Italia Federico Pistono (whole)

  • 0:04 - 0:12
my name is federico pistono and i am the italian manager of the zeitgeist movement.
  • 0:12 - 0:20
in the last few weeks, i dedicated myself to the international organization of the movement
  • 0:20 - 0:23
and i became one of the global managers.
  • 0:23 - 0:26
there are some projects that i dedicated to particularly like:
  • 0:26 - 0:35
the complete design of the international site but also other projects like the newsletter
  • 0:35 - 0:40
and the new site of the international blog that we hope
  • 0:40 - 0:47
it will become the only source of information of the movement.
  • 0:47 - 0:55
so i'm working on the movement on a large scale of possibilities.
  • 0:55 - 1:02
Personally,i've allways been interesed since i was a child on descovering things
  • 1:02 - 1:08
, what makes something true or false,
  • 1:08 - 1:15
this thing has a meaning or how i can explain this to myself.
  • 1:15 - 1:22
Going on this thing became a passion because i discovered there was a method
  • 1:22 - 1:25
to acheive knowledge and to know how "world works".
  • 1:25 - 1:32
And this was the scientific method so i dedicated myself on studiing science and its applications.
  • 1:32 - 1:37
    when i was 16 i won a scolarship (researchgrant)for an international course
  • 1:37 - 1:48
in a comunity that had 200 boys and girls from 80 countries of the whole world called "United World College".
  • 1:48 - 1:55
it was an experience that transformed me, because it gave me the possibility to
  • 1:55 - 1:59
expand my knowledge about other people and their different cultures
  • 1:59 - 2:07
and with basic values for civilized living that was: english part
  • 2:19 - 2:29
All this things were our statement ant it was what made me grow and became part of TZM.
  • 2:29 - 2:35
I made several activism in the past, i created my own non profit organization,
  • 2:35 - 2:45
4-5 years ago it "lived" 2 and a half years, organizing conferences on enveroinment, health, anti-mafia
  • 2:45 - 2:48
and similar activities at a local level.
  • 2:48 - 2:55
It eventualy transformed when i entered in a more close contact with internet
  • 2:55 - 3:07
and i discovered hundreds documentaries that i watched one after the other allmost like "devoring" them. I eat them at breakfast, lunch, dinner, at night.
  • 3:07 - 3:12
One of this movies was Zeitgeist and Zeitgeist Addendum.
  • 3:12 - 3:17
When i watched Zeitgeist Addendum i saw there was the possibility to create this comunity and the efforts
  • 3:17 - 3:29
were grouped in persons that said: ok let's change something, but not going in the streets
  • 3:29 - 3:34
screaming and shouting that"heeey here nothing works is al a bih sh...t.
  • 3:34 - 3:40
but try to find solutions to the problems you found.
  • 3:40 - 3:45
So i said WOW this is a chance to change the world,
  • 3:45 - 3:49
not only say it would be nice if it will change.
  • 3:49 - 3:54
OK let's apply the scientific method, let's think what do i have to do to change the world
  • 3:54 - 3:56
    is it possible?
  • 3:56 - 4:04
Ovviusly you can not be that "naif" to think you can change the world in 2 years with a movie
  • 4:04 - 4:18
but you can start changin a part, there is a degree between black and white,
  • 4:18 - 4:27
where you askyourself: am i getting allways closer or am i going completely in another direction?
  • 4:27 - 4:36
And the basic conclusion was that an economy based on profit and the continuous consumption of goods
  • 4:36 - 4:40
with a planet that has finite resources is not sustainable.
  • 4:40 - 4:49
So that is a completely wrong direction. It would be better to take the right one the better one.
  • 4:49 - 4:53
then the discussion is not about if we have to take or not this direction but
  • 4:53 - 4:56
    how we arrive to it.
  • 4:56 - 5:00
This has to be the subject of our discussion and the start of it.
  • 5:00 - 5:11
I belive that if one manages to make the very first step in recognising that the wrong direction,
  • 5:11 - 5:16
and searches another one, at this point you can give a meaning to the discussion.
  • 5:16 - 5:23
Beacuse we spend a lot of time defending or attacking the monetary sistem,
  • 5:23 - 5:32
while i think we should simply define our target: sustainable living on the planet,
  • 5:32 - 5:42
and to avvoid suffering to billions of people from malnutrition, pollution and all
  • 5:42 - 5:46
    this problems easily solvable technicaly.
  • 5:46 - 5:54
You say ok this are the things we don't want how we can avoid them from happening
  • 5:54 - 5:59
This is the discussion we should have and it's what TZM tries to do.
  • 6:03 - 6:05
    English part and other stuff
  • 6:11 - 6:16
The italian chapter comes alive from mine personal idea.
  • 9:37 - 9:53
There wasn't anybody that presented itself to coordinate so i made a step forward
  • 9:53 - 10:03
So i opened the site being a programer, and waited to see what happens.
  • 10:03 - 10:15
i expected few persons like 5 10 50 maybe, nothing extraordinary, who knows.
  • 10:15 - 10:28
but in less than 2 months hundred of people inscribed and saw google statistycs going exponentialy so i said ok is becoing something
  • 10:28 - 10:31
    .....
  • 10:31 - 10:36
So when we started to have this growth i thinked it would be better to organize the comunity
  • 11:00 - 11:12
so that who entered it, could have clear information on how he/she could help, and how the comunity could grow even more.
  • 11:12 - 11:30
Imediatly i realized that the only way the project could work was giving to people the power of expriming their own creativity.
  • 11:30 - 11:39
Beacuse if it would have remained a personal project where i tried to have an expression of my ego,
  • 11:39 - 11:44
it would had been firstly wrong, secondly fallimentary beacuse it wouldn't had last for long,
  • 11:44 - 11:57
and the last reason but maybe the most important one is that i have no fuc....ing ego,
  • 11:57 - 12:02
and i think those who have an ego is for an insecurity problem
  • 12:02 - 12:13
I'm very sure of me and of what i do, i put myself in discussion but i'm not afraid beacuse i know i have the basis to do it.
  • 12:13 - 12:21
So because of this, as soon as somebody came with new ideas i was very excited
  • 12:21 - 12:27
"come come, do you want to manage a new project, all the doors are open".
  • 12:27 - 12:33
In fact there was a small problem at the begibibg in the italian chapter
  • 12:33 - 12:37
because everybody saw only the zeitgeist movie and not addendum,
  • 12:37 - 12:41
so there was the religion subject that continued to come out.
  • 12:41 - 12:46
talking with some of the more activ members that understood more the situation
  • 12:46 - 12:55
we decided to make a small movie where we explained that TZM is not against religion.
  • 12:55 - 13:02
Is a fact that is has to be very clear beacuse a lot of people had this preconcept and "closed their doors" to us.
  • 13:02 - 13:07
So we said ok let's see what we have in common
  • 13:07 - 13:14
we say we have to treat each other like we are a family, that we have to respect nature
  • 13:14 - 13:18
and the other beeings and try to live like brothers and sisters.
  • 13:18 - 13:29
This is Jesus Christ so christians come come , if you want to realize your values on Earth come to TZM,
  • 13:29 - 13:36
we open our doors to you.
  • 13:36 - 13:44
So the real christians values, or the gold rule of all religions like budhism, indhuism eventualy
  • 13:44 - 13:52
is simply common sense that does not come from a god but from our inteligence
  • 13:52 - 13:58
because we think, we live in a habitat, there is the natural selection,
  • 13:58 - 14:12
and so is positive for a comunity to treat each other good, so this is what wetry to do with the movement,
  • 14:12 - 14:25
being friends beacuse if we see this like a task or a sacrifice or something that stresses us, then we've failed.
  • 14:25 - 14:36
The purpose of the movement is to create a sustainable society not only technologicaly by building passive houses
  • 14:36 - 14:41
that consume less energy than the one they produce, everything is recicled,
  • 14:41 - 14:45
we use only natural resources etc.
  • 14:45 - 14:54
That is part of the idea of the movement but is mainly a bio-psycho-social sustainibility.
  • 14:54 - 15:00
And the psicho-social part is important as the biological and ecological one
  • 15:00 - 15:09
because if we are violent , we don't have empaty, we don't have dialog and we don't respect each other
  • 15:09 - 15:15
we are not sustainable socialy and humanly.
  • 15:15 - 15:23
So how can you build a society with people that hate each other? i can't immagine that.
  • 15:23 - 15:34
In TZM i can speak about the italian chapter where we try to promote empaty friendship but also enveroinment sustainibility
  • 15:34 - 15:40
because they have to stay toghether.
  • 15:40 - 15:49
If this two things get separated you have the technology curve going up the culture remaining straight
  • 15:49 - 15:59
and bigger is this gap bigger are the problem we have i the society.
  • 16:02 - 16:07
    ENGLISH PART
  • 16:14 - 16:17
One of the things i've done in my life
  • 16:17 - 16:28
is living very much in contact with persons very far from me using internet
  • 16:28 - 16:37
that puts us in instant contact from Australia New Zeeland America, we are in contact and
  • 16:37 - 16:41
we have different cultures that make a "merge".
  • 16:41 - 16:52
It didn't took me too much to realize that the concept of politics or democracy, aristocracy
  • 16:52 - 16:59
autarchy or whatever "chy" were obsolete
  • 16:59 - 17:09
and were concept that greeks allready had explored using the instrument they had to manage the public "res" the pubblic thing
  • 17:09 - 17:24
So we've said, excuse us this things were alleady in depth explored by greeks 4000 years ago
  • 17:24 - 17:30
is it possible that in 4000 years we can't manage to find something new,
  • 17:30 - 17:33
a better way to talk and to take a decision together?
  • 17:33 - 17:39
And the answer is yes we found it: the scientific method and instruments like internet, wikipedia,
  • 17:39 - 17:42
    forums.
  • 17:42 - 17:52
So WOW who knows if there are working experiments, where they managed to take decisions in the most efficient way possible
  • 17:52 - 18:01
where you know you can't acheive perfection, you know that whatever method you use
  • 18:01 - 18:08
you could never make everybody happy.
  • 18:08 - 18:18
This will never happen but what you can do is watch this the other way:
  • 18:18 - 18:25
everybody is sad, you took the worst decission.
  • 18:25 - 18:31
So between this two situations you can try getting closer to this direction.
  • 18:31 - 18:39
And i saw all the instruments that variocomunities used but what's the one that takes you closer
  • 18:39 - 18:41
    in the most efficient way?
  • 18:41 - 18:51
I saw that the method of decission making or decission arival in wikipedia seems to be the best.
  • 18:51 - 18:58
As i mentioned is not perfect but is the one that allows us to go in this direction.
  • 18:58 - 19:07
The method consists in opening a page where one writes:Ok this is my proposal, mine.
  • 19:07 - 19:16
Underneath others can say :I agree or I don't agree but they have to explain why.
  • 19:16 - 19:25
And when they explain they don't have to say beacuse i like it beacuse you are ugly or bad
  • 19:25 - 19:34
because today is full monn tomorow not, but they have to explain with scientific proves why yes or no.
  • 19:34 - 19:41
What works in wikipedia is that there is no democracy and no aristocracy but simply
  • 19:41 - 19:45
the scientific evidence that is being valued and is self evident.
  • 19:45 - 19:56
so if i write i agree another one i agree i agree , even if we are 100 is like being 0.
  • 19:56 - 20:04
On the other side if i say idon't agree because this situation was prooved by this comunity in
  • 20:04 - 20:14
this context similar to ours and they've failed beacuse of this reason, reasearc of Standfford University from 2006
  • 20:14 - 20:17
    that in this conditions etc.
  • 20:17 - 20:19
was prooved that this does not work
  • 20:19 - 20:35
even if they are only 2 that have the scientific proves they win not the 100 that said only yes.
  • 20:35 - 20:42
And this process of discussion using only the scientific evidence that you can present
  • 20:42 - 20:52
1:it eliminates the emotional part where you insult saying YOU ARE A BASTARD A STUPI I HATE YOU
  • 20:52 - 20:58
.... all this makes you lose the sense of what you are really speaking of
  • 20:58 - 21:05
because you enter in conflict and the discussion has no sense anymore.
  • 21:05 - 21:20
The science is whatever your beliefs are t doesn't matter you have to bring some evidence.
  • 21:20 - 21:34
And if i'm a good scientist, if i have a belife and you bring me evidence that i'm wrong, i have to say
  • 21:34 - 21:38
    WOW you're right, i wasn't.
  • 21:38 - 21:48
This is the only way i saw we can grow as individuals, beeing humile, admiting our own errors,
  • 21:48 - 21:56
but mostly is the only way to prevent all the power problems conected to empowering somebody.
  • 21:56 - 22:08
Beacuse for example in a rappresentative democracy tot. persons say this one rappresents us,
  • 22:08 - 22:21
and you have that person as a weak spot. Is like a chain made from many rings
  • 22:21 - 22:31
if one ring is weak all the rest is compromised. But if instead of the chain you have a net a mesh, even if there is a weak ring there are the
  • 22:31 - 22:41
other ones sorounding it and solving the problem.
  • 22:41 - 22:47
But if you have a piramidal structure this ring here "puffff" and all the rest falls down.
  • 22:47 - 22:58
So for the decissions ragarding all the comunity, decisions that are taken not this frequently,
  • 22:58 - 23:09
but only like 2 or 3 times a year, not banals things that can be decided very simlpy in workgroups
  • 23:09 - 23:29
But when instead a decision regards 500.000 subscribers and in a future we could be 5 bilions or 50 bilions
  • 23:29 - 23:37
At that point you can not say ok that rappresents 50.000 people you elect one
  • 23:37 - 23:45
and it rappresent 5 bilion people or 50 billion and then they speak one with the other.
  • 23:45 - 23:52
Well that is our actual system where you only corrupt that one and all the rest are fucked up.
  • 23:52 - 24:01
But if you say ok who has an idea, presents it with scientific proves no matter where it comes from
  • 24:01 - 24:09
if he is the global manager or the last arrived, what really matters is his ideas.
  • 24:09 - 24:19
Like we said in a lecture sometime ago with Peter Joseph and i agree, we have to pass from
  • 24:19 - 24:25
a society that elects persons to a society that elects ideas,
  • 24:25 - 24:30
Beacuse what matter are ideas. Persons are only the builders of the ideas but is the concept
  • 24:30 - 24:34
that has to be elected not the person.
  • 24:34 - 24:45
Otherwise you create all the retroactive problems like leader, authority figure, corruption etc.
  • 24:45 - 24:56
So we proved this structurein the italian chapter, it works, we are now trying it at an international level
  • 24:56 - 25:03
and it seems it works. I spoke about it at Europeean and international level in various meetings
  • 25:03 - 25:09
and who allready knows the wikipedia system say is very beautifull,
  • 25:09 - 25:16
while who doesn't say let me see it looks interesting.
  • 25:16 - 25:22
And when they realize they say WOW is not perfect but looks like a good idea to me.
  • 25:22 - 25:26
I think this is the direction to follow.
  • 25:30 - 25:34
    english part
  • 25:57 - 26:03
The political situation in Italy?!?..! Next question?
  • 26:03 - 26:13
The Polotical situation in Italy is such a disaster that usualy i avoid to speak about it
  • 26:13 - 26:18
or i speak for 3 days and get depressed.
  • 26:18 - 26:24
I will try to resume it like this in a few minutes if i'll manage to control my emotions:
  • 26:24 - 26:36
In the last 25 years the country was violented mentaly, psichologicaly, emotionly,
  • 26:36 - 26:43
fizicly from all directions in all the holes we have in our body,
  • 26:43 - 26:50
by a social-cultural-economical and political structure that makes people more stupid and imbecile
  • 26:50 - 26:54
    ignorant and vulgar.
  • 26:54 - 27:06
And this was made using mass media that promote an idea of a regim that was continuisly advertising
  • 27:06 - 27:09
more and more and this is not only about Berlusconi.
  • 27:09 - 27:15
He is only the top of the problem but there are also the soroundings.
  • 27:15 - 27:23
Everything that made possible that someone like Berlusconi came into power and stay there for 4 or 5 legislations
  • 27:23 - 27:31
There are 25 years since he has power and even if when he doesn't have it
  • 27:31 - 27:45
he is so involved that it doesn't matter. Infact the true italian power is the economic one like in
  • 27:45 - 27:52
other contries and it is maneged by the mafia that manages the governement.
  • 27:52 - 27:57
And this is not only my opinion but it was provedby Gian Antonio Stella
  • 27:57 - 28:02
or ... No wait i don't know if is Gian Antonio cut this part.
  • 28:02 - 28:06
It was proved by various writers that wrowte for example "La Casta"
  • 28:06 - 28:13
"Gomorra" , "Saviano", they have documented in a very detailed manner the inner structure
  • 28:13 - 28:24
of the italian state is intertwined with mafia and they are mainly the same thing.
  • 28:24 - 28:29
They made a pact 25 years ago when happened "the massacre of PIazza Fontana"
  • 28:29 - 28:36
they made explode persons and bodyguards got killed ,
  • 28:36 - 28:41
After they made this pact this agreement with the mafia
  • 28:41 - 28:45
in witch they said ok you don't make anymore terroristic attacks and we give you
  • 28:45 - 28:49
    the control of the country.
  • 28:49 - 28:59
And this happened , the mafia gave Berlusconi the possibilty to sent it's message to all
  • 28:59 - 29:04
the broadcasting stations, while Berlusconi was only the proxy the link,
  • 29:04 - 29:09
beacuse from there passed all the ecconomic powers of the country no matter if
  • 29:09 - 29:11
they were from the right the center or the left.
  • 29:11 - 29:21
At the end it was only about money, profit, money , profit translated in incinerators
  • 29:21 - 29:28
that burnedtrash instead of reciclyng it producing nanoparticles, concrete concrete concrete
  • 29:28 - 29:35
constructions even though we have a lot of dismissed construction sites, half buid ospitals,
  • 29:35 - 29:48
We keep building new buildings instead of restructuring the old ones.
  • 29:48 - 29:51
We speak about energetic efficiency but now we want to build nuclear centrals
  • 29:51 - 29:58
when 25 years ago with a refferendum we said we don't want nuclear energy.
  • 29:58 - 30:02
Now government says we make nuclear plants so we made anoher refferendum
  • 30:02 - 30:14
and 99.5 % of the population said NO but they keep saing "Well maybe next year we do it"
  • 30:14 - 30:16
    What are you talking about?????
  • 30:16 - 30:20
And they keep puting obstacles to the progress of the country.
  • 30:20 - 30:22
    Is so ridiculos.
  • 30:22 - 30:26
There is an italian sayng:"scrape of the barrel"
  • 30:26 - 30:30
immagine this big bottles with wine or water.
  • 30:30 - 30:40
when you drnked all the wine or the water of the barrel, in the bottom alcoolists
  • 30:40 - 30:49
take the spoon to scrape of the last drops of wine.
  • 30:49 - 30:56
Well scrape off the barrel is when you try to take the last drop but there is not anymore left.
  • 30:56 - 31:06
We are nor scrapeing the barrel. We have consumed all our fingers, we have destroyed the bottom of the barrel
  • 31:06 - 31:11
and we are scrapeing on the ground.
  • 31:11 - 31:16
We are out of our head , crazy is a disastrous situation.
  • 31:16 - 31:25
Is more and more ovvious that with the poilitical and social-economic system you can not change anything.
  • 31:25 - 31:31
a very interesting change is happening in Italy , and for what i know is unique in the world
  • 31:31 - 31:36
is called the 5 stars movement(Movimento stelle),
  • 31:36 - 31:51
It is a social movement similar to zeitgeist movement, that decided using the political structure, to take out money from politic
  • 31:51 - 32:07
They also say let's elect ideas and not persons. So who enters in an istitution with a hidden camera
  • 32:07 - 32:14
videorecords and after shows :look this is what they are hidding you!
  • 32:14 - 32:21
So complete transparency, enviroinmental sustainability, cycling lanes, fotovoltaic, water recycle....
  • 32:21 - 32:30
I see in them an optimum start for a transition to an resource based economy
  • 32:30 - 32:37
Many of the 5 stars movement even if they know what to do now, if you speak them about
  • 32:37 - 32:48
an RBE in future some can't understand well beacuse they belive in free market, etical profit
  • 32:48 - 32:53
even dough is absurd being ethical in a bussines on the free market.
  • 32:53 - 33:02
If there wouldn't be the competitivity problem , you could have an ethical profit,
  • 33:02 - 33:05
but you could not stay in the market beacuse to stay you don't have to be ethic but
  • 33:05 - 33:07
you have to think only at profit other wise they put you out of the bussiness.
  • 33:07 - 33:28
So they still have some steps to do but they are in the right direction.
  • 33:28 - 33:36
Infact we as TZM Italy don't say vote for them beacuse it would be a too extreme position
  • 33:36 - 33:47
but we try to cooperate with M5S we try to bring the ideas of an RBE in their discussions
  • 33:47 - 33:55
to have benefits when they will pass from 0.1% to now they are at 10%.
  • 33:55 - 34:01
It was the biggest growth in history and is all born from the net , their last campaign
  • 34:01 - 34:11
alltough they had 2 bilion euros given by the state to finance it,
  • 34:11 - 34:26
they said no we don't want that money, use it for pubblic things, rennovable energy for things tahat are useful.
  • 34:26 - 34:30
We make our campaign on the internet.
  • 34:30 - 34:40
They made the campaign it hole italy spending like 15.000 euro.
  • 34:40 - 34:52
Just for comparison the other group that obtain 9% spent 10 milion euros and them 15.000
  • 34:52 - 35:05
So they proved that you can take away money from politics that with ideas and working aon culture people starts to think
  • 35:05 - 35:08
and this can be done with internet.
  • 35:08 - 35:13
Too bad that here in italy proceed like this:
  • 35:13 - 35:17
They saw that people is not absolutely stupid but only if you make it stupid
  • 35:17 - 35:25
they tried to lock internet the only thing that takes complete control away from us.
  • 35:25 - 35:36
For 4 times in last 5 years they make a law to lock internet.
  • 35:36 - 35:44
This are the yes sites this are the no sites and so 4 times happened a sort of a revolution
  • 35:44 - 35:47
and the country said you are crazy.
  • 35:47 - 35:54
Italy is terrible. We have 46% of houses conected to broadband internet.
  • 35:54 - 36:13
We are the last in Europe after Portugal, Greece, and scandinavian countries that are at 85% 95% . In Estonia Finland France in Sweden is a constitutional right.
  • 36:13 - 36:16
You born and have the right of broadband internet acces.
  • Not Synced
In Italy altough is not a problem to pay for internet, it won't get to you, you don't have it.
  • Not Synced
The majority of small cityes in Italy doesn't have broadband internet access.
  • Not Synced
Beacuse there is Telecom Italia that has the monopoly, not a state one but private one,
  • Not Synced
that for profit destroied internaly the "bussiness" , sold everything to the Pirelli managed by the petrolhead Moratti,
  • Not Synced
petrolium=profit, yes is always the same
  • Not Synced
And so all the italian telephonic network managed by only 1 company for profit,
  • Not Synced
    but nobody can do nothing.
  • Not Synced
Is called "the last mile liberalization"
  • Not Synced
For example Rome, big city, you have broadband internet.
  • Not Synced
You ho 10 km outside here isn't anymore
  • Not Synced
You are in a village outside and say:" i want broadband internet"
  • Not Synced
The answer:For our competitional advantage , we don't have enuf person that in your area could pay for our services,
  • Not Synced
so there is no profit for us to bring you broadband internet.
  • Not Synced
So the way of thinking is not: we want to give people more culture, information and so education
  • Not Synced
using internet, the biggest thing ever happend in the hisyory of human kind,
  • Not Synced
But if we don't have a profit "SORRY FUCK YOU".
  • Not Synced
So what did we said 3 years ago when there was an auction for the "WiiMAX??"?
  • Not Synced
We said we don't need all the cables from their company. we use wiimax!!!
  • Not Synced
Wireless. You have a 10.000 euro antenna that "shots a 50 km range.
  • Not Synced
Fuck, we put wi max everywhere with 500 euro for person and buy the antena for everybody.
  • Not Synced
They made the auction, and companyes could not came to the auction.
  • Not Synced
The state could not buy the wii max and say "we liberalisate it".
  • Not Synced
Let's make a private auction instead, for private company that want to make profit.
  • Not Synced
It was bought it seems to me by a multibilionaire egiptian guy that has no interess in trasmitting.
  • Not Synced
Infact after 5 years there is no one that uses wii max.
  • Not Synced
The reason is that they didn't want people to use it.
  • Not Synced
i don't know what agreement did they do but in facts nobody uses it.
  • Not Synced
So eventualy in Italy what happens
  • Not Synced
politics is "unspeakable", there is M5S going in the right direction,
  • Not Synced
wewith TZM are working to change the cultural basement of the country and also to
