AAC Apps for iPad and their Flexibility

  • 0:08 - 0:10
A lot of the augmentative alternative communication apps available
  • 0:10 - 0:15
for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch are really flexible
  • 0:15 - 0:19
My son who's 8 and has autism is verbal
  • 0:19 - 0:25
    so he doesn't necessarily need
an alternative an alternative communication app to help him speak
  • 0:25 - 0:28
but pulling words from him can be like pulling teeth.
  • 0:28 - 0:34
He can't answer simple questions like, "who did you see at school today?"
  • 0:34 - 0:38
To demonstrate the flexibility of one of the apps
  • 0:38 - 0:43
    - the app that you are about to see is called My Talk Mobile.
  • 0:43 - 0:47
What we've done is we took his class photo here
  • 0:47 - 0:54
scanned in each of the individual photos into the application so that when I ask him
  • 0:54 - 1:01
who he saw today you can actually touch one of the children or one of the teachers
  • 1:01 - 1:05
and can show me. So it kind of reinforces that.
  • 1:05 - 1:09
    Let's see it in action.
  • 1:09 - 1:14
