How to TEDx: Discover the TEDTalk in your speaker
-
0:00 - 0:04[How to discover the TEDx talk
inside your speaker] -
0:06 - 0:08I'm "Z" Holly, curator of TEDxUSC.
-
0:08 - 0:12Hey, I have my theme,
I have my speakers, -
0:12 - 0:15how do I find the best talk
from within each of the speakers? -
0:15 - 0:16Well let's find out.
-
0:16 - 0:21Everybody's got a story inside,
and the key is to find that story. -
0:21 - 0:26They come to you with interesting ideas
and to them It's the ideas that they have, -
0:26 - 0:28you know, they carry them
and they think "here you go". -
0:28 - 0:33But, I think the main thing here is
to find other interesting things -
0:33 - 0:35that they are not aware of
-
0:35 - 0:39and make them very comfortable
to become storytellers. -
0:39 - 0:41Why and how come...
-
0:41 - 0:43Coach
-
0:43 - 0:47The key to coaching, I think,
is to get that story out. -
0:47 - 0:51Best ever talk you have delivered before,
-
0:51 - 0:55that's also different
than the TEDx or the TED talk. -
0:55 - 0:58So please come and let's have
-
0:58 - 1:02a short video TED talk
watching session together -
1:02 - 1:05and then we start from there.
-
1:05 - 1:07Focus.
-
1:07 - 1:09...That the old story from Buddhism.
-
1:09 - 1:16So there's a story where
there is an elephant -
1:16 - 1:21and then blind people touch it
and everyone tells different stories. -
1:21 - 1:25The talk is like a journey
from the river to another one -
1:25 - 1:28and there are ten stones
between the two rivers -
1:28 - 1:31and you have to find those stones.
-
1:31 - 1:36And those stones could be
like a tweet or a phrase or a title. -
1:36 - 1:40And while the talk moves,
I try to get this attention -
1:40 - 1:43and focus more and more on this talk.
-
1:43 - 1:47And how they do this
"Ah! See how he says, -
1:47 - 1:49see how he got
response from the audience?" -
1:49 - 1:54So I put him in a mindset
to accept the curation. -
1:54 - 1:56Reveal!
-
1:56 - 2:00Leave two things. First, a message,
a clear message. -
2:00 - 2:03And secondly, use emotions.
-
2:03 - 2:06The interesting part is
to connect with the people, -
2:06 - 2:09to make them feel you care,
to make them feel -
2:09 - 2:14that it's actually taking them
to a higher level. -
2:14 - 2:17These people, this whole process
is about making them -
2:17 - 2:20the best of what they can.
-
2:20 - 2:23I'm looking for, you know,
ideas that are worth sharing, -
2:23 - 2:29worth spreading, and then a speaker
who has the will -
2:29 - 2:32to share this idea in our timeframe.
-
2:32 - 2:34Everything that a speaker
brings to the stage -
2:34 - 2:37should be kind of a bonus
for the audience -
2:37 - 2:39a bonus for their talk.
-
2:39 - 2:42Without these great speakers,
you don't have the event.
