Trap
Before having the current permit, I was here without any documents.
Once, the police called me when I was walking on the street.
I just pretended not to hear them because I didn't have any money.
I only had RM 9 and my friend had RM 50.
After that, the police called me again.
"Woi! Are you deaf?", he shouted.
I then turned and asked him "Did you call me?"
He said yes. He then asked me to come near to him.
I went there and he asked for my permit and all.
I said I dont have it.
He then told me I'd need to taken with him.
I asked if this can be sorted here. He said no and told me he would take me to the police station.
I said to him that's fine because I do want to go back to Indonesia but I cant afford it.
Because my pay is only RM 700.
It's not enough to make a permit, return to Indonesia, pay rent or to provide for my children back home.
That's what I told him.
They then took me and my friend, Sukama, to the top-most floor of the parking area at Giant (Supermarket).
He talked to me there.
He asked me who will bail me out.
I said no one, because I have no family or relatives here.
Even my husband is in Indonesia, I told him.
After that, he asked how much do I have.
I told him I only have RM 9. I gave him my wallet too.
Together with my friend's money, we gave him RM59.
After that, he said didn't want to accept the money.
He said that he wasn't asking for money.
That's what one of the officers said. One asked, and the other didn't ask.
After that he said that I don't have someone to bail me out, he'd have to bring me to the station.
I cried to him, and I tugged at him.
After that, he said that I'm good at acting. He talked like that.
I said, no, I'm just asking for help sir.
This is all the money have, sir. And I have three kids.
My friend said that she was still having a baby.
After that, he (the policeman) took all the money.
I said, Sir if could I please have some of the small change because I don't know the way here.
Even if I have to take a taxi, I don't have any money left.
So can I have the small change sir?
I will give you the RM 50, I told him.
He agreed. After that, he pointed his finger to me, like this.
Go look what's under that fire truck, he said.
I looked and I don't see anything sir, I said.
Just look under the fire engine, see what's there, he said.
When I looked underneath there was underwear, women's underwear.
Who did this, sir, I asked.
Last night, there was someone who did that, he said.
After that, I arrested them, he said.
Maybe he (the policeman) did it himself, I replied.
He said no, someone did it.
Was it an Indonesian or a Malay, I asked.
He said it was a Malay person.
I said, well it's the same whether Indonesian or Malay. There are people like that.
Yes, there's no difference, there are people like that, he said.
So if you have no one to bail you out, can you do something like that, he said.
I said, I won't. I don't want to.
After that, he took my money. I got out of the car.
He pointed me the way through the Giant (Supermarket) to Bintan.
He pointed me the small stairs that lead to Giant (Supermarket).
To the shopping mall.
After that I ran. I asked people for way to Padang Jawa.
When I got here, was already night time.
Because I was going home at 5pm, but by the time we finished talking it was already 7pm.
If I didn't have my friend that day, I don't know what would have happened to me.
I've ever experienced, along Jalan Kebun.
Jalan Kebun, which is near the police station in Bukit Rimau.
I've ever been in the cell there for several hours.
Those police did many things. I was taken by two officers.
At that time, I wanted to go to Klang.
I wanted to buy milk for my friend.
I was chased by police. I ran, but they caught me.
I was caught and brought to the police station at Bukit Rimau.
I was put in a cell there.
Over there, I was asked to massage him (the policeman).
But that was outside, not inside.
He said, I'm tired from chasing you just now.
You know, I can't run like that, he said.
After that he called me and put me in the jail cell.
So I was put in the cell but my friend wasn't.
That policeman he closed the door and he tried to grab me. He tried to make me lie down there.
He asked me who will bail you out. I said, I don't have anyone, sir.
I said, I still don't have any work here, sir. I don't have any money.
So he said, if you don't have money what you can be done?
I said, sir, I'm here to find work, to support my children.
So he said, I can help you. But you have to help me also.
What can I help with sir, I asked.
Do you want or not, if I sleep with you, he asked.
I said, please don't do something like that, sir. I'm someone else's wife.
I asked, If your wife sleeps with another man, how would you feel, sir?
Won't you be angry, sir? And we are Muslims. In Islam that's a big sin, I said.
And he said, you're showing off here right?
It's okay then, if you behave like that, he said and went out.
I don't know where he went after that. Not long after that I got out with my friend.
But I don't know what happened to my other friend with the other policeman.
But in my case, I didn't want to sleep with him.
After I got out, that policeman looked like he really hated me.
He was really angry, and stared at me.
I got out without paying or sleeping with him.
But that policeman asked for my phone number.
He called me again and again, and in the end...
After that my friend helped me to change my number.
It's like that, the police always use to gain something from women, especially when she is beautiful.
So, we women who are here without documents, these are the kinds of things we're afraid of.
