splashed around everywhere.
  • Not Synced
So if you do that, it'll look pretty good.
  • Not Synced
Uh, but just kinda blend that together,
  • Not Synced
and then you will have a pretty cool
  • Not Synced
    looking landscape!
  • Not Synced
And then combine trees with that?
  • Not Synced
And you're all set and ready to go [laugh].
  • Not Synced
So what I'm gonna do is give you guys one final view
  • Not Synced
    of the landscape we created.
  • Not Synced
    Now this is extremely rough,
  • Not Synced
but this gives you an idea.
  • Not Synced
And some of you are gonna say,
  • Not Synced
    "oh that's too messy"
  • Not Synced
"it's not really that good looking"
  • Not Synced
Uh, you know what, there's one
  • Not Synced
    thing I do wanna add.
  • Not Synced
Let's add a rock, like right here.
  • Not Synced
Well. No, let's tuck it into the corner.
  • Not Synced
I'm gonna put a rock, just, right here
  • Not Synced
    into the ground.
  • Not Synced
I think that could look pretty cool.
  • Not Synced
So we're just gonna do that.
  • Not Synced
    Break that away.
  • Not Synced
    And then do... that.
  • Not Synced
    Nope! That!
  • Not Synced
    Nope. C'mon.
  • Not Synced
    There we go [laugh].
  • Not Synced
So doing those is something I learned
  • Not Synced
    from GoodTimesWithScar as well.
  • Not Synced
Doing that really helps dress up the area
  • Not Synced
and blend it all together and bring it
  • Not Synced
    down to the ground.
  • Not Synced
And just make it look whole.
  • Not Synced
But yeah, some of you are gonna say
  • Not Synced
    "this looks ugly" [laugh]
  • Not Synced
    And it does right now,
  • Not Synced
but once I kinda add some trees
  • Not Synced
and make the land look a little bit
  • Not Synced
better up there, it'll look a lot better.
  • Not Synced
But this just gives you an idea
  • Not Synced
of, uh, what you can do with custom landscaping.
  • Not Synced
    And how to do it.
  • Not Synced
So let's kinda, get a good view
  • Not Synced
from a little far away -
  • Not Synced
and not, you know, die in the process -
  • Not Synced
yeah, so once that's kind of all carried out
  • Not Synced
    and the landscaping is better,
  • Not Synced
    and there's custom trees,
  • Not Synced
    that'll look a lot better,
  • Not Synced
    because it'll blend with that.
  • Not Synced
In my opinion it'll just work.
  • Not Synced
But it looks very rough right now.
  • Not Synced
But it's just a tutorial, so [laugh]
  • Not Synced
    don't worry about that.
  • Not Synced
Anyways guys, that's really gonna do it for today.
  • Not Synced
I don't really have much time to do anything else.
  • Not Synced
Uh, I hope you guys have enjoyed this episode.
  • Not Synced
If you have, make sure you leave a thumbs up,
  • Not Synced
and let me know your thoughts on my
  • Not Synced
    landscaping abilities.
  • Not Synced
Maybe good, maybe bad, I don't know?
  • Not Synced
I just want some feedback [laugh].
  • Not Synced
Anyways guys, thank you so much for watching.
  • Not Synced
I will see you in the next one.
  • Not Synced
