Indonesia V4C Gathering 2014

  • 0:22 - 0:30
I'm a independent filmmaker and also a translator.
  • 0:30 - 0:37
I'm with Forum Lenteng with friends.
  • 0:37 - 0:41
We create video projects, video workshop, media literacy.
  • 0:41 - 0:48
If we're talking about the impact of what we've created
  • 0:48 - 0:51
    works that we have made
  • 0:51 - 1:00
Right from the beginning, when we create the film we must think about that...
  • 1:00 - 1:05
We have think about that, but a workshop focused on impact for our work, well we didn't have that yet.
  • 1:05 - 1:07
    Maybe we call it differently.
  • 1:12 - 1:21
Before, in Forum Lenteng, we have this media literacy (program).
  • 1:21 - 1:28
    Media literacy is too broad.
  • 1:28 - 1:30
And everybody has already talked about this.
  • 1:30 - 1:32
    Something like that.
  • 1:32 - 1:34
Hello, my name is Muna Rif'atil Akhlaq.
  • 1:34 - 1:37
I'm from the Qoryah Thoyibah Community Learning Center, Salatiga (Central Java, Indonesia).
  • 1:37 - 1:39
There we are learning many skills of every sort that can benefit us.
  • 1:41 - 2:00
And we created videos, but they are not long documentaries.
  • 2:00 - 2:04
    It's not like a long, well-made film.
  • 2:04 - 2:08
In short, we've made this video which talks about
  • 2:11 - 2:14
    young people today.
  • 2:14 - 2:16
    We call it 'Lost Identity'.
  • 2:16 - 2:26
In this video we tell a story about young people in this era who spend a lot of time on the Internet
  • 2:26 - 2:28
rather than socialize with their community.
  • 2:28 - 2:31
I'm Yuniatifa from Kebumen SMK 1 High School.
  • 2:31 - 2:36
And I'm with Belum Bikin Production, it's my community.
  • 2:36 - 2:41
The target of this film is all levels of society.
  • 2:41 - 2:49
We didn't target only high schools, or government officials, but all levels in our society.
  • 2:49 - 2:59
And actually this video provides new information to everyone or new knowledge to respect to local culture in your area.
  • 2:59 - 3:03
    I'm Ilun from Jakarta.
  • 3:03 - 3:06
    A freelancer filmmaker.
  • 3:06 - 3:07
    Fiction and documentary film.
  • 3:10 - 3:13
I have produced many films for personal and social impact.
  • 3:16 - 3:28
These videos highlight many issues such as human rights in 'Black Umbrella'.
  • 3:28 - 3:31
    -
  • 3:31 - 3:37
So in 2011, we produced this video with a producer named Carolin Monteiro, that focuses on women
  • 3:37 - 3:40
who brought about change in Indonesia.
  • 3:41 - 3:48
We used two important subjects and the situation hasn't changed much until now.
  • 3:49 - 3:58
We've followed the daily activities of these two subjects. After we finished production, this video gave us some important impact
  • 3:58 - 4:01
which was quite strong for the subject matters themselves.
  • 4:01 - 4:06
They used the video for advocacy.
  • 4:06 - 4:12
And with this video, the subjects felt being represented, and they used it in their seminars.
  • 4:12 - 4:21
They screened it and it became a powerful tool because it's visual.
  • 4:21 - 4:25
And I've got several other films
  • 4:25 - 4:27
    which has a theme
  • 4:28 - 4:33
that is close to us, corruption. And this is a fiction film
  • 4:33 - 4:35
    but based on true story.
  • 4:35 - 4:40
Aand the government was also involved in this project.
  • 4:40 - 4:46
As for the government, they felt that this short film can be an efective tool
  • 4:46 - 4:48
    for outreach to young people.
  • 4:48 - 5:00
They can quickly grasp the visual language rather than discussion in a seminar.
  • 5:00 - 5:10
So with this film, they also realized what they did before did not achieve a lot of outcomes.
  • 5:10 - 5:22
For example, in the KPK (Anti-Graft Commission) film production about how education systems reproduced corruption.
  • 5:22 - 5:29
The headmaster and all the students
  • 5:29 - 5:33
worked together to figure out how to utilize some oportunity
  • 5:33 - 5:37
    to raise the book prices.
  • 5:37 - 5:39
Then the mothers will raise the prices to their husbands.
  • 5:39 - 5:43
Their husbands will the cheat in the office with their bosses.
  • 5:43 - 5:50
So it's like producing a vicious circle at a smaller level. I tried to capture this and it's effective enough.
  • 5:50 - 5:56
And we screened this video in several high schools and junior high schools.
  • 5:56 - 6:04
They became more critical. So they realized that this kind of behavior is wrong.
  • 6:04 - 6:05
And that they haven't cared about it for a long time.
