Chile se Moviliza - Punta Arenas

We are in Punta Arena´s City, the principal city of the Magallanes´ district. It is with 120.000 inhabitants

and the average temperature is 9,7°[C] and 2,8°[C] in its maximum and minimun respectively.

The distance with others cities of the same country and its extreme weather have had

a very special behaviour in it´s inhabitants and themselves called "special"

and it can be recognize in any part of the world.

when you were born in this land, you can understand that you live in a different place, for instance the isolation

and the Magallanico´s culture, the nice and hard work people who are extremely brave

When we have problems, we are together and that is very important to highlight because without that is not possible to get ahead

This is an isolate and extreme region where it done sovereignty

and we always are under the centralism

it´s always been an autonomous spirit...an revolutionary spirit.

We would like to be an independent republic, but unfortunately we are not federal in our country

that is the reason why "the centralism" must open to get ahead

The Magallanes and Chilean Antartic´s district

have 132,033.5 square kilometres in the continental zone

Punta Arenas and the Magallanes´ district are the only area

where it can get oil and gas.

The principal national company in Magallanes

whose owner is the government of Chile is called "ENAP"

The main costumers of oil and gas in this region are, by one hand

the Magallanes´ population and the other hand

the foreign company called " Methanex"

ENAP sales this resource to the families for their normal consume.

to an daily average of 700,000 cubic metres

Methanex receives daily most than 1,600,000 cubic metres

of oil and it pay less than Magellanic´ families.

The hydrocarbon sold to Methanex

in its most is converter in methanol and later

sold to be used as aeroplanes´ fuel

In the case of Magellanic´s inhabitants

gas is a very important resource

due to low temperatures throughout the year.

Who have the control of ENAP and allow this prices´ discrimination

is the Chilean state. In the year 1971, the Government of popular unit

put in the network of underground pipe

and made an strategy change in the energetic matrix of the district.

All the productive activity including the electric supply

were dependent from natural gas and oil

In return during the military dictatorship

it was proceed to privatize and deliver to private companies as "Gasco"

the distribution and "ENAP" was forbidden about distribution and marketing.

Today "Gasco" is part of "CGE" (general company of electricity) which is the owner of 57% about listed stock.

and it is controlled by families of Perez Cruz, Marin - Correa and Hornauer.
