In support of Oleg Leontyev!

  • 0:01 - 0:04
It seemed that we lived in a state governed by the rule of law.
  • 0:04 - 0:08
It did not occur to us that this could happen to our friend.
  • 0:08 - 0:13
To a journalist, a model citizen and a good man - Oleg Leontyev.
  • 0:13 - 0:16
On December 17 Oleg and I had a lot to do.
  • 0:16 - 0:19
He just rented a studio in this building, and I helped him move his stuff.
  • 0:19 - 0:22
We were in a hurry, because Oleg had to give coverage to a 'Fair elections' rally,
  • 0:22 - 0:24
that took place at 2 PM that day.
  • 0:24 - 0:29
That's why, after finishing moving things, at 1:30 PM we parted and each of us went his own way.
  • 0:29 - 0:33
At 1:31 PM Oleg wrote from his iPad: "I am going to the rally".
  • 0:33 - 0:36
We met here at around 1:42 PM.
  • 0:36 - 0:39
At 1:45 PM we were standing here, smoking and watching people gather for the rally.
  • 0:39 - 0:42
The next day policemen knocked on Oleg's door.
  • 0:42 - 0:45
They said that there was a burglary in one of the apartments in his building.
  • 0:45 - 0:49
They asked him about his whereabouts on December 17th at 2 PM.
  • 0:49 - 0:52
And then they showed him a facial composite of an alleged criminal.
  • 0:52 - 0:57
Oleg could not even imagine that the facial composite that was so unlike him would become his portrait.
  • 0:57 - 1:00
For about two months police showed no interest in Oleg,
  • 1:00 - 1:03
but after attempts to find the actual criminal became futile, they decided to fix the blame on somebody --
  • 1:03 - 1:05
    -- they chose Oleg.
  • 1:05 - 1:09
On February 19 Oleg was called in to Investigation Committee for questioning.
  • 1:09 - 1:11
When Oleg left his home, he hadn't even turned off the lights --
  • 1:11 - 1:13
he was sure that he would be back in an hour.
  • 1:13 - 1:15
The police line-up failed to meet the legal requirements.
  • 1:15 - 1:17
A frightened girl was shown a line-up of three men,
  • 1:17 - 1:21
of which only Oleg fitted the profile by age and bodily constitution.
  • 1:21 - 1:24
The child was manipulated into making the right choice
  • 1:24 - 1:26
    and pointing to Oleg.
  • 1:26 - 1:27
He was locked up the same day.
  • 1:27 - 1:30
He is still in the cell.
  • 1:30 - 1:32
From February 19 and up to this day.
  • 1:32 - 1:35
All of us testified that at the moment when the crime occured
  • 1:35 - 1:37
Oleg was seen at the square by dozens of people.
  • 1:37 - 1:42
We even submitted photographs and videos that were shot at 2 PM sharp that day.
  • 1:42 - 1:44
When that pervert attacked the girl, Oleg was at the rally.
  • 1:44 - 1:47
My testimony passed a polygraph test.
  • 1:47 - 1:50
Knowing that the case against Oleg was falling into pieces,
  • 1:50 - 1:52
a crime investigator launched his time machine.
  • 1:52 - 1:55
He backdated the time when the crime occurred
  • 1:55 - 1:58
from 2 PM to 1:30 PM.
  • 1:58 - 2:00
The rest of the evidence is far-fetched as well.
  • 2:00 - 2:03
The criminal was wearing a white jacket, while Oleg only has a black puffer
  • 2:03 - 2:05
and never even had a white jacket.
  • 2:05 - 2:07
The criminal has black hair, while Oleg is blond
  • 2:07 - 2:08
and had a zero buzzcut during that time.
  • 2:08 - 2:12
The criminal has acne, and Oleg does not.
  • 2:12 - 2:16
And the most important thing is that the girl has already testified that she chose a wrong person during the line-up.
  • 2:16 - 2:17
Oleg was not the man who offended her.
  • 2:17 - 2:19
But prosecution does not want to listen to what the child is saying anymore.
  • 2:19 - 2:20
The wheels of prosecution are spinning full-force now,
  • 2:20 - 2:21
and they wont admit their mistakes.
  • 2:21 - 2:25
In the meantime, it has been 3 months since Oleg was incarcerated.
  • 2:25 - 2:28
The innocent man is behind the bars, while the criminal is walking free.
  • 2:28 - 2:30
We have to say "No!" to the arbitrariness of police.
  • 2:30 - 2:33
We shall go the rally against it in Krasnoyarsk.
  • 2:33 - 2:37
On May 19. On Saturday. At 2 PM.
  • 2:37 - 2:37
    At the Red Square.
  • 2:37 - 2:42
If you are not a trembling creature, but a good person, come join us.
  • 2:42 - 2:44
Anyone of us can be the next.
  • 2:44 - 2:46
I saw my son being handcuffed.
  • 2:46 - 2:51
That day he told me: "Mother, everything's going to be alright. I am innocent."
  • 2:51 - 2:53
I believe that my son is innocent.
  • 2:53 - 2:56
And I want to believe, that everything is going to be alright.
  • 2:56 - 3:01
Krasnoyarsk. May 19. 2 PM. The Red Square.
  • 3:01 - 3:03
Rally in support of Oleg Leontyev.
  • 3:03 - 3:05
    Let's say "No!" to unlawfulness!
  • 3:05 - 3:07
Rallies will also take place in other Russian cities.
