THE GAP by Ira Glass

I think it was at springtime 2012, when I came across David Shiyang Lius lovely piece of work about Ira Glass. It was the most inspiring and motivating video, I have ever seen in my life. I watched it over and over again, listened to Ira Glass' voice and told myself, that I am not the only person who is constantly disappointed about the gap between ones taste and ones skills. Later on in 2012 I decided to do an own filmed version of Iras interview - use my own language to tell his message. It took me about a year from concept to upload.

I made it for myself and for anybody who is in doubt with his/her creative career. I also think that Ira Glass' message isn't only limited to the creative industry. It can be applied to everyone who starts out in a new environment and is willing to improve.

Nikto ľuďom, ktorí začínajú nepovie...

A ani mne to nikto nepovedal.

Že všetci čo robíme kreatívnu prácu, sa do nej púštame z toho dôvodu, že máme vkus.

Ale existuje tu medzera...

Prvých pár rokov vyrábate veci a to,
čo robíte, nie je dosť dobré.

Nie je to super.

Chce to byť dobré, má to ambíciu,
ale nie je to "dosť dobré".

Ale váš vkus, vec ktorá vás dostala
do hry, ten je stále skvelý.

Je dosť dobrý na to, aby ste zistili, že
čo vyrábate, je tak trochu sklamanie.

Viete čo myslím?

Veľa ľudí sa cez túto fázu nikdy nedostane.
A skončia.

A to, čo by som vám chcel z hĺbky
svojho srdca povedať je...

Každý koho poznám a robí niečo kreatívne,
si prešiel niekoľkými rokmi, keď robili niečo,

o čom sami vedeli že je slabé.

Nemalo to v sebe to "kúzlo",
ktoré sme tam chceli mať.

A týmto si prešiel každý. No a keď si touto fázou prechádzate vy, práve teraz, musíte vedieť, že...

Je to úplne normálne...

A najdôležitejšia vec, ktorú musíte robiť,
je robiť kopec práce. Kopu práce.

Dajte si deadline, aby ste každý týždeň alebo
mesiac niečo dokončili. Jeden príbeh.

Pretože jedine keď budete robiť
kopec práce, tá medzera sa zaplní.

A vaša práca bude rovnako
dobrá, ako vaše ambície.

Chvíľku to trvá, aj vám to bude
chvíľu trvať, to je normálne, ale...

Proste sa cez to musíte PRE-BO-JO-VAŤ.
