Truth is Simple
-
0:01 - 0:08The realization of the Self
is a very simple thing in itself -
0:12 - 0:17What it is, in itself, is just simple and natural.
-
0:19 - 0:24What it is, is just simple and natural
-
0:26 - 0:28And I even wondered if there was a time
-
0:28 - 0:31when human beings were just like that,
-
0:31 - 0:38just in our natural state, but I don't know that.
-
0:38 - 0:43I felt, in those days, I want to share this
-
0:43 - 0:46because it is so simple, it's so simple.
-
0:46 - 0:49But in my own case,
-
0:49 - 0:54it took a little bit of scrubbing as well,
to arrive at that. -
1:03 - 1:10This is a kind of paradox, in a way,
because it is so simple, -
1:10 - 1:13but where we are coming from is so complex.
-
1:13 - 1:17As I said before, The Truth is simple,
-
1:17 - 1:21but the seeker of Truth is complex.
-
1:21 - 1:25And he has to get over himself.
-
1:25 - 1:28He cannot do anything for Truth.
-
1:28 - 1:31We cannot do anything for Truth.
We cannot help Truth. -
1:31 - 1:38It's total nonsense, arrogance and stupidity
to even think of that. -
1:38 - 1:43The basis of the entire universe
is that it emanates -
1:43 - 1:47and plays in the space of Truth.
-
1:47 - 1:53So no one can do anything for Truth.
-
1:53 - 2:00And the fact is that, we are Truth.
We are Truth. -
2:00 - 2:03But in order to make a search happen,
-
2:03 - 2:07we have to be under the spell of the untrue.
-
2:07 - 2:14Otherwise, there is no search.
Why would there be any search? -
2:14 - 2:19Just like now, we came to be convinced
that we are our name, -
2:19 - 2:25that we are our culture, that we are our race,
that we are our gender. -
2:25 - 2:36We believe that, so we don't have to question that.
-
2:36 - 2:41We just assume; nobody questions that.
-
2:41 - 2:45In the state of the Truth,
then it is completely natural. -
2:45 - 2:48You don't have to question that any more.
-
2:48 - 2:50But while we have the identity
-
2:50 - 2:54or the idea that we are persons and people,
-
2:54 - 2:57it is a very complex state of consciousness,
-
2:57 - 3:02it's very self-centred,
but self-centred in the psychological sense. -
3:02 - 3:07Meaning that, it is a kind of neurosis;
a complexity is there. -
3:07 - 3:09And we are not going to be happy.
-
3:09 - 3:13There is no one who,
not being aware of the pure Self, -
3:13 - 3:18can be in a state of equanimity
and unbroken happiness. -
3:18 - 3:21Our lives will be topsy-turvy.
We will experience that. -
3:21 - 3:24But for one who is aware of the Truth,
-
3:24 - 3:27and aware that they are the Truth,
-
3:27 - 3:33then the waves of the mind,
the waves of the vital force -
3:33 - 3:36cannot trouble them at all.
There is no trouble at all, -
3:36 - 3:39because they are not holding onto the mind,
-
3:39 - 3:42they are not holding onto any emotional state,
-
3:42 - 3:45they are not holding onto the body.
-
3:45 - 3:48Just like how they say the Ganga is flowing,
-
3:48 - 3:50but it is also constant.
-
3:50 - 3:56The waves are like, maybe, our thoughts.
-
3:56 - 4:02The changefulness that occurs
and arises in the body is like the waves, -
4:02 - 4:08but the Ganga itself, you can say, is untroubled.
-
4:08 - 4:10It is the same thing.
-
4:10 - 4:18So we don't need to study for years
to realize the Self. -
4:18 - 4:24And yet we do.
We don't need to study for years and years. -
4:24 - 4:30What are we studying? What are we practising?
-
4:30 - 4:33Sometimes, also, we are practising,
-
4:33 - 4:36and we still don't know what we're practising for.
-
4:36 - 4:38Sometimes we meditate,
-
4:38 - 4:41yet we don't know the aim
and object of meditation. -
4:41 - 4:44If we are meditating only to meditate,
-
4:44 - 4:48to enjoy a portion of time in a state of non-duality,
-
4:48 - 4:50meditation can offer us this.
-
4:50 - 4:53But as we have heard people say in satsang,
-
4:53 - 4:57'The minute I step away,
the minute my meditation is over, -
4:57 - 5:00the chaos of life and of the mind comes again'.
-
5:00 - 5:03So that cannot be the permanent state.
-
5:03 - 5:08Nothing that we acquire
will be the permanent state. -
5:08 - 5:11Only what we discover,
-
5:11 - 5:15which is independent of the personal wave,
-
5:15 - 5:20only that is stable by itself;
nobody can make it stable. -
5:20 - 5:26We can only discover that untouched essence.
-
5:26 - 5:32And when 'we' discover 'That', we are That!
-
5:32 - 5:34You cannot discover the Self
-
5:34 - 5:38and be a discoverer of the Self as a person.
-
5:38 - 5:45And this is why I say that
the self-inquiry is my 'piranha question', -
5:45 - 5:52because as we are exploring
and introspecting this question, -
5:52 - 5:56the questioner and the questioning
are being swallowed up -
5:56 - 5:59by the very inquiry itself.
-
6:01 - 6:04[music]
-
6:04 - 6:11'Nothing that you acquire
can be the permanent state ... ' -
6:13 - 6:20' ... only what you discover.'
