The Choice is Ours (2015) Parts I & II trailer

  • 0:02 - 0:04
    For the first time
  • 0:04 - 0:05
    we have the capability,
  • 0:05 - 0:06
    the technology
  • 0:06 - 0:08
    and the knowledge
  • 0:08 - 0:11
to achieve a global society of abundance
  • 0:11 - 0:13
    for all.
  • 0:16 - 0:18
    The question is
  • 0:18 - 0:21
What kind of world do we want to live in?
  • 0:22 - 0:24
If we continue as we are
  • 0:24 - 0:27
the consequences will surely be dire.
  • 0:28 - 0:31
    We're presently depleting
    natural resources
  • 0:31 - 0:34
50% faster than the planet can renew.
  • 0:35 - 0:37
    Are we incapable of anticipating
  • 0:37 - 0:40
    and planning for our future?
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    Are politicians competent
  • 0:43 - 0:45
to manage the world around us?
  • 0:46 - 0:50
Are we innately flawed in ways
    we can’t change?
  • 0:50 - 0:53
We often hear that our worst qualities
    are inborn.
  • 0:53 - 0:55
    “Only human nature”.
  • 0:55 - 0:57
The culture doesn’t know any better.
  • 0:57 - 0:59
They don’t know what forces are involved
  • 0:59 - 1:01
    in shaping human behavior.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
Therefore they say "that’s human nature".
  • 1:03 - 1:05
    That’s where they’re wrong.
  • 1:05 - 1:06
    [The Determinants of Behavior]
  • 1:06 - 1:09
So the science of behavior needs
    to be applied
  • 1:09 - 1:10
    like the sciences of
  • 1:10 - 1:12
physics, chemistry, and biology have been.
  • 1:12 - 1:15
That’s the one missing, you know,
  • 1:15 - 1:17
    ingredient in our culture.
  • 1:17 - 1:19
    And that’s the toughest one
  • 1:19 - 1:21
    because it opposes
  • 1:21 - 1:22
    the way that most people
  • 1:22 - 1:23
    think about themselves.
  • 1:25 - 1:27
    If the surroundings
    that establish our values
  • 1:27 - 1:29
    remain unaltered,
  • 1:29 - 1:31
    the same behaviors will persist.
  • 1:32 - 1:34
    If you made a movie
  • 1:34 - 1:35
    about the present day culture,
  • 1:35 - 1:38
in the future, it would be a horror film.
  • 1:38 - 1:38
    Savage? Savage!
  • 1:38 - 1:40
    Saving the planet?
  • 1:40 - 1:41
    They want their money!
  • 1:41 - 1:44
Every institution that we live in is corrupted
  • 1:44 - 1:44
    by money.
  • 1:44 - 1:46
It’s a fiat system that we operate under
    and
  • 1:46 - 1:50
    it’s actually someone punching numbers
    on the computer somewhere.
  • 1:50 - 1:52
That is how we manufacture money today.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
    You have what is effectively
    a criminal enterprise
  • 1:55 - 1:57
    based on the manipulation
    of people’s attention,
  • 1:57 - 1:58
    resources, and time
  • 1:58 - 2:00
in order to extract value from them.
  • 2:01 - 2:03
They’re stealing money from us that way.
  • 2:03 - 2:07
    They’re stealing
    the results of our efforts
  • 2:07 - 2:08
    and our labor.
  • 2:08 - 2:10
    The media’s morphed into just
  • 2:10 - 2:12
    peddling the corporate interest of
  • 2:12 - 2:15
the money masters that control the
    political establishment.
  • 2:15 - 2:17
    Those interests
are going to be served first
  • 2:17 - 2:19
and everything is going to be secondary.
  • 2:19 - 2:21
And that’s the sad reality of it.
  • 2:21 - 2:24
Up to 40 to 50 percent of the people
  • 2:23 - 2:27
    in our criminal justice system
    are black men.
  • 2:27 - 2:29
And black men make up roughly
  • 2:29 - 2:31
five percent of our nations population.
  • 2:31 - 2:34
And I think people can discuss and debate
  • 2:34 - 2:35
    the causes for that
  • 2:35 - 2:36
and this goes for everything from
  • 2:36 - 2:39
    institutional racism, policing practices,
  • 2:39 - 2:41
    and that.
But I think at the end of the day
  • 2:41 - 2:42
it all boils down to class.
  • 2:42 - 2:46
Cause I think that the reason that racial
    minorities are disproportionally
  • 2:46 - 2:48
    incarcerated is because they’re also
  • 2:48 - 2:49
    disproportionally poor.
  • 2:49 - 2:51
    [What are the Real Costs?]
  • 2:51 - 2:53
    The current energy infrastructure
  • 2:53 - 2:55
which has been going on for a long time
  • 2:55 - 2:58
    has resulted in the accumulation
  • 2:58 - 3:01
of greenhouse gasses and particles that
  • 3:01 - 3:02
    cause warming of
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    the earth’s climate.
  • 3:04 - 3:06
And the earth’s climate is warming at
  • 3:06 - 3:08
a rate faster than any time
  • 3:08 - 3:10
since deglaciation from the last ice age.
  • 3:10 - 3:13
    We’re seeing this environmental damage
  • 3:13 - 3:14
    on the earth
  • 3:14 - 3:16
    created by humans,
  • 3:16 - 3:19
but we see it from a cosmic perspective,
  • 3:19 - 3:22
means that it’s just not something that
    we can ignore.
  • 3:22 - 3:24
    The planet is responding
  • 3:24 - 3:26
    to the presence of humanity.
  • 3:27 - 3:29
    If you were to integrate
  • 3:29 - 3:30
    the cost of war,
  • 3:30 - 3:31
    the cost of pollution,
  • 3:31 - 3:34
    the cost of environmental disruption,
  • 3:34 - 3:35
    a gallon of gasoline
  • 3:35 - 3:38
    would cost between
    15 and 20 dollars a gallon.
  • 3:39 - 3:43
We have to realize our planet does have a
    certain amount of
  • 3:43 - 3:44
    regenerative power.
  • 3:44 - 3:47
    There is a limiting
    carrying capacity though.
  • 3:47 - 3:49
There’s no end to the possibilities
  • 3:49 - 3:51
    of the civilized world
  • 3:51 - 3:53
    It hasn’t even begun yet.
  • 3:53 - 3:56
There’s no limit to the possibilities
  • 3:56 - 3:58
    of science and technology
  • 3:58 - 3:59
    in the near future.
  • 3:59 - 4:01
We have to reclaim the environment,
  • 4:01 - 4:04
    and human beings as well.
  • 4:04 - 4:07
That’s what The Venus Project is about.
