Hello, my name is Olga Belyaeva, I live in Ukraine.

I would like to tell you about the importance of the Global Fund programs in my life.

I was born in a city, which is an industrial center.
-
There were a lot of different possibilities in my city,
-
except for one – help for people who use drugs.
-
I resorted to different people, to different hospitals.
-
My family went through a terrible grief, my child was alone and desperate.
-
The situation had changed in the year 2004.
-
The Global Fund programs have brought to our country new technologies,
-
and it brought to Ukraine humanity. My life has been changed.
-
I became a participant of the Substitution Therapy program,
-
and it means that I could keep my family and my HIV-negative status,
-
I saved my son and my relationship with him.
-
Because of the Global Fund programs
-
more than 5500 people receive therapy in our country today.
-
And more people would like to receive this treatment.
-
Unfortunately, all the questions concerning drug addiction are very much political.
-
The government change affects attitudes towards our problem.
-
The Global Fund with its beliefs and values is steady,
-
and it uses only scientifically proved methods.
-
It is very important today to keep the Global Fund programs in Ukraine,
-
so that HIV-positive and drug addicted people could receive treatment.

Do you understand that it means life for us today?

With fear I think that if countries which give money
-
would find out some reasons to not finance the programs
-
I could be left without the treatment.
-
To stay without the treatment means not only to die physically,
-
but also to lose hope, to lose friends, to lose job.

The opportunity to be part of the wonderful and
-
vitally important Global Fund programs is very important for us today.

That is why I ask people who live in countries
-
which help to finance the Global Fund programs
-
to understand that it is life for us today, and we want to live tomorrow.
