How A.D.H.D. Feels

  • 0:00 - 0:02
    (humming a beat)
  • 0:04 - 0:07
    (trumpets rising in tone)
  • 0:07 - 0:08
    (surprised scream)
  • 0:08 - 0:09
    - You're back again, ha ha, I didn't think
  • 0:09 - 0:11
    you were gonna come.
    (loudly chewing)
  • 0:11 - 0:12
    Popcorn.
  • 0:12 - 0:14
So, you want to get in to the mind
  • 0:14 - 0:16
of an ADHD'er. Hmmm. Yes I'm
  • 0:16 - 0:18
    eating popcorn through my vlog.
  • 0:18 - 0:19
    (loudly chewing)
  • 0:19 - 0:20
    That's rude.
  • 0:20 - 0:21
You want to know what it's like
  • 0:21 - 0:22
to be in the head of an ADHD'er.
  • 0:22 - 0:23
First you have to make sure that you're
  • 0:23 - 0:24
    talking to somebody
    that actually has ADHD.
  • 0:24 - 0:26
You might be wondering to yourself,
  • 0:26 - 0:27
How do you know if an ADHD'er is actually
  • 0:27 - 0:28
an ADHD'er or an ADD or whatever
  • 0:28 - 0:29
they want to call it because I'm not
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    really quite sure what the
  • 0:31 - 0:32
    differences are anymore.
  • 0:32 - 0:33
If you've ever seen this person say,
  • 0:33 - 0:36
"I'm bored," sure fire way not ADHD.
  • 0:36 - 0:39
    For an example, I look
    at this piece of popcorn,
  • 0:39 - 0:42
that just hit me in the face.
    (laughs)
  • 0:42 - 0:43
It's got all kinds sides, all kinds
  • 0:43 - 0:44
of colors, all kinds of smells.
  • 0:44 - 0:46
All of your senses are constantly going
  • 0:46 - 0:48
    "What the hell is that?"
    and then you eat it.
  • 0:48 - 0:49
The thought is no longer there.
  • 0:49 - 0:51
    Alright. That doesn't
    really apply to anything
  • 0:51 - 0:52
but that piece of popcorn was good and
  • 0:52 - 0:54
it was a good excuse to eat it.
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    Perfect example right there.
  • 0:55 - 0:57
We are now completely off topic.
  • 0:57 - 0:59
I, in fact, do have ADHD.
    (bells and whistles going off)
  • 0:59 - 1:00
I was diagnosed when I was
  • 1:00 - 1:01
    younger and I tried Ritalin.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
    Ritalin didn't really do anything
  • 1:03 - 1:04
aside of make me not want to eat.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
I find that a lot of
    the people that I know
  • 1:06 - 1:08
that have strong cases of ADHD
  • 1:08 - 1:09
    also have OCD, which is
  • 1:09 - 1:10
    Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
  • 1:10 - 1:12
Here's an example of something that
  • 1:12 - 1:13
I thought of when I was a kid.
  • 1:13 - 1:14
I was sitting at the table and
  • 1:14 - 1:15
    I was watching a movie.
  • 1:15 - 1:16
There was a piece of popcorn here,
  • 1:16 - 1:17
and a piece of popcorn here.
  • 1:17 - 1:19
    (slide whistle playing)
  • 1:19 - 1:20
    Better.
  • 1:20 - 1:21
There was two piece of popcorn,
  • 1:21 - 1:24
    do you think it would
    bother anybody on the planet
  • 1:24 - 1:25
to sit in-between two pieces of popcorn?
  • 1:25 - 1:27
No, if it was two balls
    of fire that were melting
  • 1:27 - 1:29
your skin, okay you might want to move.
  • 1:29 - 1:30
Me, on the other hand, it just drove
  • 1:30 - 1:31
me nuts that there was no other
  • 1:31 - 1:32
pieces of popcorn in the room and
  • 1:32 - 1:34
    I was sitting in-between them.
  • 1:34 - 1:35
Secondly, I thought no big deal,
  • 1:35 - 1:37
I'm just going to move over.
  • 1:37 - 1:38
So I move over, then I realized the edge
  • 1:38 - 1:40
of the coffee table is directly
  • 1:40 - 1:45
in-line with my face. No big deal.
  • 1:45 - 1:47
    Or is it!?
  • 1:47 - 1:49
It, in fact, is a big
deal and I'm not sure why.
  • 1:49 - 1:50
But it's just one of those things that
  • 1:50 - 1:51
    comes with having OCD.
  • 1:51 - 1:53
I think the part of me that has OCD
  • 1:53 - 1:55
wants me to be more organized
  • 1:55 - 1:56
but the problem is the ADHD part is
  • 1:56 - 1:58
a lot stronger and forcing me to
  • 1:58 - 1:59
forget that I was even thinking that
  • 1:59 - 2:00
    in the first place.
    (loudly chewing)
  • 2:00 - 2:02
    Popcorn!
    (laughs)
  • 2:02 - 2:03
    I intended to make this
    vlog about something
  • 2:03 - 2:04
completely different than what it is,
  • 2:04 - 2:06
and then I decided to scrap that idea
  • 2:06 - 2:08
    because I thought it was
    time to discuss ADHD.
  • 2:08 - 2:09
I didn't want to be one of those people
  • 2:09 - 2:10
on the internet saying I have ADHD
  • 2:10 - 2:12
    and not actually have ADHD,
  • 2:12 - 2:14
so just to let you know I have ADHD
  • 2:14 - 2:17
I actually have a letter from my doctor.
  • 2:17 - 2:18
    That's a receipt, but it doesn't
  • 2:18 - 2:20
really matter because I can't really
  • 2:20 - 2:21
show you it in person anyways.
  • 2:21 - 2:23
I'm going to try to tell you, the viewer,
  • 2:23 - 2:24
    (horn honking)
  • 2:24 - 2:26
Here's an example. I'm going to try
  • 2:26 - 2:27
    to tell...wowzers.
    (horn honking)
  • 2:27 - 2:29
I'm going to try that 19 times apparently.
  • 2:29 - 2:30
    (laughing sarcastically)
  • 2:30 - 2:32
This was just a vlog that's going
  • 2:32 - 2:33
to be insanely impossible to edit
  • 2:33 - 2:34
because none of the ideas that
  • 2:34 - 2:35
I had coincided with any other
  • 2:35 - 2:36
ideas and it's just going to be
  • 2:36 - 2:37
a rambling mess, it's not going
  • 2:37 - 2:38
to make any sense at all, and it's
  • 2:38 - 2:39
probably going to take me like
  • 2:39 - 2:43
10 hours to edit it. Thanks a lot brain.
  • 2:43 - 2:45
    We'll see you next week.
  • 2:45 - 2:47
For those of you that don't have
  • 2:47 - 2:48
    a youtube account, please make
  • 2:48 - 2:50
    a youtube account then subscribe
  • 2:50 - 2:51
to the videos, then like the videos,
  • 2:51 - 2:53
then rate the videos and all of
  • 2:53 - 2:56
those things together will make me happy.
  • 2:56 - 3:00
    (intense drum beat)
  • 3:00 - 3:02
    And apparently make me
  • 3:02 - 3:04
do a really long freeze frame.
  • 3:04 - 3:05
    (laughing and sighing).
  • 3:08 - 3:12
    (applause)
