The Business of English - Episode 4 - Australia Network

  • 0:18 - 0:21
    Has everybody got
    a copy of the agenda?
  • 0:21 - 0:22
    Yes, thank you.
  • 0:22 - 0:24
    Would you mind
    taking minutes, John?
  • 0:24 - 0:25
    Oh, not at all.
  • 0:25 - 0:29
    Good.
    Well, then let's get started.
  • 0:29 - 0:34
First of all, thank you everyone
    for attending at short notice.
  • 0:34 - 0:38
As you know, the objective of this meeting of
the Capital Works Committee is to discuss
  • 0:38 - 0:43
a proposal for some urgent building
    work at our Southside plant.
  • 0:43 - 0:47
Now, as we've got to reach a decision
    which may involve spending,
  • 0:47 - 0:49
    we'll run it as
    a formal meeting.
  • 0:49 - 0:52
    Now, you've read the proposal,
    so without further ado,
  • 0:52 - 0:55
I'd like to open it up
    for discussion.
  • 0:55 - 0:59
Or perhaps if we can start with you, Tan
    – what's your view?
  • 0:59 - 1:05
Well, I'm not convinced that the work
is as urgent as this report suggests,
  • 1:05 - 1:07
    so perhaps instead
we should be thinking of the…
  • 1:07 - 1:13
So, to sum up – I think we are all aware that
some urgent work does need to be done,
  • 1:13 - 1:18
and we will need to work on a
longer term plan for a major refit.
  • 1:18 - 1:23
Well, if there's no more discussion
    – we'll put it to a vote.
  • 1:23 - 1:28
    We're recommending that tenders
be called for the urgent work needed.
  • 1:28 - 1:30
    All those in favour?
  • 1:30 - 1:32
    All those against?
  • 1:32 - 1:36
    Then that's agreed…
    Any other business?
  • 1:36 - 1:39
    Then we'll close the meeting.
    Thank you everyone.
  • 1:39 - 1:44
    The next meeting will be
in two weeks, at the same time…
