Apple - Mac 30 - Thirty years of innovation
-
0:01 - 0:05-In 1984, computing was just leaving the
-
0:05 - 0:08refrigerator, gigantic-room era.
-
0:09 - 0:11This Macintosh thing came out.
-
0:11 - 0:13I brought a Macintosh to MIT.
-
0:13 - 0:15All my upperclassmen are coming by
-
0:15 - 0:18and saying "What is that?
It's got pictures on it!" -
0:22 - 0:26-The Mac was reimagining
what a computer could be. -
0:26 - 0:28-There was a smiley face.
-
0:28 - 0:30There was a sense of
humor, somehow built. -
0:30 - 0:33Like this partner came in
you could go and play with. -
0:34 - 0:37-Somehow, it's so transparent
to an experience, -
0:38 - 0:40that it just enlivens you.
-
0:41 - 0:44-I never thought that I would
have a career as a musician, -
0:44 - 0:46I wanted to do everything myself,
-
0:46 - 0:48and the only way that was possible
-
0:48 - 0:49was with Mac.
-
0:51 - 0:53-Imagine how powerful
it was for the kids. -
0:53 - 0:56All of a sudden they were
discovering things by themselves. -
0:56 - 0:58It erases the classroom walls.
-
0:59 - 1:02-They could tell there
was a vision behind it. -
1:02 - 1:05-It inspired people to
think what's possible, -
1:05 - 1:07but that made people
do better work. -
1:09 - 1:11-It seemed to speak the same
language we were speaking. -
1:11 - 1:13It looked great, and it was elegant.
-
1:13 - 1:15It was naturally where all designers,
-
1:15 - 1:17and all image-makers would go.
-
1:17 - 1:18-The Mac for me is the tool to
-
1:18 - 1:21get my ideas out of my head,
-
1:21 - 1:23and to collaborate with people,
-
1:23 - 1:25to explore fields that I couldn't otherwise.
-
1:27 - 1:29-We were trying to use this machine
-
1:29 - 1:31in a really provocative and new way.
-
1:32 - 1:34And it was just really cool--
nobody else was doing it. -
1:34 - 1:36-This is what a pioneer looks like.
-
1:36 - 1:39-Everything I do could be done
-
1:39 - 1:41in a much more interesting
way, using the Macintosh. -
1:42 - 1:43All artists are like this.
-
1:43 - 1:45You give us a new paint box,
-
1:45 - 1:46and we're going to go crazy.
-
1:46 - 1:47We're not going to go to sleep.
-
1:47 - 1:49We're not going to go to eat.
-
1:49 - 1:51We're just going to go and
play with this thing, -
1:51 - 1:52because it's inspiring.
-
1:53 - 1:57-Now everyone uses this one piece
-
1:57 - 2:00of remarkable, ubiquitous technology.
-
2:00 - 2:03-I really never thought it would be this.
-
2:03 - 2:06Truly worldwide democratization of creativity.
-
2:07 - 2:09-The great power of tools like the Macintosh
-
2:09 - 2:12is precisely that you can't predict
-
2:12 - 2:14where they're going to go.
-
2:14 - 2:15-The future of creation,
-
2:15 - 2:18it's really bringing people together,
-
2:18 - 2:19and bringing ideas together.
-
2:29 - 2:31-Nobody had any idea
thirty years ago -
2:31 - 2:33what the world was
going to be like now, -
2:33 - 2:35or how these tools were
going to be used. -
2:35 - 2:38They are interesting, precisely because
-
2:38 - 2:40you don't know how they're
going to be used tomorrow. -
2:43 - 2:45And that's the beauty, and
the power of Macintosh.
