WEBVTT 00:00:01.000 --> 00:00:06.000 Produced by the Pirates of Donostia NOTE Paragraph 00:00:20.000 --> 00:00:30.000 I am very proud to see so many people looking so happy 00:00:32.000 --> 00:00:38.000 Happy birthday Pirates! 00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:46.000 If you don't really don't know, this is Ska. 00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:48.000 If they would have asked us in August 2003 00:00:48.000 --> 00:00:51.000 What we started what would become ten years later 00:00:51.000 --> 00:00:54.000 we wouldn't know answering that question 00:00:54.000 --> 00:00:56.000 But nowadays the answer is clear 00:00:56.000 --> 00:00:58.000 I have no doubt about the answer 00:00:58.000 --> 00:01:01.000 shoveling once and again, we have boarded Donostia 00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:04.000 congratulations to everybody! 00:01:34.000 --> 00:01:41.000 Be pirate! 00:01:41.000 --> 00:01:45.000 We're pirates because they have left us out of the proclamations 00:01:45.000 --> 00:01:48.000 they have condemn us to obtain the treasure by ourselves 00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:49.000 They left us out of the Aste Nagusia 00:01:49.000 --> 00:01:53.000 but we have returned and we're prepared to remain 00:01:53.000 --> 00:01:56.000 Be Pirate, board San Sebastian! 00:01:56.000 --> 00:01:58.000 Why pirates? 00:01:58.000 --> 00:02:03.000 Because we needed a person who was rebel 00:02:03.000 --> 00:02:06.000 we needed a person related to the sea 00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:08.000 related to Donostia 00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:11.000 the bay would be its square 00:02:11.000 --> 00:02:16.000 and he/she would express in there 00:02:16.000 --> 00:02:19.000 these characteristics were perfectly defined by the pirates 00:02:19.000 --> 00:02:23.000 The image of pirates is seen as something negative 00:02:23.000 --> 00:02:27.000 but it has a very big symbolic meaning for me 00:02:27.000 --> 00:02:36.000 it goes against those roles that are established, against the stereotypes and duties 00:02:36.000 --> 00:02:39.000 something to change a bit. 00:02:39.000 --> 00:02:46.000 I think it is a reasonable fight 00:02:47.000 --> 00:02:51.000 to the organizer of the Aste Nagusia in 2003 00:02:51.000 --> 00:02:54.000 a big event started to break in front of their faces 00:02:54.000 --> 00:02:57.000 it starts from a very simple question 00:02:57.000 --> 00:03:00.000 What happens in this city 00:03:00.000 --> 00:03:04.000 the festivals in august to be in this way 00:03:09.000 --> 00:03:13.000 The Aste Nagusia we know today 00:03:13.000 --> 00:03:16.000 it wasn't called 'Aste Nagusia' in basque, it was only named 'Semana Grande' in spanish 00:03:16.000 --> 00:03:19.000 and few events were carried out throughout it 00:03:19.000 --> 00:03:22.000 the most important ones, as always, the fireworks at night 00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:32.000 The Aste Nagusia was something just to see for us 00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:38.000 we had a sandwich, went for a walk... there were some parades and concerts and that was all. 00:03:38.000 --> 00:03:39.000 that was our party. 00:03:45.000 --> 00:03:49.000 it was a totally mercantilist model 00:03:49.000 --> 00:03:57.000 really, that was the way the Aste Nagusia was created in the XIX century, in the 1880th 00:03:57.000 --> 00:04:03.000 Jose Arana, from Eskoriatza, did this event to become real 00:04:03.000 --> 00:04:06.000 he come to live to Donosti when he was very young 00:04:06.000 --> 00:04:10.000 from Donostia he went on a trip to Madrid 00:04:10.000 --> 00:04:14.000 there he won the lottery and he returned to Donosti being rich 00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:18.000 that's why he started to organize the bullfighters festivals and the concerts 00:04:18.000 --> 00:04:23.000 continuing with his business logic 00:04:23.000 --> 00:04:28.000 On that years, Donostia was becoming quite famous 00:04:28.000 --> 00:04:34.000 In a great part, because Maria Cristina ,the Queen of spain, selected the beach of La Concha as her place for holiday 00:04:34.000 --> 00:04:40.000 After Maria Cristina, many aristrocrats from Madrid also came to this surroundings 00:04:40.000 --> 00:04:44.000 in that way, the Semana Grande was created in august 00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:47.000 before in august i think that at first it was organized in july 00:04:47.000 --> 00:04:51.000 but, the businessman and Josu Arana realized that 00:04:51.000 --> 00:04:57.000 the business would be much bigger if the festival was organized in august 00:04:57.000 --> 00:05:00.000 And well, we have to say it clear, to do that 00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:06.000 they sent to the periphery all the other festivities that were cellebrated in the center and the Old Town of Donostia. 00:05:06.000 --> 00:05:14.000 so that the comercial model and that kind of mercantilist festival would have free space. 00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:20.000 They have reproduced that model year-by-year, decade-by-decade 00:05:20.000 --> 00:05:26.000 during Franco times that logic of cellebrating increased completely, 00:05:26.000 --> 00:05:30.000 Franco died, and all the next municipal governments 00:05:30.000 --> 00:05:35.000 have kept the model completely. 00:05:39.000 --> 00:05:43.000 That model has been what specific powers have used 00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:50.000 to sustein a concrete image they wanted to relate with the city 00:05:50.000 --> 00:05:57.000 and in the last years it was very clear when more and more private businesses NOTE Paragraph 00:05:57.000 --> 00:06:03.000 were taking part in the organization of the Big Week. 00:06:03.000 --> 00:06:08.000 And that way we began conversations with the CAT (municipal organ, Centro Atracción y Turismo) 00:06:08.000 --> 00:06:10.000 and the city hall 00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:13.000 And we created what is called the Popular Comision of the Festivities. 00:06:13.000 --> 00:06:16.000 'Jai Herrikoi Batzordea', in Basque. 00:06:16.000 --> 00:06:21.000 That way, with these conversations we wanted to work on our intentions. 00:06:21.000 --> 00:06:28.000 In Donoststia iw was not assumed that people could enjoy autonomously in the festival 00:06:28.000 --> 00:06:34.000 everything was very measured and thought from the municipal entity 00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:36.000 and they would decide what kind of Festival it would be done. 00:06:36.000 --> 00:06:41.000 The people were mere spectator of the party. 00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:48.000 In Donostia there have been several tries to change that feeling of just beeing spectator 00:06:48.000 --> 00:06:52.000 people have tried to open new paths to that popular participation in the party. 00:06:52.000 --> 00:06:55.000 They have tried to make txoznas (Basque popular bars, related to social movements) 00:06:55.000 --> 00:07:04.000 they have organized alternative programs to face the oficial program imposed from the City Hall 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:11.000 all that from the 'Transition' to now has been.. and what to say during Franco's times 00:07:11.000 --> 00:07:17.000 all these tries were sistematicaly attacked from the municipal government 00:07:17.000 --> 00:07:22.000 and of course, it is controlled by the right of the city. 00:07:22.000 --> 00:07:26.000 Since then, they have tried to eliminate any trace of popular party 00:07:26.000 --> 00:07:31.000 We had a bad beginning in 1983, when Alkain was the mayor; 00:07:31.000 --> 00:07:36.000 we put a temporary bar, a "txozna" in the Boulevard, and he sent some local policemen to take it away 00:07:36.000 --> 00:07:42.000 In the following years, 1984, 1885 and 1986, we continued talking to the city council 00:07:42.000 --> 00:07:45.000 and we kept moving forward 00:07:45.000 --> 00:07:50.000 I have good memories from the 1986,when we came to an agreement with Labaien 00:07:50.000 --> 00:07:58.000 he gave us all the permits for the concertsthat we used to organise in the port; 00:07:58.000 --> 00:08:02.000 we got 4,000-5,000 people to be at the concerts, 00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:07.000 something inconceivable at that time, a great number 00:08:07.000 --> 00:08:10.000 And that is when our decline began, 00:08:10.000 --> 00:08:17.000 when the city council saw that we were taking shape 00:08:17.000 --> 00:08:21.000 and that we were, in some way, overshadowing the official programme, 00:08:21.000 --> 00:08:24.000 they saw the risk 00:08:24.000 --> 00:08:31.000 they said that our alternative proposal covered the official programme. 00:08:31.000 --> 00:08:34.000 And then, they started to ban it again 00:08:34.000 --> 00:08:40.000 But the worst moment and the hardest was the year 1988, 00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:48.000 when Albistur was the mayor; they set the objective not to let us the port 00:08:48.000 --> 00:08:52.000 they didn't let us be there; they told us that we couldn't set up anything there 00:08:52.000 --> 00:08:59.000 we thought that they would change their mind at the last moment, as they did other times, 00:08:59.000 --> 00:09:03.000 and when we came to set up our "txozna" and our place, 00:09:03.000 --> 00:09:06.000 just there, under that building, 00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:11.000 it was where we found the tremendous surprise 00:09:11.000 --> 00:09:22.000 about 40 local policemen showed up there, with their dogs, ball guns, helmets and shields, 00:09:22.000 --> 00:09:24.000 something we had never seen 00:09:24.000 --> 00:09:29.000 the local police equipped as riot police 00:09:29.000 --> 00:09:35.000 and when we started to set up everything 00:09:35.000 --> 00:09:42.000 they charged against us and a great fight began here, in Portaletas 00:09:42.000 --> 00:09:49.000 many people were injured, some women were hit by the balls 00:09:49.000 --> 00:09:55.000 other young people had their forehead and nose broken by the truncheon blows 00:09:55.000 --> 00:10:01.000 and it is said that some local policemen were also injured; 00:10:01.000 --> 00:10:04.000 it was a tremendous fight, after all; 00:10:04.000 --> 00:10:11.000 in fact, Donostia had never seen such a confrontation between the citizens and the police 00:10:11.000 --> 00:10:17.000 That led, of course, to the following repression, 00:10:17.000 --> 00:10:23.000 where 12 members of the commission were threatened 00:10:23.000 --> 00:10:28.000 to go to jail for 16 months, but, finally, the judge rejected it 00:10:28.000 --> 00:10:34.000 at least we resisted there that day; we managed to set up the "txozna" 00:10:34.000 --> 00:10:36.000 we managed to carry out our programme 00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:39.000 but, in the end, it happened what we thought 00:10:39.000 --> 00:10:50.000 At dawn, the 'Beltzak' came (the riot squad of the Ertzaina),I think it was their first intervention in Donostia 00:10:50.000 --> 00:10:55.000 they came in many vans, dressed totally as riot police, 00:10:55.000 --> 00:11:02.000 and we were not in a position to face them;it was neither our objective. 00:11:02.000 --> 00:11:10.000 they took away all the material we had, and they confiscated it 00:11:10.000 --> 00:11:15.000 The following days, we made some kinds of leaps, 00:11:15.000 --> 00:11:18.000 we used to set up the "txozna" at the Boulevard at six o'clock in the evening, 00:11:18.000 --> 00:11:21.000 and we used to last ther until 2-3 o'clock in the morning. 00:11:21.000 --> 00:11:25.000 when we dismantle the everithing, to avoid losing it 00:11:25.000 --> 00:11:28.000 and, in this way, we used to assemble and dismantle everything everyday. 00:11:28.000 --> 00:11:31.000 It was an exhaustion for us, 00:11:31.000 --> 00:11:36.000 but we managed to keep firm our flag. 00:11:36.000 --> 00:11:41.000 Besides, we saw that the city council not only was willing to ban it, 00:11:41.000 --> 00:11:44.000 but also to attack the citizens, 00:11:44.000 --> 00:11:51.000 and that it would be difficult to overcome that situation. 00:11:51.000 --> 00:11:53.000 That situation led us almost to the nothingness 00:11:53.000 --> 00:11:58.000 to those few things that the city council used to organise 00:11:58.000 --> 00:12:06.000 and although the citizens used to organise themselves for other fields, they gave in as far as the Aste Nagusia was concerned 00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:09.000 due to all those happenings. 00:12:09.000 --> 00:12:15.000 Some years passed, and I don't remember exactly when, 00:12:15.000 --> 00:12:20.000 but I think it was in 1990 or 1992, there was a sort of resurrection. 00:12:20.000 --> 00:12:23.000 New people came to join us, with new purposes. 00:12:23.000 --> 00:12:27.000 These people tried to keep and revive 00:12:27.000 --> 00:12:35.000 the spirit of the Aste Nagusia and Herriko Jai Batzordea,by means of the "koadrilak" (groups of friends). 00:12:35.000 --> 00:12:39.000 They got some results, and they were there for some years, 00:12:39.000 --> 00:12:45.000 until we got in some way to this moment. 00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:49.000 The party is important, so that the people can break the routine, 00:12:49.000 --> 00:12:56.000 the dayly routine, the work, everything that anyone does in an ordinary day. 00:12:56.000 --> 00:13:05.000 During the week , we have only some standard relationships, normalized relationships 00:13:10.000 --> 00:13:12.000 The party breaks the monotony 00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:19.000 the party breaks the way to understand life in a ritual way 00:13:19.000 --> 00:13:27.000 the party is important, specially, as a counterweight to that standardisation 00:13:27.000 --> 00:13:33.000 the political and economic power have standardized our lifestyle 00:13:33.000 --> 00:13:39.000 the party is that necessary counterweight and that mental hygiene of the people, 00:13:39.000 --> 00:13:48.000 so that the people can scape from the everyday life and understand that life has something more 00:13:48.000 --> 00:13:55.000 That we can meet each other and talk calmly, without so many regulations. 00:13:58.000 --> 00:14:05.000 What we are watching now is as important as "basque pelota" for the basque people 00:14:05.000 --> 00:14:09.000 this is the Fandango, the famous Fandango 00:14:09.000 --> 00:14:15.000 in the 90s there were some other attempts 00:14:15.000 --> 00:14:21.000 It is truth that, by then, the relationship between the city council and the party comission was not really good 00:54:10.000 --> 00:54:13.000 I was at work, in a bar and Barela called me. 00:56:19.000 --> 00:56:22.000 For me Pirates are many things 00:56:22.000 --> 00:56:24.000 I don´t know how to explain it. 00:56:24.000 --> 00:56:28.000 I was 15-16 and I had taken part in some games before... 00:56:28.000 --> 00:56:33.000 with my neighbours, they called me and said "come to the games" and I went and play in those games and took part in the Aste Nagusia 00:56:33.000 --> 00:56:35.000 I took part in some activities organized by Pirates, but that was all 00:56:35.000 --> 00:56:39.000 I was 15-16 and one day I was in the Old Part and a friend told me: 00:14:52.000 --> 00:14:59.000 and there are two elements; I will talk specially about two of them 00:14:59.000 --> 00:15:04.000 on the one hand the bar tenders, which is a sector of the Old Part who felt that dissatisfaction 00:15:04.000 --> 00:15:07.000 I guess it is because as bartenders it has an influence on them 00:15:07.000 --> 00:15:11.000 but also because they were part of the popular movements 00:15:11.000 --> 00:15:15.000 and they wanted the party in Donosti to be popular and with its own identity. 00:15:15.000 --> 00:15:21.000 That is why they started to do little things like preparing lunches, games between groups of friends... 00:15:21.000 --> 00:15:25.000 When the bartenders started organising activities, the young people were not at the organisation yet. 00:15:25.000 --> 00:15:29.000 We started to organise activities on the street Ikatz. 00:15:29.000 --> 00:15:32.000 We were told that each bar had to organise a game: 00:15:32.000 --> 00:15:38.000 the game of four people walking on two skis, to take an egg in the air and games like that... 00:15:49.000 --> 00:15:56.000 We organised the "Euskal Bizikleta" (Basque Bicycle) with children's bikes. 00:16:00.000 --> 00:16:08.000 I remember it was something that we created the bartenders in the bars, 00:16:08.000 --> 00:16:17.000 and then, little by little the teamwork of some gaztetxes (occupied social centers) and the Gazte Asanblada (the youth assembly) resulted in the creation of the Pirates. 00:16:32.000 --> 00:16:38.000 It was a group of young people, really imaginative, and with new ideas, 00:16:38.000 --> 00:16:44.000 who had this feeling of mediocrity of the Aste Nagusia and this impossibility of orgainising a real party 00:16:44.000 --> 00:16:46.000 and who wanted to change all that. 00:16:46.000 --> 00:16:52.000 That is when, these two elements united and this is the result: Piratak. 00:16:52.000 --> 00:16:56.000 There is not Aste Nagusia without the donostiarrak (the inhabitants of Donostia). 00:16:56.000 --> 00:17:01.000 It is impossible to hide the memory of a city and it's desire to party. 00:17:01.000 --> 00:17:10.000 The treasure of this party is obvious and the desire to recover that treasure has gained strenth again. 00:17:10.000 --> 00:17:13.000 Let's do the boarding all together! 00:17:13.000 --> 00:17:19.000 Let's do the Aste Nagusia together! Long live the Pirates! 00:17:24.000 --> 00:17:29.000 Therefore, we needed a main activity, and that was 'The Boarding', without any doubt. 00:17:32.000 --> 00:17:35.000 And we went out to sea. 00:17:35.000 --> 00:17:42.000 We took the sea as the field of work and battle, for two main reasons: 00:17:42.000 --> 00:17:47.000 On the one hand, because we saw that if we wanted to change the party in Donosti 00:17:47.000 --> 00:17:52.000 we would need an element which we, the Donostiarrak, had relationship with, 00:17:52.000 --> 00:17:58.000 and we saw, clearly, that if something makes Donostia different, that is the sea. 00:17:58.000 --> 00:18:04.000 So, it was clear for us that everything that we organised, would be completely related to the sea. 00:18:04.000 --> 00:18:12.000 And, on the other hand, we realised that there was a bureaucratic vacuum in the administration with regard to the sea. 00:18:12.000 --> 00:18:17.000 specially, between the competences of the city council, the basque government and other public administrations 00:18:17.000 --> 00:18:22.000 and yes, we used that vacuum to develop our project 00:18:22.000 --> 00:18:25.000 That is why we suggested the boarding 00:18:25.000 --> 00:18:29.000 The boarding had a clear logic: 00:18:29.000 --> 00:18:33.000 we needed an activity that would join the party and the demands, 00:18:33.000 --> 00:18:36.000 that would be built over three main bases: 00:18:36.000 --> 00:18:44.000 The first one was the disobedience; we, as citizens, shouldn't ask permission to take part in out party. 00:18:44.000 --> 00:18:51.000 Therefore, it was a strong decisicion to celebrate that activity without asking for permission. 00:18:51.000 --> 00:18:54.000 The second one was the humour. 00:18:54.000 --> 00:19:00.000 We saw that the imagination had to be linked to the humour, in order to spread our message 00:19:00.000 --> 00:19:05.000 and in order to break that severity that transmitted the Aste Nagusia at that moment 00:19:05.000 --> 00:19:08.000 And the third one, of course, the participation. 00:19:08.000 --> 00:19:13.000 It had to be an event where as many people as possible could participate 00:19:16.000 --> 00:19:18.000 It started with that humbleness. 00:19:18.000 --> 00:19:26.000 That first year, only around 10, 15 or 20 rafts gathered, I don't remember exactly how many 00:19:26.000 --> 00:19:29.000 I remember that I was there 00:19:38.000 --> 00:19:40.000 It had an attraction, it was a success. 00:19:42.000 --> 00:19:44.000 We got it right, we had guessed right what the people really wanted 00:19:44.000 --> 00:20:01.000 "Drop anchor, down the bow..." 00:20:06.000 --> 00:20:08.000 Pirates are nice people. 00:20:08.000 --> 00:20:15.000 At the beginning, I remember that the first year the local police was waiting for them to arrest them 00:20:15.000 --> 00:20:21.000 I remember that when we finished the first boarding at the beach of La Concha 00:20:21.000 --> 00:20:24.000 the local police came to us, asking for documentation. 00:20:24.000 --> 00:20:27.000 We told them that we didn't have any documentation, 00:20:27.000 --> 00:20:32.000 and, next, they told us that we couldn't leave the remains of the rafts there. 00:20:32.000 --> 00:20:41.000 And, in the end, we held a meeting just there, and we decided to leave the rafts, in front of the city hall as a protest. 00:20:41.000 --> 00:20:45.000 We had many problems to carry that out, 00:20:45.000 --> 00:20:51.000 because from the city council and from the CAT they raised a huge number of obstacles and problems. 00:20:51.000 --> 00:20:56.000 But, little by little, when the Gazte Asanblada (Youth assembly) took charge of that work, 00:20:56.000 --> 00:21:01.000 that is when, with a good organisation, we succeeded in bringing forward this activity, 00:21:01.000 --> 00:21:06.000 "Local bosses and tyrants rowing in the galleys" 00:21:06.000 --> 00:21:13.000 "The Pirates' flag on the mast of the city hall..." 00:21:14.000 --> 00:21:22.000 At first, this movement started as something very informal; we were a group of friends. 00:21:22.000 --> 00:21:28.000 The second year, there was an ebolution, the third year a growth. 00:21:28.000 --> 00:21:32.000 We can say that when the fifth year came we gained recognition. 00:21:32.000 --> 00:21:33.000 The party was established completely. 00:21:55.000 --> 00:22:01.000 The party carried on, year after year, and what we organised had more and more success. 00:22:01.000 --> 00:22:06.000 And we realised that the donostiarras, 00:22:06.000 --> 00:22:11.000 and the citizens that take part in the program Pirates, 00:22:11.000 --> 00:22:16.000 need an image, an image to identify with. 00:22:16.000 --> 00:22:22.000 In 2007, we presented for the first time the character "Ezkila Kapitaina" (the captain Ezkila) 00:22:22.000 --> 00:22:27.000 In order to creat Ezkila Kapitaina, first of all, we looked back in history, 00:22:27.000 --> 00:22:31.000 we analised and read the history of Donostia, 00:22:31.000 --> 00:22:34.000 and we realised that some centuries ago 00:22:34.000 --> 00:22:40.000 Donostia was an important pirate port or, at least, an important corsair port. 00:22:40.000 --> 00:22:47.000 We started to become interested in characters, and we discovered among the characters, a pirate known as "Campanario" 00:22:47.000 --> 00:22:53.000 With a clumsy playword, we turned the spanish word "Campanario" into the basque word "Ezkila" 00:22:53.000 --> 00:23:00.000 and that is how "Ezkila Kapitaina" became the main image and icon of the Pirates of Donostia 00:23:00.000 --> 00:23:04.000 And an image that year after year gets more famous. 00:23:04.000 --> 00:23:08.000 Congratulations! 00:23:08.000 --> 00:23:12.000 Congratulations one more time, as we said on saturday, for having boarded Donostia. 00:23:16.000 --> 00:23:20.000 Congratulations for all the work. 00:23:20.000 --> 00:23:25.000 This kind of iniciative requires an almost professional organisation. 00:23:25.000 --> 00:23:38.000 It starts on January; we make an evaluation of last year and we propose new ideas for the next year. 00:23:38.000 --> 00:23:41.000 We talk, we reach some agreements and we consider them. 00:23:41.000 --> 00:23:44.000 Because all the material, all the waste that heap up there 00:23:48.000 --> 00:23:52.000 It is necessary the work of about 200 people. 00:23:52.000 --> 00:23:56.000 To tell the truth, people work almost 24 hours. 00:23:56.000 --> 00:24:03.000 Maybe the most visible work during the party is the one of being serving at the bar. 00:24:03.000 --> 00:24:09.000 or the security at the concerts, but, actually, both before the Aste Nagusia, 00:24:09.000 --> 00:24:12.000 during the Aste Nagusia, or after, there is a lot of work to do. 00:24:12.000 --> 00:24:20.000 For example, we start setting up the tent two days before; 00:24:20.000 --> 00:24:27.000 one week before, we hold a meeting among all the groups of friends to organise all the duties and responsibilities 00:24:27.000 --> 00:24:32.000 They might seem superficial, but apart from that work there are a lot of things to do while the people are partying 00:24:32.000 --> 00:24:37.000 there is a lot of cleaning to do, in order to leave everything ready for the next day. 00:24:37.000 --> 00:24:43.000 Some hours before the concerts, they must do the sound check, give the dinner to the groups, 00:24:43.000 --> 00:24:50.000 and after the Aste Nagusia, it comes the dismantling. 00:24:50.000 --> 00:24:56.000 Everything must be dismantled, to leave all the areas as they were before or better. 00:24:56.000 --> 00:25:03.000 Then, there are meetings to see where we have failed, what can be improved, 00:25:03.000 --> 00:25:09.000 in order to make improvements facing the coming years. 00:25:09.000 --> 00:25:14.000 By the time we realised, we had a programme for the whole week, 00:25:14.000 --> 00:25:20.000 and, at that time, a debate was created inside the Pirates about the new model of organisation. 00:25:20.000 --> 00:25:27.000 In this new model, anyone or any group can organise anything. 00:25:27.000 --> 00:25:35.000 As more and more groups of friends were taking part, it was the moment to create a "Kofradia". 00:25:35.000 --> 00:25:40.000 To gather all the groups and to organise games and activities for young people. 00:25:40.000 --> 00:25:49.000 And to organise a programme specially for ourselves, inside this new organisation. 00:25:49.000 --> 00:25:55.000 It is amazing to see that what it was created in a bar 00:25:55.000 --> 00:25:59.000 has now reached this point.. 00:25:59.000 --> 00:26:03.000 The boarding starts at 5 o'clock in the morning, 00:26:08.000 --> 00:26:11.000 and it lasts the whole day, until the night. 00:26:17.000 --> 00:26:24.000 It starts at the port, and, to follow an order from the beginning, 00:26:24.000 --> 00:26:30.000 there are some volunteers with orange vests, as filters. 00:26:54.000 --> 00:26:59.000 Once having passed them, there is the place to assemble the raft. 00:26:59.000 --> 00:27:07.000 After having assembled the raft there are other volunteers to help to carry the raft to the sea. 00:27:55.000 --> 00:27:59.000 The best moment is when all the rafts leave the port to go to La Concha, 00:27:59.000 --> 00:28:01.000 but behind all that, there is a lot of voluntary and communitary work. 00:28:01.000 --> 00:28:08.000 And, that is why, an organisation was started to mantain order; each group has an hour to assemble their raft, 00:28:08.000 --> 00:28:15.000 and there are some volunteers to make the participants respect the schedule. 00:28:15.000 --> 00:28:24.000 Afterwards, there are other volunteers in the water gathering and ordering all the rafts. 00:28:24.000 --> 00:28:29.000 "In a half an hour, Donostia will be ours..." 00:28:30.000 --> 00:28:38.000 And in the morning, when people are preparing the rafts, there are other volunteers preparing the lunch, 00:28:42.000 --> 00:28:46.000 and when the boarding starts, at the same time, the organisers start cleaning up everything. 00:28:46.000 --> 00:28:52.000 and they keep on cleaning, until everyone gets to La Concha and everyone leaves. 00:28:52.000 --> 00:28:53.000 All aboard! 00:29:27.000 --> 00:29:30.000 "Drop anchor, down the bow..." 00:29:30.000 --> 00:29:33.000 "We've arrived with the strength of 200 cannons" 00:29:33.000 --> 00:29:35.000 "Throughout Donostia the laugh of the skull" 00:29:35.000 --> 00:29:38.000 "We've arrived with the strenght of 200 cannons" 00:29:38.000 --> 00:29:41.000 "Throughout Donostia the laugh of the skull" 00:30:06.000 --> 00:30:14.000 Security is also essential, and, that is why we work with the Red Cross and the firefighters. 00:30:14.000 --> 00:30:19.000 "The flag of the party waves next to the seaguls" 00:30:19.000 --> 00:30:25.000 "The wooden leg dancing in the streets" 00:30:25.000 --> 00:30:30.000 "The flag of the party waves next to the seaguls" 00:30:30.000 --> 00:30:35.000 "the wooden leg dancing in the streets" 00:30:38.000 --> 00:30:46.000 And then, when we arrive at the beach, there are people cleaning up everything until it gets dark. 00:31:36.000 --> 00:31:44.000 There are around 200 people in the organisation, and without this community work, "Abordaia" (the boarding) wouldn't exist. 00:31:44.000 --> 00:31:45.000 We threw the stone 00:31:45.000 --> 00:31:52.000 and we saw that from the first time the citizens joined the iniciative that we proposed. 00:31:52.000 --> 00:31:55.000 At that time, we had a question. 00:31:55.000 --> 00:32:07.000 How are we going to get back all the spaces that the city council and other authorities have taken away from us, the citizens? 00:32:07.000 --> 00:32:11.000 And some years later, we created "Irrikitaldia" 00:32:11.000 --> 00:32:15.000 An event where we parody the attitudes of the city council and the mayor 00:32:15.000 --> 00:32:18.000 and the obstacles they put. 00:32:24.000 --> 00:32:29.000 What do you think about this year's programme? 00:32:31.000 --> 00:32:34.000 Odon! Odon! (Ex-mayor of Donostia, Odon Elorza) 00:32:34.000 --> 00:32:41.000 Authorities try to impose a logic where they are always in first line. 00:32:41.000 --> 00:32:50.000 The priest, the soldier, the mayor... they are always in the first line, and the rest are secondary participants. 00:32:50.000 --> 00:32:52.000 That crash is a popular festival 00:32:52.000 --> 00:32:58.000 People boost a festival where they are the participants. 00:32:58.000 --> 00:33:02.000 And a festival that is imposed by a power has created a lot of contradictions. 00:33:02.000 --> 00:33:06.000 00:33:06.000 --> 00:33:11.000 00:33:11.000 --> 00:33:13.000 00:33:13.000 --> 00:33:17.000 00:33:17.000 --> 00:33:24.000 00:33:24.000 --> 00:33:36.000 00:33:36.000 --> 00:33:42.000 00:33:48.000 --> 00:33:51.000 00:33:51.000 --> 00:33:53.000 00:33:53.000 --> 00:33:56.000 00:34:35.000 --> 00:34:40.000 00:34:40.000 --> 00:34:46.000 00:34:46.000 --> 00:34:52.000 00:34:52.000 --> 00:34:57.000 00:34:57.000 --> 00:35:01.000 00:35:01.000 --> 00:35:08.000 00:35:08.000 --> 00:35:12.000 00:35:12.000 --> 00:35:19.000 00:35:19.000 --> 00:35:22.000 00:35:22.000 --> 00:35:29.000 00:35:29.000 --> 00:35:34.000 00:35:34.000 --> 00:35:40.000 00:35:40.000 --> 00:35:45.000 00:35:45.000 --> 00:35:50.000 00:35:50.000 --> 00:35:58.000 00:35:58.000 --> 00:36:01.000 00:36:01.000 --> 00:36:11.000 00:36:11.000 --> 00:36:14.000 00:36:14.000 --> 00:36:19.000 00:36:19.000 --> 00:36:24.000 00:36:25.000 --> 00:36:30.000 00:36:30.000 --> 00:36:36.000 00:36:36.000 --> 00:36:40.000 00:36:40.000 --> 00:36:44.000 00:36:44.000 --> 00:36:52.000 00:36:52.000 --> 00:37:06.000 00:37:07.000 --> 00:37:16.000 00:37:17.000 --> 00:37:20.000 00:37:20.000 --> 00:37:30.000 00:37:30.000 --> 00:37:32.000 00:37:32.000 --> 00:37:43.000 00:37:43.000 --> 00:37:53.000 00:37:53.000 --> 00:37:55.000 00:37:55.000 --> 00:38:01.000 00:38:01.000 --> 00:38:08.000 00:38:33.000 --> 00:38:38.000 00:38:38.000 --> 00:38:43.000 00:38:45.000 --> 00:38:51.000 00:38:51.000 --> 00:39:03.000 00:39:03.000 --> 00:39:14.000 00:39:29.000 --> 00:39:35.000 00:39:35.000 --> 00:39:39.000 00:39:39.000 --> 00:39:43.000 00:39:43.000 --> 00:39:47.000 00:39:47.000 --> 00:39:49.000 00:39:49.000 --> 00:39:52.000 00:39:52.000 --> 00:39:54.000 00:39:54.000 --> 00:39:57.000 00:40:55.000 --> 00:40:59.000 00:41:00.000 --> 00:41:04.000 00:41:04.000 --> 00:41:13.000 00:41:13.000 --> 00:41:22.000 00:41:22.000 --> 00:41:34.000 00:41:34.000 --> 00:41:41.000 00:41:41.000 --> 00:41:53.000 00:41:53.000 --> 00:42:00.000 00:42:00.000 --> 00:42:01.000 00:42:01.000 --> 00:42:09.000 00:42:09.000 --> 00:42:17.000 00:42:17.000 --> 00:42:26.000 00:42:26.000 --> 00:42:29.000 00:42:29.000 --> 00:42:40.000 00:42:40.000 --> 00:42:44.000 00:42:44.000 --> 00:42:49.000 00:42:49.000 --> 00:42:53.000 00:42:53.000 --> 00:43:01.000 00:43:01.000 --> 00:43:11.000 00:43:11.000 --> 00:43:17.000 00:43:17.000 --> 00:43:21.000 00:43:21.000 -->
