This Web Archiving Service video tutorial
-
will show you how to compare
-
your capture results.
-
Comparing your capture results
-
is beneficial because it allows you to see
-
how the site that you are capturing
-
has changed over time.
-
Comparing captures is also beneficial
-
if you have recently changed any capture settings.
-
This will allow you to see
-
how your changes are affecting your captures.
-
There are two ways to access
-
the "Compare Captures" information
-
on the WAS website.
-
One is to click on "View Captures."
-
On the "View Captures" page,
-
each site that has been captured multiple times
-
will have a "Compare" link next to it.
-
Clicking on the "Compare" link
-
will take you a list of each capture for that site.
-
The other way to access the "Compare Captures" information
-
is to use the dropdown menu
-
to go directly to the "Compare Captures" screen.
-
A list of all of the sites with multiple captures
-
will appear, and you may click
-
on the "Compare Captures" link
-
for the site of you choice.
-
Again, a list will be displayed that
-
shows each capture for that site.
-
In order to compare two captures,
-
simply select the boxes to the left
-
of the capture date and click "Submit."
-
The "Compare Captures" result page
-
has a useful change summary at the top,
-
where you can see how many files are
-
changed, new, missing, and unchanged.
-
In addition, you may use the tabs
-
to view the files in each of these categories.
-
Results are automatically listed by URL,
-
but you choose to reorganize the list by file size.
-
On the right hand side of the screen,
-
you can choose to limit the results by file type.
-
For example, you can choose the list of new files
-
and narrow it to "pdfs"
-
in order to view only those PDFs
-
that are new since your last capture.
