An Introduction to Gladio B - James Corbett on Breaking The Set
-
Not SyncedAbby Martin: I have briefly touched upon upon the shady tactics
-
Not Syncedused by the governments to foment public support for war.
-
Not SyncedOne such program by the US was put in place during the Cold War
-
Not Synced-- called Operation Gladio -- the aim of which
-
Not Syncedwas to have paramilitary organizations stay behind in the Eastern Bloc
-
Not Syncedto continue the destabilization of regional powers.
-
Not SyncedAnd although the program was finally acknowledged in 2006
-
Not Syncedand is said to be long over, some allege that it never really ended:
-
Not Syncedinstead, this clandestine operation simply morphed
to fit the needs of the War on Terror. -
Not SyncedHere to help me break down this very important and convoluted subject
-
Not Syncedis James Corbett, independent journalist and host of The Corbett Report.
-
Not SyncedThanks for coming on, James.
-
Not SyncedJames Corbett: Thank you for having me, Abby.
-
Not SyncedAbby: So, what did Operation Gladio consist of,
-
Not Syncedand how far-reaching was the program?
-
Not SyncedJames: Well, you were recently, on the program, talking about
-
Not Syncedthe top five conspiracies that turned out to be true;
-
Not Syncedand I think Operation Gladio has to rank up there among them.
-
Not Synced"Gladio" is the code name for a clandestine operation that,
as you indicate, was set up by NATO in conjunction with the CIA -
Not Syncedin the wake of World War II, as the Cold War started to develop.
-
Not SyncedAnd the official cover of this program was that it was designed
-
Not Syncedas a stay-behind program to fund, train, equip, supply, and otherwise
-
Not Syncedfacilitate groups to be ready in the case of a Soviet invasion of Europe.
-
Not SyncedAnd if that were to happen, basically, these groups would be able to resist
-
Not Syncedthe Soviet occupation forces while NATO prepared some sort of military response.
-
Not SyncedThat was, at least, the official cover for what was happening;
-
Not Syncedbut ultimately, what resulted from this was, over the course
-
Not Syncedof the five decades of the Cold War, these funds and arms and equipment
-
Not Syncedwere going to paramilitary groups and ultranationalist groups
-
Not Syncedthat were basically against... hard-line anti-Communists.
-
Not SyncedAnd this resulted in a number of different operations, events,
-
Not Syncedand outrages that ultimately were blamed on Communists
-
Not Syncedas a way of trying to, basically, cripple the political Left in Europe
-
Not Syncedduring that period.
-
Not SyncedAnd perhaps the best-known of those outrages and atrocities
-
Not Syncedwas the 1980 Bologna Bombing, which killed 85 people and wounded 200 more.
-
Not SyncedThat was, again, directly linked to this Operation Gladio.
-
Not SyncedIt was eventually exposed in the early 1990s in the Italian Parliament,
-
Not Syncedand eventually that resulted in an outcry that was supposedly going to kick off
-
Not Synceda European Parliamentary investigation that never actually occurred.
-
Not SyncedBut we've been led to believe, in a lot of the English-language media
-
Not Syncedand in the Western world, that this was specifically focused on Europe,
-
Not Syncedand it specifically started and ended with the Cold War.
-
Not SyncedBut in fact, as more information continues to come out about it,
-
Not Syncedwe start to see that the field of operations of Operation Gladio
-
Not Syncedreally is global, and that it continues to this current day.
-
Not SyncedAbby: Well, let's talk about that transition. I mean, very shocking:
-
Not SyncedI didn't even really understand the extent of Operation Gladio
-
Not Synceduntil I was watching your series. I recommend everyone to check that out.
-
Not SyncedReally thorough series, just basically outlining everything
-
Not Syncedthat this operation was.
-
Not SyncedAs you said, I mean, it's a decades-long operation that consisted of
-
Not Syncedfalse-flag terror attacks, death, the funding of ultranationalist groups
-
Not Syncedto foment terrorism.
-
Not SyncedLet's talk about the transition into Gladio B.
-
Not SyncedYou said that there's evidence showing that this is still happening today,
-
Not Syncedand it's actually morphed into something else.
-
Not SyncedWhat is that, and what evidence is there to back that up?
-
Not SyncedJames: Well, as you say, I had a video series that I conducted earlier this year
-
Not Syncedwith FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds. And as people may or may not know,
-
Not Syncedshe has been referred to as "the most gagged woman in the United States"
-
Not Syncedby the ACLU and other organizations for having the state secrets privilege
-
Not Syncedapplied to her case, to classify all sorts of information about
-
Not Syncedwhat she was working on, at her time in the FBI, in the translation department
-
Not Syncedat the Washington Field Office.
-
Not SyncedAnd basically, the information that she had indicated that there was a change
-
Not Syncedthat occurred in this Operation Gladio, that occurred in the mid-1990s.
-
Not SyncedAnd she was specifically focused on the Turkish field of operations.
-
Not SyncedAnd this is, again, documented and on the record --
-
Not Syncedalthough little known and little talked about in the Western media --
-
Not Syncedbut Turkey was, in fact, one of the first places where Operation Gladio eventuated,
-
Not Syncedand was, in fact, one of the central places -- as a geostrategic window,
-
Not Syncedthe bridge, the so-called bridge between Europe and the Middle East,
-
Not Syncedit's always had a geostrategic location and, as such,
-
Not Syncedwas one of the jewels in the crown of the Operation Gladio program.
-
Not SyncedBut in the mid-1990s, Operation Gladio started to shift
-
Not Syncedfrom that funding of paramilitaries and ultranationalist groups
-
Not Synced-- in Turkey, specifically -- towards an operation
-
Not Syncedmore like what we saw in Afghanistan in the 1980s:
-
Not Syncedwhere the US, specifically, was funding, and helping, and training,
-
Not Syncedand arming the mujahideen in their fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan.
-
Not SyncedAnd this became the model for what's known as Gladio B.
-
Not SyncedGladio B is the term that -- Sibel Edmonds indicates --
-
Not Syncedis the actual FBI file that they have on this,
-
Not Syncedthe information on this in the FBI.
-
Not SyncedBut there is a different name for whatever office in the Pentagon
-
Not Syncedactually works with NATO on this operation. That's still classified:
-
Not Syncedwe don't know that.
-
Not SyncedBut we do know that it's referred to as Gladio B by the FBI.
-
Not SyncedAnd basically, this is the cooperation of NATO and US
-
Not Synced-- including high-ranking US State Department officials and others
-
Not Synced-- with Islamic terrorists, basically -- in the perpetuation
-
Not Syncedof a strategy of tension which can be used as a type of weapon
-
Not Syncedagainst â specifically, in Central Asia and the Caucasus region,
-
Not Syncedwhich is an exceptionally important part of the global chessboard,
-
Not Syncedas Zbigniew Brzezinski talks about.
-
Not SyncedAnd in fact, in his 1997 book "The Grand Chessboard,"
-
Not Syncedhe identified Central Asia as the absolute key for...
-
Not Syncedanyone who wants to have world dominance in this day and age
-
Not Syncedneeds to control Central Asia.
-
Not SyncedAnd that's where we find a lot of these operations, now, are being based,
-
Not Syncedwith US and NATO officials cooperating with Islamic terrorists
-
Not Syncedin order to foment a type of destabilization
-
Not Syncedthat is aimed, ultimately, against rivals Russia and China.
-
Not SyncedAbby: Right, very fascinating. I remember in the video series
-
Not Syncedyou were talking about, right before 9/11 -- as in 1997-2001 -- I mean,
-
Not Syncedwe're talking about al-Zawahiri, alleged top al-Qaeda officials being flown out,
-
Not Syncedfostered by NATO, propagated by NATO and also the CIA
-
Not Syncedand covert forces in the area.
-
Not SyncedYou said that this is actually going on still, to this day. What are they doing?
-
Not SyncedAnd explain, really, how this manifested into perpetuating
-
Not Syncedwhat we're seeing play off across that region of the world right now.
-
Not SyncedJames: Well, you're exactly right about that.
-
Not SyncedAnd again, this comes directly from Sibel Edmonds,
-
Not Syncedwho was working directly with the information from the FBI,
-
Not Syncedthat Ayman al-Zawahiri was meeting with top-level US officials
-
Not Syncedin Baku, Azerbaijan in 1997 to 2001 -- in that range.
-
Not SyncedAnd this is important because, for people who don't know,
-
Not SyncedAyman al-Zawahiri was, of course, Osama Bin Laden's right-hand man,
-
Not Syncedand is now the nominal head of al-Qaeda itself.
-
Not SyncedSo the fact that he had such high-level contacts
-
Not Syncedfor so many years in the heart of the US State Department
-
Not Syncedand with high-ranking officials is an exceptionally big story,
-
Not Syncedfor obvious reasons.
-
Not SyncedAnd the fact that this is still ongoing, I think, is certainly viewable
-
Not Syncedin the context of what's happening in that Central Asia/Caucasus region,
-
Not Syncedwith countries of such importance geostrategically,
-
Not Syncedlike Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan,
-
Not Syncedwhich are in that Caspian Sea basin and that corridor
-
Not Syncedwhere a lot of the pipelines for those oil resources
-
Not Syncedare being hard-wired right now.
-
Not SyncedAbby: And I wanted to jump in there really, really quickly, James,
-
Not Syncedbecause we have about a minute left. But of course,
-
Not SyncedSibel talks about drug-running in this operation as well:
-
Not Syncedthe heroin from Afghanistan.
-
Not SyncedBut really quickly, I mean, why haven'tmore of these allegations
-
Not Syncedbeen covered in, even, independent media, James?
-
Not SyncedJames: Unfortunately, there is a total wall of silence on this.
-
Not SyncedAnd part of the reason, I think, the independent media hasn't picked up on it
-
Not Syncedis because there is so much to talk about, and there are so many connections
-
Not Syncedthat a lot of people just simply haven't even heard about before.
-
Not SyncedSo it is an area of the globe that a lot of people aren't familiar with,
-
Not Syncedand it takes a lot of coaching to get people familiar with
-
Not Syncedsome of the players and names and dates. So just...
-
Not Syncedthat's one of the reasons why it hasn't been featured in the independent media.
-
Not SyncedAnd obviously, the mainstream media, unfortunately, as we know,
-
Not Syncedis controlled on these types of subjects, and won't go near
-
Not Syncedthis type of blockbuster information.
-
Not SyncedAbby: Well, now that you've kind of outlined the preliminary
-
Not Syncedbase of knowledge about it, we'll get you on again to break it more down.
-
Not SyncedThank you so much. James Corbett, "Corbett Report:"
-
Not Syncedeveryone check out this series, "Operation Gladio [B]."
-
Not SyncedJames: Thank you.
