CSRPC Annual Public Lecture and CSGS Classics in Feminist Theory Series present Angela Y. Davis: Feminism and Abolition: Theories and Practices for the 21st Century.

This event is a collaboration between the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture (CSRPC) and the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality (CSGS). Davis' lecture culminates a year-long series on the theory and praxis of her work and re-inaugurates the CSRPC Annual Public Lecture.

I am Cathy Cohen, professor of political science

and former director of the centre for the study of race at the university of chicago.

and it is my honour and pleasure this evening to introduce our speaker Angela Davis.

Before i say a very brief introduction about angela

i want to thank a number of people and entities that made tonight possible.

first i wanna thank the centre for the study of race, politics and culture,

in particular a few staff members for the entire group.

and id like especially to say thanks to tracey matthews for being suhc a wonderful host

during my days in chicago...

of course ive known her since she was an undergraduate at the university of michigan,

and so its wonderful to spend time together again;

and of course to professor cathy cohen whom ive known for some time and have been involved in a number of struggles
