ليه الشغب؟ . ?Why Riot
-
0:14 - 0:19Why "riot"?
-
0:19 - 0:22In Alexandria, five days before
the second anniversary of the revolution -
0:22 - 0:25the friends and relatives of the martyrs waited
for justice to be done -
0:25 - 0:28in the retrials of those who had kiiled
demonstrators. -
0:28 - 0:31The retrials and justice for the martyrs were amongst the
most important promises -
0:31 - 0:34made by Morsi to the revolution after he won elections.
-
0:34 - 0:35On January 19, take two:
-
0:35 - 0:38the accused officers were all acquitted,
-
0:38 - 0:42acquittals for the assassins and murderers.
-
0:42 - 0:46For two years now, the regime has been
listening and ignoring. -
0:46 - 0:50"We won't forget Tahrir you sons of bitches,
-
0:50 - 1:01for you the revolution was a disaster."
-
1:01 - 1:08The regime doesn't want retribution or justice to be carried out.
-
1:08 - 1:10But we will make it happen:
-
1:10 - 1:15retribution and justice.
-
1:15 - 1:17This year nobody went out to celebrate
the revolution. -
1:17 - 1:21Instead we went out to finish what we started
in January 2011. -
1:21 - 1:24Jika!
-
1:24 - 1:27High School student,
-
1:27 - 1:30Murderered by the police,
-
1:30 - 1:31Shot with bullets
-
1:31 - 1:35In his eye and head.
-
1:35 - 1:37Jika!
-
1:37 - 1:40There's no food.
-
1:40 - 1:42Muslim Brothers, liars all!
-
1:42 - 1:46You tricked us in the name of religion!
-
1:46 - 1:49My son,
my darling son... -
1:49 - 1:52
-
1:52 - 1:54We came out because we had no other choice
-
1:54 - 1:57in dealing with a regime that
imprisons, tortures and murders our revolution -
1:57 - 2:01while honoring and protecting
those who oppress, kill and exploit. -
2:01 - 2:03Why are prices skyrocketing day after day
while our wages stay the same? -
2:03 - 2:07"I want bread to eat..."
-
2:07 - 2:10Why has no offical been held accountable
for all the railway accidents? -
2:10 - 2:11Why is the army stealing people's land
-
2:11 - 2:13and killing them in Qursaya and elsewhere?
-
2:13 - 2:16My brother raised his hands, why did they shoot him?
-
2:16 - 2:20[The Martyr Muhammad Abd Al-Mawgud's brother]
I want to know right now, -
2:20 - 2:24how can the president of this country
order them to attack the people! -
2:24 - 2:26Why are Safwat al-Sherif and Isma'il al-Sha'ir
scott-free? -
2:26 - 2:29Why do the security forces target children,
-
2:29 - 2:31lock them up and torture them?
-
2:31 - 2:34It means that there's no justice
under this kind of regime. -
2:34 - 2:36People didn't just go out to Tahrir Square.
-
2:36 - 2:37The provinces were also raging:
-
2:37 - 2:39
-
2:39 - 2:43
-
2:43 - 2:47
-
2:47 - 2:52Violence breeds violence.
-
2:52 - 3:03But the regime's violence is not the same as
revolutionary violence. -
3:03 - 3:04Since the Friday of Rage [January 28th, 2011],
-
3:04 - 3:07we had to respond to the long years of
state violence and repression -
3:07 - 3:08with revolutionary counter-violence.
-
3:08 - 3:11If we hadn't set fire to the police stations
and humiliated the Interior Ministry, -
3:11 - 3:15there wouldn't have been a revolution
in the first place. -
3:15 - 3:19The people demand the fall of the Brothers!
-
3:19 - 3:21We went to the presidential palace
to demonstrate -
3:21 - 3:22against a new dictator.
-
3:22 - 3:24-Morsi, Murderer-
-
3:24 - 3:27You are the new National Democratic party!
-
3:27 - 3:30Shave your beard, show your true colors,
-
3:30 - 3:33Your face is the same as Mubarak's!
-
3:33 - 3:38The people demand the fall of the regime!
-
3:38 - 3:42We're the youth of January 25!
-
3:42 - 4:12We've taken to the street and we're not leaving!
-
4:12 - 4:14And after the regime sent its Brotherhood
militias to attack protestors -
4:14 - 4:17this was the response of one citizen called Saedeya,
-
4:17 - 4:26You fight us everywhere and kill us
with birdshot and live ammunition. -
4:26 - 4:31You maim and kill and in the end you say,
'it wasn't us'? -
4:31 - 4:35'It was provocateurs hiding
amongst the revolutionaries'?' -
4:35 - 4:37They want to ride the wave, and rule us
as they please, -
4:37 - 4:39and use the Constitution as a fig-leaf?
-
4:39 - 4:45We're the ones who'll give Morsi orders,
he works for us! -
4:45 - 4:48We're the ones who put him power,
we elected him, -
4:48 - 4:52and we'll get rid of him just as easily
as we elected him. -
4:52 - 4:54The regime is playing with everything
at its disposal: -
4:54 - 4:58soccer, religion, sex,
anything to drive us apart and make them stronger. -
4:58 - 5:02Is justice even possible under a regime
built on oppression? -
5:02 - 5:05We don't just want to depose Morsi,
-
5:05 - 5:07just like we didn't only want to depose Mubarak.
-
5:07 - 5:09We don't want their Brothers,
or their National Salvation Front -
5:09 - 5:12or their regime with its parties, elections
and candidates. -
5:12 - 5:15We don't want their police or their military.
-
5:15 - 5:17Change doesn't mean a cabinet shake-up.
-
5:17 - 5:19Nor is change defined by elections.
-
5:19 - 5:21Violence is not the aim.
-
5:21 -Revolutionary violence confronts a broken justice.

Two years after the start of the January 25 revolution we still riot because the ruling elite still exploit us, because the police still torture, maim and kill us and none of them are brought to justice.
