The San Francisco Giants Win at Twitter

  • 0:13 - 0:18
Twitter and sports, and Twitter and baseball
in general is a match made in heaven, it really is.
  • 0:18 - 0:25
It's a way for fans to connect with their team,
with their favorite players, with other fans,
  • 0:25 - 0:32
to follow the team throughout the season and get
that information sent directly to their phone or computer.
  • 0:32 - 0:36
And I think that, most important, it gives them
the chance to have a voice. I just think Twitter
  • 0:36 - 0:42
has brought our fans closer to us and closer
to each other, and we truly are appreciative
  • 0:42 - 0:46
of our relationship with our fans, especially using Twitter.
  • 0:46 - 0:51
[Giants' fans, this party is just getting started!]
  • 0:55 - 0:59
My name is Bryan Srabian and I oversee
the social media for the San Francisco Giants,
  • 0:59 - 1:02
    which includes the Twitter @sfgiants.
  • 1:05 - 1:10
We look at Twitter as a way to connect with all of
our fans, whether they're at the game, at home
  • 1:10 - 1:15
watching it on TV or just out and about.
I think we started the Twitter account simply
  • 1:15 - 1:21
as a way to announce the line-ups, key stats
and the score of the game.
  • 1:21 - 1:28
When I started I thought we should take it a step further
and really enhance everything that we do in being
  • 1:28 - 1:34
the voice of the organization, including the marketing side, the fan relationship. So, we're taking it a step further
  • 1:34 - 1:40
and our growth has just been phenomenal this year, and I think our fans really have appreciated our use of Twitter.
  • 1:47 - 1:53
I like the news updates, know the line-up first,
I like to hear all the breaking news, things like that.
  • 1:53 - 1:57
Sport is really the main reason why I'm at Twitter.
I follow a lot of writers, a lot of broadcasters.
  • 1:57 - 2:01
You can keep up to date with what's happening,
either in a game or what's coming up for a game.
  • 2:01 - 2:06
I like to follow random fans to see what they say
about the Giants, it's cool to get a different perspective
  • 2:06 - 2:08
that people have about the team.
  • 2:08 - 2:13
We've tweeted pictures of the field before the gates opened, we've tweeted some of the fans we think are great.
  • 2:13 - 2:16
We also ask the fans to send us pictures, because
  • 2:16 - 2:21
I think throughout the game it's always neat to see
where people are sitting, what they're wearing,
  • 2:21 - 2:26
sometimes we'll do trivia contests or
    giveaways of merchandise and tickets.
  • 2:26 - 2:32
We've even had our team photographer send in-game
photos throughout the game. These are all behind
  • 2:32 - 2:35
the scenes exclusive things that our fans just love.
  • 2:39 - 2:43
The emotion on the field often
replicates online, and I have the privilege
  • 2:43 - 2:51
of watching the Twitter stream during a live game,
almost feel everyone there on Twitter is together.
  • 2:51 - 2:54
    It's a community, it's been a fun ride
    but we're learning everyday too,
  • 2:54 - 2:59
and I think it has been a dream season
on and off the field for the Giants.
