Accessibility @ Mozilla: Intro

An introduction to Mozilla's accessibility mission and a
collection of interviews taken at CSUN 2012.

The Internet totally changed my life.

Because all of a sudden it didn't matter that I was blind.

It didn't matter that I was listening to

a synthetic screen reader read out my e-mail.

The whole issue of disability just doesn't come up.

- The web has become such an important and

revolutionary thing for people with disabilities.

It really is enabling and empowering in ways

that never existed before.

- What the internet and access technology,

what it has allowed me to do is

in seconds like research any subject and

find answers to anything that I need

and it helps me with my personal life

well as with my business.

- If you think of privacy, for instance, or security,

that's something that affects everyone.

When you're talking about accessibility

it affects maybe up to %20 of the population or so,

and there's a lot of diversity in accessibility.

- Making the web accessible includes everybody.

If you can't see,

you could have the text read to you the computer.

If you have motor disabilities, you can

use alternative input methods to navigate through the page.

It's just for everybody.

- To me, Firefox, especially with the release model

and the agility that that provides,

It has the potential to really offer that cutting edge

to other users that really benefit from accessibility.

- It's really important to have a major organization

such as Mozilla to have everybody on the same page.

And the same mantra whenever you are adding a new feature,

whenever you are making a change to your product,

accessibility needs to be part of the design.

- We are seeing more and more mainstream devices come out

that are accessible out of the box,

or will be accessible very soon.

And we are planning to do this in Boot to Gecko as well.

- What we're doing is really facilitating this revolution

and really making it more accessible

and more available to people with disabilities.

- Yeah, I use Firefox all the time because I could enlarge the fonts.

And have the web page set up in the only the way that I can read it.

and it ignores other web pages

so the ideas is about put result there you can changed it

then everything is perfect for me.
