'I know' to 'I don't know' is the Whole Journey

  • 0:09 - 0:13
Seeing everything as it is is being free.
  • 0:18 - 0:22
So just see everything as it is.
  • 0:22 - 0:25
How you will see everything as it is?
  • 0:25 - 0:30
By dropping the sense of knowledge, that 'I know'.
  • 0:32 - 0:38
This is the only thing which is in the way, that 'I know'.
  • 0:38 - 0:44
Even a very small quantity of knowledge you're holding back
  • 0:44 - 0:47
that 'I don't know anything, but I know this'
  • 0:47 - 0:50
is enough to pollute your view.
  • 0:52 - 0:56
So you will have to come to a point where you can clearly see.
  • 0:56 - 1:00
So you must start from the knowledge, let's say
  • 1:01 - 1:04
Start seeing the knowledge as it is.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
    What is knowledge?
  • 1:08 - 1:10
You must see what is knowledge.
  • 1:11 - 1:14
When I say 'I know this phone'
  • 1:14 - 1:15
    what does it mean?
  • 1:15 - 1:20
Have a look inside, check. What does it mean that I know?
  • 1:21 - 1:27
When I say I know David, what does it mean?
  • 1:27 - 1:33
What does it include, what is included in this package
    'I know you'?
  • 1:33 - 1:39
A memory, that we met few weeks before.
  • 1:40 - 1:44
And we have been slowly slowly friends,
  • 1:44 - 1:48
and we are open and we are doing this and sitting together,
  • 1:48 - 1:51
like this, like this, like this...
  • 1:51 - 1:54
Is there anything more that this?
  • 1:54 - 1:56
If there is nothing more than the memory
  • 1:56 - 1:58
    in the mind
  • 2:00 - 2:02
then how can I say I really know you?
  • 2:06 - 2:08
    It's like every moment
  • 2:08 - 2:13
every meeting is new between me and you,
  • 2:13 - 2:17
    whereas 'I know' is like
  • 2:17 - 2:19
    coming from this memory.
  • 2:23 - 2:29
So it's like average of all my moments of the memory
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    or essence
  • 2:31 - 2:34
That is what I call 'I know David'.
  • 2:35 - 2:38
Just have a look - you will know this, not so
  • 2:38 - 2:40
    so easy to understand verbally,
  • 2:40 - 2:43
but just have a look - what do you mean by knowledge,
  • 2:43 - 2:45
what do you mean when you say 'I know'.
  • 2:45 - 2:47
    What does it mean?
  • 2:47 - 2:50
    So don't remove anything
  • 2:50 - 2:51
just see it as it is.
  • 2:51 - 2:53
    You will become immediately aware
  • 2:53 - 2:56
that 'I know' is a very limited
  • 2:56 - 2:58
    limited knowledge
  • 2:58 - 3:03
a very day-to-day usage - it's OK for daily usage,
  • 3:03 - 3:05
    but not ultimately.
  • 3:05 - 3:09
    Even when you say 'I know' - I know a rose, I know a flower -
  • 3:09 - 3:11
    what does it mean?
  • 3:14 - 3:17
    I know a flower, I know a rose means
  • 3:18 - 3:22
referring to the experience you have had so far
  • 3:22 - 3:24
of this flower, or any flower.
  • 3:26 - 3:28
Anything you have read on internet,
  • 3:28 - 3:31
in books or anywhere about flower.
  • 3:34 - 3:38
You had some direct experience of smelling flower or like this,
  • 3:38 - 3:40
combined together in what you call
  • 3:40 - 3:44
    'I know a rose, I know a flower', isn't it?
  • 3:45 - 3:49
But if you see it, you will be very clear about it.
  • 3:49 - 3:53
It's very limited knowledge, as far as a flower is concerned,
  • 3:53 - 3:58
because every flower every moment is new, fresh, always.
  • 3:58 - 4:02
What I call 'I know' is basically 'I know about'.
  • 4:03 - 4:07
Except your very deep experiences of anything,
  • 4:07 - 4:10
anything that you refer to as your knowledge
  • 4:10 - 4:12
    is knowing about it.
  • 4:13 - 4:15
    Not knowing it.
  • 4:15 - 4:20
Knowing it means like water, drinking. This is knowing water.
  • 4:20 - 4:25
And drinking, and then in the mind - remembering
  • 4:25 - 4:28
for the next time what was the taste of water.
  • 4:28 - 4:31
    This is knowing about water.
  • 4:31 - 4:35
Not of any use. Not of much use, you can say.
  • 4:35 - 4:38
Good for talking with friends and communication with others,
  • 4:38 - 4:42
but not for knowing the truth of life.
  • 4:44 - 4:51
So starting from the verification of your knowledge
  • 4:51 - 4:57
and slowly you will reach to the point that 'I don't really know anything'
  • 4:57 - 5:00
    So the sense 'I know'
  • 5:00 - 5:03
is what is in the way.
  • 5:03 - 5:06
    Once removed, you become free.
  • 5:08 - 5:13
Your eyes become clean. Then you see everything as it is.
  • 5:18 - 5:21
    Then this camera is something
  • 5:23 - 5:26
you will be able to see the camera beyond the word,
  • 5:26 - 5:31
beyond the definition 'camera', you know, like this.
  • 5:31 - 5:34
This is seeing it as it is.
  • 5:37 - 5:45
When we were talking, all of us, little bit, then you guys have some name, a background, you know, like this,
  • 5:45 - 5:51
so we are having a talk person to person, men to men,
    women to women, like this
  • 5:52 - 5:55
But when we are sitting here
  • 5:56 - 5:58
    we are not using names
  • 5:59 - 6:05
we are not using any memory or any impression about you.
  • 6:05 - 6:11
Then - then what is this? Then what is this?
  • 6:11 - 6:14
Then what you see is what actually it is.
  • 6:16 - 6:20
You are totally free to see the truth of life
  • 6:20 - 6:25
if you don't insist on this sense 'I know. I know, I know'.
  • 6:26 - 6:31
You're always free, every moment you are free to see it
    as it is.
  • 6:31 - 6:35
Nothing is... when I look at this
  • 6:37 - 6:41
it looks like if you don't... if you're not looking from this position,
  • 6:42 - 6:48
from 'I know', it looks like - OK, whatever it is. Then there is no acceptance and there is no rejection.
  • 6:48 - 6:50
When you reject anything, what does it mean?
  • 6:50 - 6:57
It means you already know with what you have to compare. You know?
  • 6:57 - 7:01
OK, you are already having a checklist of qualities
  • 7:01 - 7:05
you are looking for in this particular experience or thing.
  • 7:05 - 7:08
So you already know - no, this is not there.
  • 7:10 - 7:15
Whereas I'm saying 'I know' is a wrong position
  • 7:15 - 7:19
to hold before you really know yourself.
  • 7:19 - 7:24
    Before you know yourself
you cannot really have any true knowledge.
  • 7:25 - 7:29
All the knowledge will be mental knowledge, you can say,
  • 7:29 - 7:34
bookish knowledge - not real knowledge.
  • 7:34 - 7:38
Real knowledge happens when you really connect with anything, become one with anything.
  • 7:38 - 7:42
That is the only way of having real knowledge.
  • 7:46 - 7:49
We say that we know mind - we don't.
  • 7:50 - 7:55
To know mind you will have to be totally one with the mind, totally comfortable with the mind.
  • 7:56 - 8:01
It means you are here, thoughts are moving,
    and you are comfortably here.
  • 8:02 - 8:05
Not like 'oh oh oh', you know.
  • 8:05 - 8:07
    It's like - OK.
  • 8:09 - 8:11
Then you will see it as it is.
  • 8:13 - 8:16
It should be like this, it should not be like this...
  • 8:16 - 8:20
This is what our... this is the way we meet everything, actually.
  • 8:20 - 8:26
You always have some kind of preparation
    to accept or reject it.
  • 8:26 - 8:27
    Isn't it?
  • 8:29 - 8:34
When you don't have any idea of what exactly it is -
  • 8:34 - 8:40
I mean you have clearly seen that your ideas are not really knowledge -
  • 8:40 - 8:42
then you become free from them,
  • 8:42 - 8:47
then you don't allow, give them any value
while you are looking at anything.
  • 8:47 - 8:51
    Very live example:
  • 8:52 - 8:58
this is a spiritual teacher, non-duality teacher.
  • 8:58 - 9:00
    Remove this word,
  • 9:00 - 9:04
and the definition, and everything, and now look again -
  • 9:06 - 9:10
then you will see what actually it is.
  • 9:10 - 9:12
    And you will like a...
  • 9:13 - 9:17
it's something very different from what it appears to be.
  • 9:30 - 9:32
Knowing the truth does not need any
  • 9:32 - 9:35
special qualities, special skills in the mind.
  • 9:37 - 9:41
You don't need to be a great seeker, great scholar.
  • 9:42 - 9:46
    A child-like mind
  • 9:48 - 9:50
    with awareness is enough.
  • 9:51 - 9:53
    Child-like means 'I don't know anything'.
  • 9:55 - 9:57
    Child-like means 'I don't know'.
  • 9:58 - 10:01
And you are comfortable with this 'I don't know',
  • 10:01 - 10:06
    not like 'Ooohoho, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know,
what to do, what to do?'
  • 10:06 - 10:11
You're OK - 'Yes. This is my present position, I don't know.'
  • 10:12 - 10:16
'Whatever it is - now let's see what will happen next.'
  • 10:17 - 10:21
    'But right now I am going to stick to the truth of myself;
  • 10:21 - 10:25
my truth, my present truth is - I don't know.'
  • 10:27 - 10:29
    And i say to you
  • 10:29 - 10:35
when you are reaching to a complete 'I don't know',
    it is a door.
  • 10:35 - 10:38
On one side of the door when you are coming from mind,
  • 10:38 - 10:41
coming from knowledge, coming from the sense of 'I know'
  • 10:41 - 10:43
to the 'I don't know' is a gate.
  • 10:43 - 10:50
On one side of the door is 'I don't know' with a crying face,
    like 'Ooooh, I don't know, I don't know....'
  • 10:50 - 10:54
You just stay here for some time.
  • 10:54 - 10:58
Without you knowing anything you will enter into the gate
  • 10:58 - 11:01
gate of your self, gate of the truth of life.
  • 11:01 - 11:03
    On the other side
  • 11:03 - 11:12
From the other side on the same door it is written 'I don't know', with a smiley face, with a celebration like 'Yeaaah!'
  • 11:12 - 11:16
It is so unburdening, it is so liberating, that 'I don't know'.
  • 11:18 - 11:20
'I know' is such a burden
  • 11:21 - 11:26
when you are living as yourself.
  • 11:26 - 11:30
When you don't know yourself, 'I know' is the only torch you think you are holding.
  • 11:31 - 11:34
    Which can show you anything....
  • 11:34 - 11:39
    otherwise it's all darkness, no?
    'I don't know' means it's all darkness.
  • 11:40 - 11:44
So it's a very bad situation, very bad condition when
  • 11:44 - 11:48
you are not knowing yourself - 'I don't know'....
  • 11:48 - 11:51
When you know yourself, then it is such an impurity - 'I know'.
  • 11:52 - 12:00
'I know' is such an impurity, because you have capacity
to see everything directly, without knowledge.
  • 12:01 - 12:09
And you have not explored it yet, so you have to be dependent on second-hand knowledge of the mind.
  • 12:13 - 12:17
Why you need to know anything about an apple when you are eating it?
  • 12:18 - 12:22
You are eating, you are one with the apple, you are totally one with the apple.
  • 12:22 - 12:26
Taste, body and mind - everything is one in this moment.
  • 12:26 - 12:30
Why you need to know anything about it?
  • 12:30 - 12:33
You don't need to know; apple also don't need to know anything.
  • 12:33 - 12:40
I mean apple has not put any condition that until you know myself, I will not allow you to eat, isn't it?
  • 12:43 - 12:46
    It is for others.
  • 12:46 - 12:49
If you ask me how was apple, what i will say?
  • 12:50 - 12:56
You can.... it is like a decision, a courage that you have to develop in you; you can say....
  • 12:59 - 13:02
    And just you kind of....
  • 13:02 - 13:08
train yourself how to escape such conflicts
  • 13:08 - 13:11
where you are supposed to say something about it,
  • 13:11 - 13:15
and you know that you don't know,
and you don't want to use any false knowledge.
  • 13:15 - 13:17
    And you'll say - 'I'm fine'.
  • 13:25 - 13:28
So it's not that truth is hiding anywhere.
  • 13:29 - 13:32
Truth is not hiding anywhere - it is right here.
  • 13:32 - 13:34
    Everywhere.
  • 13:35 - 13:37
    It is
  • 13:37 - 13:41
from which position you look is
  • 13:41 - 13:46
what will decide what you will see, or what you will find.
  • 13:49 - 13:50
Your position of deluded state 'I know'
  • 13:54 - 13:54
will show you only what is limited to this 'I',
    this circle of 'I know',
  • 14:00 - 14:05
so you can never go beyond this circle of 'I know'.
  • 14:06 - 14:11
And if you want to know the Truth,
you have to leave this 'I know'.
  • 14:16 - 14:21
See it as it is - no expectation, no hurry,
  • 14:23 - 14:27
because all this hurry, all this restlessness
    is because of already -
  • 14:28 - 14:31
first of all I know. And this 'I know' is polluting everything - I know how
  • 14:31 - 14:37
what is awakening, I know what is this, you know.
  • 14:39 - 14:48
And you're every moment touching this awakening, rejecting it continuously. Because 'I know' it is not this.
  • 14:48 - 14:54
    You all are right now living in Truth;
you are in Truth right now with awareness.
  • 14:54 - 15:02
I mean the full Truth - you right now, all of you,
are in full Truth, full awakening.
  • 15:02 - 15:05
    Truth and awareness, both.
  • 15:05 - 15:10
    But how do you know
  • 15:10 - 15:16
your question is - for example, from your side valid question would be: 'How can I know this is Truth?'
  • 15:16 - 15:20
My question is: ' How do you know it is not?'
  • 15:20 - 15:23
My question is: ' How do you know it is not?'
  • 15:23 - 15:30
So you have right to ask this question, that maybe it is not truth.
  • 15:30 - 15:34
I also have a question to ask, that maybe it is.
  • 15:34 - 15:37
So let's have a tie here.
  • 15:37 - 15:41
I will not say it is Truth, you don't say it is not Truth.
  • 15:41 - 15:44
    Let's remain open.
  • 15:44 - 15:47
    Because if it is Truth,
  • 15:47 - 15:50
it is self-evident; it has its own evidence.
  • 15:50 - 15:55
It does not need evidence from outside,
for somebody to say that it is true.
  • 15:55 - 15:57
It will prove itself to you.
  • 15:57 - 16:01
The only condition is - you have to stay.
  • 16:01 - 16:05
You have to stay with the purity of your heart.
  • 16:05 - 16:08
    'I don't know...' Just stay.
  • 16:08 - 16:10
It will prove itself to you.
  • 16:10 - 16:17
    'Yes, I am Truth.'
  • 16:17 - 16:20
So is it OK, we are having a tie now -
  • 16:20 - 16:23
I don't say it is Truth, you don't say it is not.
  • 16:23 - 16:24
We don't know what it is.
  • 16:26 - 16:35
If it is truth, it will prove itself.
  • 16:39 - 16:43
Truth is not something which is hiding somewhere, and
  • 16:43 - 16:48
if you move little bit it will fall, it will disappear,
you will miss the chance to get it.
  • 16:48 - 16:52
It's everywhere, all the time, like this.
  • 16:52 - 16:56
You can miss, you can escape from everything but Truth.
  • 16:56 - 16:59
You can find the place where you can
  • 16:59 - 17:07
you can escape from certain qualities, certain states, certain feelings, certain emotions, certain capacities, experiences
  • 17:07 - 17:09
    of yourself
  • 17:09 - 17:18
but you can never escape Truth. There is no place where you don't find Truth.
  • 17:18 - 17:21
The only way to escape Truth is
  • 17:21 - 17:28
not seeing everything as it is. So don't put any conditions.
  • 17:28 - 17:32
And you don't know how many conditions we are putting.
  • 17:37 - 17:40
When we are here, all of us are here,
    already there is a condition
  • 17:40 - 17:43
that I don't know myself, I want to know myself, that's why I'm here.
  • 17:43 - 17:49
Already it is a condition - very deep, not so easy to detect,
but still it is a condition.
  • 17:50 - 17:54
How do you know that you don't know yourself?
  • 17:54 - 18:02
Maybe it is just a very idea that 'I don't know myself' is keeping you away from living yourself as yourself.
  • 18:02 - 18:04
    Maybe just this much.
  • 18:04 - 18:06
    How do you know this?
  • 18:09 - 18:14
So let us live very very neutral, in a neutral state.
  • 18:15 - 18:18
    I'm neither for nor against.
  • 18:18 - 18:22
So you are here. You don't know why you are here.
  • 18:22 - 18:26
Let us keep it like this. I mean, I knew why I came here, but now I don't know.
  • 18:26 - 18:30
I cannot really say why I came - I'm here now.
  • 18:30 - 18:32
    Stay like this.
  • 18:32 - 18:38
    I'm just here.
  • 18:38 - 18:42
Any difficulty, any fear you have inside yourself
  • 18:42 - 18:48
is connected with 'I know' in some form, in some way.
  • 18:48 - 18:53
I can lose myself, I can lose myself...
  • 18:53 - 18:57
Or, for example, a sense of losing control.
  • 18:57 - 19:01
How do you know there is any control in the first place?
  • 19:01 - 19:09
Have you checked really that there is, you have a control over life, over your actions, over the events of your life?
  • 19:09 - 19:10
Do you have any control already?
  • 19:10 - 19:14
Because it's a very common, very very common
  • 19:14 - 19:21
rooted experience that seekers feel as they go deeper, very very deep
  • 19:21 - 19:28
that they feel like sense of losing control of their life.
  • 19:28 - 19:30
    So my question is
  • 19:30 - 19:34
did you have a control ever in the first place?
  • 19:34 - 19:41
    Have you checked?
  • 19:41 - 19:46
It is also coming from 'I know'.
  • 19:46 - 19:50
So for me it's like 'I know'
  • 19:50 - 19:55
    to 'I don't know'.
  • 19:55 - 19:58
    This is a whole journey
  • 19:58 - 20:02
    from 'I know' to 'I don't know'.
  • 20:02 - 20:06
And from 'I don't know' you don't need any efforts,
  • 20:06 - 20:12
    because it's such a restless state - 'I don't know',
it is such a dark state of the being
  • 20:12 - 20:18
that being will jump into itself very easily,
will slip into self very easily.
  • 20:18 - 20:23
    Very comfortably it will slip,
and before you know you are living as your self.
  • 20:23 - 20:28
Because 'I don't know' is like living without any juice of life,
  • 20:28 - 20:31
without any joy of life, without any beauty of life.
  • 20:31 - 20:40
It looks like... living without a reference point for yourself.
  • 20:40 - 20:46
If you feel, he needs to ask anything, we can little bit talk, maybe.
  • 20:46 - 20:52
Like you can work as a translator if it is appropriate.
  • 20:52 - 20:56
Q: I'm very sorry, we don't speak English very well,
  • 20:56 - 21:00
but anyway we will try to speak.
  • 21:00 - 21:05
We're looking for something but we don't know what we're looking.
  • 21:05 - 21:14
So to say, for me it's I understand maybe 20-30% of what you say.
  • 21:14 - 21:16
    But I feel very well.
  • 21:16 - 21:18
    Aha. That is more important.
  • 21:18 - 21:22
Feeling is what is needed here, actually.
  • 21:22 - 21:25
To know the truth you need feeling,
  • 21:25 - 21:30
not thinking, you know. So you miss all my words - it's OK.
  • 21:30 - 21:33
    But not what I am.
  • 21:33 - 21:39
You know, you miss what i say,
but you get what I am. Then we are done.
  • 21:39 - 21:45
So we need... you need receptivity in the heart, the feeling,
  • 21:45 - 21:51
not how accurately you are able to receive my words, you know.
  • 21:51 - 21:52
    They are just nothing.
  • 21:52 - 21:56
They are just happening right now because there's need to talk.
  • 21:56 - 22:02
Otherwise there is no need to talk, we will just sit silently., happily, and you will know everything.
  • 22:02 - 22:04
    Very easily.
  • 22:04 - 22:07
Because I am it and you are also it.
  • 22:07 - 22:11
I know, you don't, but that is the only difference.
  • 22:11 - 22:14
I am Truth, you are also Truth.
  • 22:14 - 22:21
I am aware of it - 'I know' means 'I am aware', not that 'I know'; nobody can know Truth, remember this.
  • 22:21 - 22:27
Nobody can know Truth as some knowledge that can be extracted.
  • 22:27 - 22:32
You can be Truth, you cannot know Truth.
  • 22:32 - 22:37
But you become aware that 'Hey, I'm not this!'
  • 22:37 - 22:39
    Whatever you know
  • 22:39 - 22:41
    you are not, remember this.
  • 22:41 - 22:44
About yourself, whatever you know, you are not.
  • 22:44 - 22:49
So just make it a distinction, make it a discrimination like this,
  • 22:49 - 22:53
division like this: whatever you say 'I know this, I know this, I know this' -
  • 22:53 - 22:55
    you are not this.
  • 22:55 - 23:03
It is something you have. And there is somebody, there is some power inside you which has it, the owner of this,
  • 23:03 - 23:09
or the container of this in which it is happening.
  • 23:09 - 23:11
    So be clear about it.
  • 23:11 - 23:18
You cannot know yourself. You can only know what you're not.
  • 23:18 - 23:22
Don't try, don't mix these things.
  • 23:22 - 23:28
So there is no such thing as
'I know about things', 'I know about myself'.
  • 23:28 - 23:30
You only know about things, whatever it is.
  • 23:30 - 23:37
All the knowledge you can ever have
will be about something which is not your self essentially.
