Encuentro de Video para el Cambio Latinoamérica y el Caribe

  • 0:00 - 0:02
    Let’s go!
  • 0:02 - 0:03
    Mexico city
  • 0:04 - 0:05
    July 2015
  • 0:09 - 0:12
It is important to create networks because it allow
  • 0:12 - 0:13
    us to learn from others
  • 0:13 - 0:16
In Latin America borders divide us,
  • 0:16 - 0:18
and we recognize that it’s as if these borders were
  • 0:18 - 0:20
    placed there almost by hand
  • 0:20 - 0:22
because we have so many things that unite
  • 0:22 - 0:23
    and join us.
  • 0:25 - 0:26
    Convening of Collectives
  • 0:26 - 0:28
From 15 countries in Latin America
  • 0:28 - 0:29
    and the Caribbean.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
In Latin America the tissue is something ancestral
  • 0:31 - 0:34
for many cultures and also for our own identity.
  • 0:34 - 0:36
It is the collective participation and
  • 0:36 - 0:39
above all, to be able to conciliate
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    several ideas and worldviews.
  • 0:42 - 0:43
    Community cinema
  • 0:43 - 0:45
    Free media, independent and alternative.
  • 0:45 - 0:46
    Video to denounce
  • 0:46 - 0:48
It’s sharing all that information from
  • 0:49 - 0:50
    one place to another
  • 0:50 - 0:52
    and that everybody realize
  • 0:52 - 0:54
that it is not just only a community
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    or an organization,
  • 0:55 - 0:58
but thousands and thousands of people
  • 0:58 - 1:01
    fighting to achieve something better.
  • 1:19 - 1:21
Here we brought together a very
  • 1:21 - 1:22
    interesting diversity
  • 1:22 - 1:24
    of experiences -community cinema,
  • 1:24 - 1:26
video for denouncing, video as an evidence
  • 1:26 - 1:28
All of this is our learning process,
  • 1:28 - 1:30
    our exchange process, our space
  • 1:30 - 1:32
    for building/growing knowledge.
  • 1:34 - 1:36
For us it is fundamental to work
  • 1:36 - 1:38
as a network to support the communities
  • 1:38 - 1:40
that are in resistance against mining
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    and petroleum extractive projects
  • 1:42 - 1:45
which are the common thread in Latin America
  • 1:46 - 1:48
In this moment it feels really important
  • 1:48 - 1:51
to build networks to share our practices,
  • 1:51 - 1:53
our strategies and also our productions.
  • 1:55 - 1:57
Is what gives us the strength as community
  • 1:57 - 2:00
and free media, to awaken the people
  • 2:00 - 2:02
who still live within the system.
  • 2:07 - 2:10
It has been very interesting to meet other people
  • 2:10 - 2:13
who are documenting the reality of their lives,
  • 2:13 - 2:15
    communicating it with other people
  • 2:15 - 2:17
    and helping others take control
  • 2:17 - 2:20
of the media and tell their own stories.
  • 2:21 - 2:23
The idea of a short film produced
  • 2:23 - 2:25
by a local organization in Argentina
  • 2:26 - 2:28
being presented here in Mexico or in Peru,
  • 2:28 - 2:31
seems to us a very important event
  • 2:31 - 2:34
for the strategy of thinking on a community cinema.
  • 3:01 - 3:03
The importance of working as a network
  • 3:03 - 3:05
    is a peace experience,
  • 3:05 - 3:07
a diverse peace that can be built
  • 3:07 - 3:10
among the youth, artistic or cultural movements
  • 3:10 - 3:12
    in Latin America.
  • 3:19 - 3:21
What we did here here is an important step
  • 3:21 - 3:24
for the articulation of free/independent media
  • 3:24 - 3:25
    networks in Latin America
  • 3:25 - 3:26
    and the Caribbean.
  • 3:27 - 3:29
These ties, at this point become important
  • 3:29 - 3:31
as the repression and the violence
  • 3:31 - 3:33
    coming from the governments
  • 3:33 - 3:36
are increasing and targeting our fights.
  • 3:36 - 3:37
    We have a common enemy,
  • 3:37 - 3:40
the transnational capital is beating us all.
  • 3:40 - 3:42
    So finding these people
  • 3:42 - 3:43
    is a way of saying
  • 3:43 - 3:46
“we are not alone, we are in this together.”
  • 3:48 - 3:49
    You share, you exchange
  • 3:49 - 3:51
and you also feel the support
  • 3:51 - 3:53
of a lot of people who are also
  • 3:53 - 3:56
performing acts of resistance in their communities.
  • 3:57 - 3:59
    Let’s keep growing our solidarity
  • 3:59 - 4:01
saying we are in this together
  • 4:01 - 4:03
and we will be until the end!
