I've also got another phone here made by a company called Geeksphone in Spain. 0:00:50.000,0:00:53.000 They've built some of the developer phones that developers have been using. 0:00:53.000,0:00:58.000 Ok, so what you're going to see is everything a user would expect in a great smartphone experience. 0:00:58.000,0:01:02.000 I'm going to show you how developers can use HTML 5 to build amazing things 0:01:02.000,0:01:06.000 and also show you something new that really breaks down the barrier 0:01:06.000,0:01:11.000 between the web and apps to give users a great, a great new experience. 0:01:11.000,0:01:16.000 So this is the TCL Alcatel phone running Firefox OS. 0:01:16.000,0:01:18.000 So, we're going to unlock the phone. 0:01:20.000,0:01:25.000 And what you'll see immediately is you've got your telephone, you've got your sms, 0:01:25.000,0:01:29.000 you can get on the web with Firefox and we have Facebook bundled with the device. 0:01:29.000,0:01:34.000 Now, you can swipe over and you'll see a bunch of my commonly used applications. 0:01:34.000,0:01:35.000 Some of these are pre-installed 0:01:35.000,0:01:39.000 and some of these I downloaded from the Firefox marketplace. 0:01:39.000,0:01:42.000 So let's take a look at some of the basics. 0:01:42.000,0:01:45.000 I've got the Firefox Marketplace, we have email client of course. 0:01:45.000,0:01:47.000 Let's pull out the contacts. 0:01:47.000,0:01:51.000 So what you'll see is that we've embedded social deeply into this device, 0:01:51.000,0:01:53.000 because as people get online, 0:01:53.000,0:01:55.000 I'm sure they want to call and send each other text messages, 0:01:55.000,0:01:59.000 but they're also deeply involved with Facebook and Twitter and other social applications. 0:01:59.000,0:02:03.000 So what you'll see is, you know, I've been able to import my Facebook contacts 0:02:03.000,0:02:05.000 so that associates a picture with every contact, 0:02:05.000,0:02:09.000 and in addition to, you know, simply making a phone call, which I can do, 0:02:09.000,0:02:14.000 I can also go ahead and post on someone's wall or send him a Facebook message. 0:02:14.000,0:02:17.000 So, now I'm in airplane mode, I'm going to unlock the phone. 0:02:17.000,0:02:20.000 Anyway, a lot of things that I want to do when I'm on the go, 0:02:20.000,0:02:22.000 whether it's getting to my music 0:02:22.000,0:02:25.000 or browse through my albums there, 0:02:25.000,0:02:28.000 or looking at my family photos, I can do those things 0:02:28.000,0:02:32.000 even though I am disconnected, so that's really important. 0:02:32.000,0:02:34.000 So what I'm going to show you is something we're building 0:02:34.000,0:02:37.000 that really breaks down the walls between the web and apps. 0:02:37.000,0:02:40.000 The web is great because it gives you instant access to all the information out there 0:02:40.000,0:02:44.000 and apps are great because they have a beautiful, easy-to-use form factor. 0:02:44.000,0:02:48.000 So we looked at what can you do if you combine what's great about those two things. 0:02:48.000,0:02:52.000 I'm going to swipe to the left here and I'm going to do a search. 0:02:52.000,0:02:54.000 Let me search for the movie Skyfall. 0:02:54.000,0:02:58.000 And what you'll see is that my phone immediately transforms itself. 0:02:58.000,0:03:00.000 Now it's all about movies, it's really dynamic. 0:03:00.000,0:03:03.000 So I get access to, you know, movie review websites, 0:03:03.000,0:03:08.000 I can buy tickets with Fandango, I can read about it on Wikipedia, IMDB. 0:03:08.000,0:03:13.000 What's interesting here is I may never have seen those applications before. 0:03:13.000,0:03:15.000 They're shown to me in real time based on what I care about. 0:03:15.000,0:03:21.000 So this is a really new way of thinking about how the web meets apps to give you something new and amazing. 0:03:21.000,0:03:25.000 And you're going to love this because it's instant gratification based on what you want and when you want it. 0:03:25.000,0:03:29.000 However, we do have a standard marketplace that users are going to expect 0:03:29.000,0:03:35.000 and that's going to give developers a place to submit their apps to get discovery, ratings and reviews, etc., 0:03:35.000,0:03:40.000 and I'll show you that on the ZTE phone. It's called the Firefox Marketplace. 0:03:40.000,0:03:47.000 Firefox Marketplace has everything a user expects in terms of categories, ratings, reviews, discovery. 0:03:47.000,0:03:51.000 But what's important about our model, is that you don't have to use the Firefox Marketplace. 0:03:51.000,0:03:56.000 We expect there to be multiple marketplaces and in the spirit of complete openness, 0:03:56.000,0:04:01.000 any developer can distribute an app directly to users without using a market place at all. 0:04:02.000,0:04:07.000 And we think that's a very important web principle that's going to make innovation happen all over the place. 0:04:07.000,0:04:09.000 So that's Firefox Marketplace. 0:04:09.000,0:04:13.000 So, thanks for watching. I think it's a really big day for Firefox OS. 0:04:13.000,0:04:15.000 We introduced a whole set of network operator partners, 0:04:15.000,0:04:20.000 OEMs, chips app vendors and app developers, and there's a lot more to come. 0:04:20.000,0:04:24.000 So keep your eyes on Firefox OS. It's going to be amazing.
