0:00:22.487,0:00:28.170 It will be myself, Nermin Selimic,[br]I'm the COO at RAZ Mobility. 0:00:28.760,0:00:37.021 And I am especially glad [br]to have Jerry Jicha, on our call, 0:00:37.021,0:00:40.535 who is the accessibility specialist[br]at RAZ Mobility 0:00:40.535,0:00:45.171 and who will be covering[br]a significant part of the demo today, 0:00:45.171,0:00:49.911 in particular about Android accessibility[br]for blind users. 0:00:50.607,0:00:56.244 I would like to extend my thanks to[br]two people 0:00:56.244,0:00:59.327 who are making this call possible[br]on the support side. 0:00:59.697,0:01:01.258 It is Gayl Hardeman, 0:01:01.258,0:01:06.063 who is the interpreter[br]and is providing the CART services, 0:01:06.434,0:01:11.992 and it is also Emil, one of our technical[br]support specialists from RAZ Mobility, 0:01:11.992,0:01:14.612 who is staying in the background 0:01:14.612,0:01:19.369 and making sure that all the technology[br]is running as smooth as possible. 0:01:19.827,0:01:25.494 I would like to mention, at any time,[br]please feel free to interrupt, 0:01:25.961,0:01:30.679 either for questions – although[br]we will have two Q&A sessions 0:01:30.981,0:01:35.403 throughout the Webinar – but also,[br]if you believe that your questions 0:01:35.403,0:01:40.884 are extremely relevant and important[br]to be asked at that moment, 0:01:40.884,0:01:42.920 please feel free to interrupt. 0:01:43.250,0:01:47.520 Or, in case there are[br]major technical difficulties 0:01:47.520,0:01:53.374 and you are not able[br]to participate in the Webinar 0:01:53.374,0:01:57.705 so that we can address that[br]as well as possible. 0:02:00.072,0:02:05.146 Quick introduction about RAZ Mobility. 0:02:06.273,0:02:10.959 RAZ Mobility was founded in 2015[br]to offer 0:02:10.959,0:02:15.167 States equipment and distribution programs[br]and other government agencies, 0:02:15.167,0:02:17.998 as well as senior[br]and assisted living providers, 0:02:18.013,0:02:21.302 schools, nonprofit organizations[br]and for-profit companies, 0:02:21.302,0:02:25.907 as well as consumers, the very latest[br]in mobile assistive technology. 0:02:26.899,0:02:32.356 We at RAZ Mobility view ourselves[br]as an agent for change 0:02:32.362,0:02:35.329 dedicated to ensuring that its customers 0:02:35.329,0:02:40.002 benefit from the dramatic progress[br]and evolution in mobile technology. 0:02:40.177,0:02:45.727 And many of you were able to witness,[br]especially over the last five years, 0:02:45.729,0:02:51.242 and overall, over the last ten years,[br]with the advent of mobile technology, 0:02:51.242,0:02:56.591 many, many aspects of assistive technology[br]have changed significantly 0:02:56.591,0:03:02.535 and have allowed for a significant[br]improvement in assistive technology 0:03:02.828,0:03:09.091 and have added many components that[br]were unthinkable just several years ago. 0:03:09.521,0:03:12.396 And that's exactly our focus[br]at RAZ Mobility. 0:03:12.396,0:03:17.457 We are searching for unique solutions[br]and cutting edge solutions. 0:03:18.122,0:03:22.996 Sometimes it is purely the device[br]which is exceptional and different. 0:03:23.312,0:03:29.338 Many times, it is also a combination[br]of the device and the software, 0:03:29.630,0:03:32.327 or simply a third-party solution. 0:03:33.062,0:03:38.667 We have not limited ourselves to work[br]only with the specific providers 0:03:38.667,0:03:45.588 or hardware manufacturers but[br]are rather interacting with providers 0:03:45.592,0:03:49.230 around the globe[br]in order to accomplish this. 0:03:50.094,0:03:56.926 And, many of our solutions[br]are provided by companies 0:03:57.350,0:04:00.176 from the United States,[br]from Europe, 0:04:00.176,0:04:02.463 and from other parts of the world. 0:04:04.124,0:04:10.006 The preferred approach of RAZ Mobility [br]is via making these solutions available 0:04:10.618,0:04:19.974 as Android's operating system[br]mobile devices, smartphones and tablets. 0:04:20.259,0:04:24.951 And we are making[br]these solutions available 0:04:24.958,0:04:29.187 in combination[br]with some third-party applications. 0:04:31.579,0:04:37.073 Android and smartphones and tablets[br]differ a little bit 0:04:37.079,0:04:40.635 compared to other technology[br]in the marketplace. 0:04:40.635,0:04:45.797 In particular,[br]if we are talking about iOS, 0:04:45.797,0:04:51.071 and it is simply that there are[br]two dominant operating systems, 0:04:51.071,0:04:53.718 one being iOS, and the other one Android. 0:04:53.718,0:04:58.811 iOS being purely available[br]on Apple devices 0:04:58.811,0:05:04.151 and on the other hand, we have Android[br]that is an open-source operating system, 0:05:04.151,0:05:08.975 and it is available to[br]any hardware manufacturers 0:05:08.975,0:05:13.004 who are interested in using Android[br]as the operating system. 0:05:13.375,0:05:16.930 Hence, you know,[br]all of you have for sure noticed 0:05:16.930,0:05:20.751 that devices using[br]the Android operating systems 0:05:20.751,0:05:27.966 are available from manufacturers[br]such as LG, Samsung, Motorola, 0:05:27.966,0:05:29.508 and so on, and so on. 0:05:32.178,0:05:38.571 So at this time,[br]Robert joins the Webinar as well, 0:05:38.850,0:05:42.423 and I am here on video,[br]so I will ask Robert to 0:05:42.423,0:05:45.982 -- it will be easier[br]if you can join us on this side. 0:05:45.985,0:05:49.259 We will just need to ask Robert[br]to grab a chair. 0:05:57.936,0:05:59.675 Here you are, we'll be sharing this 0:05:59.688,0:06:03.120 I hope that the video experience[br]will be optimal. 0:06:11.570,0:06:14.900 So moving to the next section, 0:06:14.913,0:06:21.442 and that is actually about Android[br]smartphones and tablets, 0:06:22.614,0:06:28.380 so what is the difference between[br]the Android operating system and iOS? 0:06:28.380,0:06:32.672 The Android operating system[br]has developed over the years 0:06:32.993,0:06:39.056 as the most popular operating system[br]for all mobile devices, 0:06:39.056,0:06:42.412 including tablets and smartphones; 0:06:42.866,0:06:45.629 in particular,[br]if you are talking about tablets, 0:06:45.629,0:06:50.546 it has been the best-selling[br]operating system for tablets since 2013. 0:06:50.754,0:06:56.664 And for smartphones, it is also dominant[br]by any metrics. 0:06:56.664,0:07:04.249 So to illustrate several comparisons[br]and several data points, 0:07:04.623,0:07:07.824 if you are looking in particular[br]in the United States 0:07:07.824,0:07:15.232 and if you are looking at market share[br]as of early 2016, 0:07:16.122,0:07:24.308 nearly 60% of sold devices in early 2016[br]were devices using 0:07:24.308,0:07:26.275 the Android operating system. 0:07:26.791,0:07:32.507 Close to 40% were iOS, so Apple devices. 0:07:32.885,0:07:37.805 And the very, very minimum market share[br]of other operating systems 0:07:37.805,0:07:42.474 that are still out there,[br]such as Blackberry and Windows. 0:07:42.867,0:07:45.192 So there is a clear trend over the time 0:07:45.192,0:07:49.701 that more and more consumers[br]are selecting Android devices, 0:07:51.482,0:07:55.469 and also if you are looking[br]into the overall 0:07:55.472,0:07:57.686 -- (Noise interference) –[br]installed base 0:07:59.554,0:08:05.226 I think someone is -- someone didn't mute[br]his or her phone, so if you can please -- 0:08:08.680,0:08:09.763 and if you are looking 0:08:09.763,0:08:14.758 into the overall base[br]of installed devices 0:08:14.758,0:08:17.755 or devices[br]that are in the hands of consumers, 0:08:18.663,0:08:23.143 we have 52% running on Android[br]in the United States 0:08:23.143,0:08:29.692 and 43.5% are running on iOS,[br]as of 2016. 0:08:29.995,0:08:33.816 So what are[br]the Android operating system advantages? 0:08:33.816,0:08:38.941 So Robert, if you maybe would like[br]to mention a couple of things about that. 0:08:38.941,0:08:40.997 >> Robert Felgar: Well I think that[br]the major advantage 0:08:40.997,0:08:44.271 of the Android operating system,[br]first of all, is its openness. 0:08:44.569,0:08:49.953 So there's a lot more flexibility[br]for third-party applications on Android 0:08:49.953,0:08:55.449 than compared to iOS, and you'll see that[br]in some of the third-party apps 0:08:55.449,0:09:00.828 that we will demonstrate to everyone[br]later in the presentation. 0:09:01.838,0:09:03.885 You can also have custom rounds -- (check) 0:09:03.885,0:09:06.984 >> Nermin Selimic: I think we might[br]have an issue here 0:09:06.984,0:09:14.401 that we didn't hear you well.[br](Adjusting audio.) 0:09:15.182,0:09:18.907 >> Robert Felgar: The major advantage,[br]I think, of the Android operating system 0:09:18.907,0:09:21.114 compared to iOS is its openness. 0:09:21.903,0:09:26.410 So the -- what this does is, it allows[br]third-party application developers 0:09:26.410,0:09:31.001 to develop applications[br]which are not available on the iOS side. 0:09:31.001,0:09:32.453 And you will see some of that. 0:09:32.722,0:09:36.196 We'lll see an example of that[br]later on in the presentation 0:09:36.196,0:09:42.083 when we show you, we'll see a solution[br]for people with low vision. 0:09:44.808,0:09:49.132 You'll also see that on the Android side,[br]you could develop custom ROMs. 0:09:49.967,0:09:53.588 There are widgets,[br]you've got a higher-res screen, 0:09:54.119,0:10:00.252 and there is also multi-window support[br]which is unique to Android. 0:10:00.252,0:10:03.485 And in some devices like the Moto Z Play, 0:10:03.753,0:10:08.798 there is much longer battery life[br]as compared to the iPhone, for example. 0:10:11.929,0:10:14.857 >> Nermin Selimic: So that being said,[br]this, you know -- 0:10:14.857,0:10:21.627 we are moving really to the most important[br]part of today's Webinar, 0:10:21.627,0:10:27.209 and these are the specifics[br]of the Android accessibility and -- 0:10:27.209,0:10:30.044 resulting in the Android advantage. 0:10:30.883,0:10:33.012 So Robert, would you like[br]to cover this part? 0:10:35.094,0:10:36.554 >> Jerry Jicha (check): Sure. 0:10:37.824,0:10:43.110 There are some significant advantages[br]and some great applications 0:10:43.110,0:10:46.696 that are a part[br]of the Android operating system. 0:10:48.124,0:10:52.442 These are functionalities that are[br]native to the operating system. 0:10:52.442,0:10:54.324 They are not third-party applications. 0:10:54.324,0:10:58.324 They are in your settings in most cases,[br]or on other parts of the devices. 0:10:58.728,0:11:02.239 An example is TalkBack,[br]similar to Voiceover, 0:11:02.239,0:11:05.510 which all of you know and[br]we'll be demonstrating that in detail. 0:11:05.526,0:11:10.303 You can turn on and off captions[br]in your accessibility settings. 0:11:10.921,0:11:14.117 There is a great way[br]to increase font size. 0:11:14.519,0:11:18.546 >> (check) Similar to iOS, but with[br]some differences on the Android side, 0:11:18.546,0:11:21.422 you can actually,[br]when you increase your font size, 0:11:21.422,0:11:24.485 you can actually increase everything[br]on your screen, not just font size. 0:11:24.485,0:11:28.269 So the size of the icons, the size[br]of the notifications, et cetera. 0:11:30.505,0:11:34.427 You've got OK Google, similar to Siri, 0:11:35.018,0:11:38.255 which some people find better[br]on the Android side than the iOS side, 0:11:38.255,0:11:40.049 although that is fairly personal. 0:11:40.570,0:11:47.450 Text to speech, magnification gestures[br]which you initiate through triple passing, 0:11:47.450,0:11:50.773 Color inversion for people who have[br]low vision. 0:11:51.202,0:11:56.027 And mono audio also is for people[br]who have issues 0:11:56.027,0:11:59.408 hearing out a particular ear,[br]or color correction. 0:12:02.134,0:12:08.075 >> Nermin Selimic: It is important[br]to mention that 0:12:08.075,0:12:10.371 when you are talking about[br]the Android advantage, 0:12:10.379,0:12:13.927 that obviously the fact that there are[br]multiple manufacturers 0:12:14.332,0:12:17.338 of mobile phones and tablets, 0:12:17.745,0:12:21.669 it does provide to consumers[br]better device options. 0:12:22.269,0:12:26.485 Whereas, if you are looking[br]on the Apple side, it is more 0:12:27.186,0:12:33.147 -- you can get from the Android side[br]as well as on the iOS side, 0:12:33.147,0:12:39.696 you can get a Cadillac solution[br]a Cadillac side solution. 0:12:39.696,0:12:41.863 However, on the Apple side,[br]it is purely -- 0:12:41.863,0:12:43.681 you can purchase only a Cadillac. 0:12:44.541,0:12:47.880 On the Android side,[br]options are really significant. 0:12:47.880,0:12:50.260 There are entry-level models. 0:12:50.260,0:12:55.623 There are great mid-range models[br]of smartphones and tablets, 0:12:56.093,0:12:58.832 as well as top of the range. 0:12:59.124,0:13:03.553 And all of that allows also[br]for the significant competition 0:13:03.553,0:13:04.777 in the marketplace, 0:13:05.027,0:13:10.442 and as consumers, we always know,[br]as long as there is competition, 0:13:10.447,0:13:13.553 typically consumers benefit from that. 0:13:15.748,0:13:20.142 So that being said, I would like to[br]just provide a brief introduction. 0:13:20.145,0:13:24.269 The intention today was not[br]to talk about hardware. 0:13:24.617,0:13:27.854 However, during the demo, 0:13:28.117,0:13:31.030 as we are presenting[br]the accessibility options, 0:13:31.030,0:13:32.999 the built-in accessibility features 0:13:32.999,0:13:36.818 as well as the third-party[br]accessibility application, 0:13:37.295,0:13:40.324 we will be using a specific Android phone. 0:13:40.771,0:13:44.479 In this case, it will be[br]the Motorola Moto Z Play. 0:13:44.948,0:13:49.770 This is a truly great smartphone[br]that was introduced to the marketplace 0:13:50.518,0:13:54.987 in 2016, I believe;[br]to be exact, in October of 2016. 0:13:55.377,0:13:58.175 So you are looking[br]into the Android space 0:13:58.175,0:14:03.654 which is truly almost[br]the top of the range device that offers 0:14:03.654,0:14:13.105 an exceptional high-quality display,[br]in 5.5 inch size, so a big display, 0:14:13.105,0:14:17.021 as big as it can get on a smartphone. 0:14:17.945,0:14:21.561 It is running on the newest Android[br]operating system, 0:14:22.108,0:14:24.978 Android 7, called Nougat. 0:14:25.645,0:14:31.324 It does include an exceptional camera,[br]very strong processor 0:14:31.324,0:14:35.214 and there are two more items[br]that are very, very specific, 0:14:35.214,0:14:39.947 and very beneficial if you are talking[br]about the smartphone. 0:14:40.408,0:14:43.855 And one of them is[br]the very powerful battery. 0:14:44.177,0:14:48.528 So with this smartphone, even users[br]who have significant usage 0:14:48.528,0:14:53.361 throughout the day, they can use the phone[br]easily for more than 50 hours, 0:14:53.362,0:14:57.523 and that's not typical[br]for many smartphones as we know. 0:14:57.820,0:15:01.295 And the other unique option is really 0:15:01.295,0:15:06.847 that this phone is the first[br]modular phone in the world. 0:15:06.847,0:15:09.366 Actually, you can take the back[br]off very easily, 0:15:09.366,0:15:10.895 it’s just attached by a magnet. 0:15:11.359,0:15:15.545 And there are some additional,[br]as Motoracall them, Moto Mods, 0:15:15.545,0:15:17.295 which are actually gadgets 0:15:17.295,0:15:24.160 one of them, we have seen, it is also very[br]popular among hard-of-hearing users, 0:15:24.160,0:15:32.177 it is actually a loud speaker that is[br]an additional 80 decibel speaker. 0:15:32.515,0:15:35.408 And there are additional[br]Moto Mods, such as 0:15:35.767,0:15:41.000 you know, almost a professional camera,[br]additional batteries, 0:15:41.760,0:15:44.852 smartphone holders for the car,[br]I believe as well. 0:15:45.139,0:15:48.401 So it makes this phone[br]really very, very attractive 0:15:48.401,0:15:54.501 and it is significantly more affordable[br]than the top of the range 0:15:54.501,0:15:58.946 iPhone or Samsung phones[br]that are out there. 0:15:58.946,0:16:04.315 So that is the phone that we will be[br]using during the demos today. 0:16:04.970,0:16:10.464 And one more very interesting phone[br]from Motorola 0:16:10.464,0:16:15.266 that I would like just to mention briefly[br]is the newest Motorola phone. 0:16:15.667,0:16:22.128 It is the Moto G5 Plus, that was just[br]released in April. 0:16:22.735,0:16:30.852 So it is, I would say, most likely, the[br]best midrange phone in the marketplace. 0:16:31.580,0:16:38.259 So it is -- it uses (check) for a fact[br]the same processor as the Motor Z play. 0:16:38.724,0:16:46.038 It has many of the great features[br]including a 5.2 inch display. It's already done.[br]It's that simple to do. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Excellent.[br]Thanks, Jerry. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So it does illustrate text messages,[br]you received one. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think just in the interest of time, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 because there are[br]several other categories 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that we would like to cover today,[br]I think it is very intuitive, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 how it works, for people[br]to send text messages and – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to receive text messages, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and for sending text messages, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 there is the option to utilize[br]either voice commands 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or just to type using TalkBack. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I think this is also a good Segway[br]into the third-party application. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You I believe we will not have[br]sufficient time to demo 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 all of the applications, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but we can briefly touch on them[br]and I will be pulling up 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 some of these applications for everyone. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And, Jerry, if you can share[br]some of your experience 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 about several \apps. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The first one that comes to my mind is,[br]Tap Tap See. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: Actually,[br]I was going to say that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 there are two of them that come to mind[br]that are my biggest favorites. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Tap Tap See is one of them. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 How many times have you gone[br]into your refrigerator? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You have bought frozen pizzas[br]or even lasagna. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 My girlfriend and I[br]have been buying lasagnas lately. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 She likes the five-cheese.[br]I like the meat lovers. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The boxes are the exact same size. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 No way to know which is which. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Let's use Tap Tap See. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can take a picture of an item 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it may actually tell you[br]what it is in most cases. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, there are times depending[br]on lighting and things like that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that it may not work right away. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Try to change the angle,[br]try taking the picture a second time,[br]and it usually does work. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I use that app almost on a daily basis. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 One of the other big apps that I use[br]when I am out traveling, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 especially here in Marian, and I just[br]moved here a couple months ago. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I don't know Marion at all. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So when the cab drivers[br]are taking us places, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 one of the apps that I love to use[br]is nearby explore: 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Nearby explorer allows you to hear[br]what streets are coming up, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if the street is on your left[br]or your right, places of interest. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can even bus drivers[br]-- the drivers that you are in – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 one of the things that you can[br]get it to tell you 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is the speed you are driving at. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can also get it to tell you[br]when you are turning on a street 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 what direction you are heading,[br]so you can learn the area 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 just by using that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can start walking the area[br]and using it as well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Great, Jerry.[br]Thanks a lot. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I believe when you and I were talking[br]about the third-party applications, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I believe that you mentioned also[br]the Get There app. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That can be also very helpful[br]for the navigation. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As far as I recall, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you are a big fan[br]of the third-party application 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that allows you to voice-control[br]your camera. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: Well, actually, it's not[br]just the voice control part that I like; 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's the fact that the actual app[br]is perfectly accessible. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 One of the drawbacks[br]on the Moto Z Play 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is the camera app that comes[br]with it by default is zero accessible. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 However, if you download a program[br]called Open Camera, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 not only can you find the shutter button[br]and the zoom controls and everything else, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 just about everything is accessible –[br]switching it from photo to video, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 accessing the settings, which is huge, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 being able to, as Nermin said,[br]saying the word "cheese," such as that, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and you can have it[br]take the picture automatically. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 One of the other big programs that I[br]-- and I totally forget until just now – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that I actually strongly suggest[br]people get 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 -- is KNFB Reader. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This actually came in handy[br]the other day 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 when I went to cook a lasagna[br]in the oven. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I didn't know the directions, and – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 all I had to do was take a picture[br]out of the correct side of the box, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and when it found text[br]that was readable, it read it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, you know, the O.C.R. capability[br]of KNFB Reader is really good. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I have actually used it when my computer[br]has all of a sudden stopped talking. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I have used KNFB Reader,[br]have taken a picture of the screen 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and tried to figure out what the error is. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And figure out what the error is. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can even use it for that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Great![br]Well, Jerry, thanks a lot. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think it was[br]a very impressive presentation, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and also confirmation 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 how the Android accessibility features[br]and options can be used. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Again, thank you very much. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We apologize[br]for the small technical difficulty. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So our original idea was[br]that you would be able 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to see literally Jerry's smartphone. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That didn't happen. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But I was trying to “shadow”[br]Jerry as good as possible, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so I was emulating 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 whatever he was performing[br]on his smartphone. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I must admit Jerry was sometimes[br]moving much faster using TalkBack 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 than I did, looking at the display. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But I think it was still an experience[br]that was representative 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for the use of TalkBack. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So there are two additional features 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 when we are talking about Android[br]and third-party accessibility 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that I would like Robert to talk about,[br]and one of them is actually Braille. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And the other one is the newest[br]Android accessibility feature, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Select to Speak. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Just a quick word[br]about Braille. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 An Android device can be used[br]with a Braille display. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It is used with an app called BrailleBack[br]which has been around a number of years. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We won't be demonstrating it but,[br]like I said, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's been around for a long time. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 One of the new test accessibility features[br]that was added in TalkBack 5.2.0, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which was just released this past week,[br]is an option called Select to Speak. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Select to Speak is a great function[br]for people with low vision. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Select to Speak. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So say the user wants to use[br]their limited vision to call, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it works for that purpose. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Their eyes work sufficiently[br]for that purpose. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But let's say they can't read[br]a news article or e-mail with small fonts. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 They can simply press a little button[br]that appears 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in the right bottom edge of the screen[br]and then pass the part of the screen 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that they want spoken,[br]and then the device will start speaking. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I will just show you on the screen[br]how that works. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Let's first go to CNN as an example. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So we have pulled up CNN. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Let's say we want the device[br]to read the article. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Simply press the button on the right:[br]>> VOICE: Dallas firefighter shot,[br]authorities say. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: So there you go. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That's how you can get the device[br]on any portion of the screen 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that the user cannot see. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It is a good option for people[br]with low vision 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or with any print disability. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: What about Braille[br]and Braille possibility? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: That's what I mentioned,[br]there is an app for that called BrailleBack. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Very good. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So the next part of our Webinar[br]is dedicated to accessibility option 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for low vision users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But before we move to that part[br]of the Webinar, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 clearly the accessibility for people[br]who are blind, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it is a very significant topic, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and I think we went through[br]so many options. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So at this time I would like[br]to open the floor, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if there are any questions, before we move[br]on to the next item on the agenda. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So please feel free to ask questions[br]and don't forget to unmute yourself. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (Pause). 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It appears there are no questions[br]at this time. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So we will move to the next section, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but please keep in mind[br]that we will have at the end, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as I said before, an opportunity for you[br]to ask questions, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in case you have some questions by then,[br]to make sure that there is an opportunity 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for you to ask questions 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and also an opportunity[br]for such questions to be answered. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So we will be moving to the next part, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which is the accessibility[br]for low-vision users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Before I will just read along here[br]to complete. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As previously, you will be able to see[br]the screen of the smartphone 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that I will be utilizing. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Okay. So if you are talking about[br]the accessibility feature 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for low-vision users, clearly,[br]whatever we have seen so far, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 what was presented by Jerry, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that is obviously a great option[br]for many low-vision users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 However, you know, on the other hand,[br]there are many low-vision users 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 who have no need to use TalkBack[br]all the time, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but it was a good solution for them as well. So the Select to Speak that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Robert showed just minutes ago, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think that is a great addition[br]to the accessibility features on Android. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 For a low-vision user[br]who can easily navigate 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 either to place a phone call,[br]to open the dial pad and things like that, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they might be struggling 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if they are reading something[br]that is smaller on the display, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and in that case, they can easily[br]keep the select to talk activated 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 all the time and it is available to them,[br]as you can see here, in the corner. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Correct? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I will press this now,[br]and I will capture the mail app, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and I will try to demo this one more time,[br]so hopefully you can hear it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> VOICE: E-mail. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: And very, very – [br]a tool that is very easy to access 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 at any time. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So in addition to that, there are many,[br]many other built-in options 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for low-vision users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As always, they can be accessed[br]through settings, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and then moving down to accessibility. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So some of the most interesting ones[br]would be, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that I would like to mention here,[br]is the magnification gesture. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So in this case, it is over the switched on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So what happens is, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 basically I will go back now[br]to the home screen. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If I triple tap, you will see that anything[br]that is on the display or screen 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 will be increased. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And then, again, triple tapping[br]will deactivate it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I have heard feedback from some users[br]that if they are typing something 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 very quickly or deleting something[br]and they hit the delete button 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 three times very quickly 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it will actually activate[br]the magnification gesture 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so that is something people[br]should be aware of 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 when they are using it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So it is just a nice feature,[br]although I must admit, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if someone is using that[br]in order to read an optical, let's say, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on Chrome or something like that,[br]it has a significant disadvantage; 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it will increase the text that is there. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But it will be running out of space 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so maybe you will start[br]scrolling to the left or right 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in order to read that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But I think it is very, very helpful option. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Going back into accessibility[br]and all the different options that we have, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we have also the font size[br]that can be adjusted, correct? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So the current setting on this device[br]is default. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I will start changing this now to large,[br]and you can see already 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in the upper part on the screen,[br]what is the change 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and what is the increase in font 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that such change in settings[br]would result in. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So very helpful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Again, it is helpful for low-vision users[br]but only to a certain extent. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Additionally, there are options also[br]to manage the display size, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so how things are being displayed, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in particular if we are talking about[br]the call wall, text messages, so on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As you can see here, this is currently on default. I will change that to large, and, you know, it is also changing. It is very helpful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: One point difference[br]between the display size and font size, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the display size,[br]not only is the text enlarged, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but all other aspects of the font[br]are enlarged – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so the notification, applications,[br]not just the text, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as is the case with font size. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Okay. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The additional option[br]also for low-vision users 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is the text-to-speech output. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You know, we have seen that,[br]and it's not only navigate 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the home screen or just the settings[br]but also to receive text messages 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or e-mails and so on and so on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Additional option is also[br]the color inversion. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This one, unfortunately,[br]when I'm sharing my smartphone screen, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 this one is not being transmitted[br]using the sharing technology. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But basically, what happens,[br]everything is inverted 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so whatever was white,[br]the background becomes black. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Instead of[br]black on white, it is white on black. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Exactly. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And there are many options also[br]for the color correction. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It can be activated, and there are[br]different corrections and modes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There is the red-green, blue-yellow,[br]so on, so on, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 depending on the challenges the user[br]is facing and also 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the type of the vision impairment,[br]that can be adjusted. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 When talking about low-vision users,[br]the very interesting part is actually 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 -- and I just realized I had[br]the color correction on. I apologize. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I will switch that off 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 -- there are very, very powerful[br]third-party applications. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There is one third-party application[br]in particular 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that I wanted to share[br]with everyone today. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And something that is very specific[br]about the application, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the application called Claria Zoom. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Actually very specific. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The application is free. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It only exists on the Android. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If you recall, I did mention[br]at the beginning of this session 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that Android is an open source[br]operating system, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so Android does allow developers,[br]application developers, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as well as hardware manufacturers, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to have more access 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to the operating system and to customize[br]it a little bit more, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the Claria Zoom developers[br]clearly utilized that option, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that benefit 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and they have come up with the[br]Claria Zoom solution for low vision users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So rather than continue to talk[br]about Claria Zoom 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I will show you a couple of things[br]about Claria Zoom 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which I believe are very, very illustrative[br]of the power of Claria Zoom 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the benefits it generates for low vision users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So Claria Zoom can be used in order[br]to create an additional home page. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And in this case,[br]we have adjusted the size of the icons 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on the home screen[br]for the most relevant icons. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So you can see literally[br]that the whole home screen 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on this large 5.5 inch display[br]was utilized to show only four icons. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We have seen in many cases 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that the users[br]with significantly impaired vision 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 were able to continue to use[br]the smartphone 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 exactly because of this solution. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: And to be clear,[br]you can actually customize 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the number of icons[br]that appear on your screen. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So if you didn't want four – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you wanted ten[br]or something of that nature, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you can do that as well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Yes, and you can[br]select the ones you want. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Yes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: In addition to that,[br]as we had seen also 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for the built-in feature, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Claria can also support color inversion[br]as well as color correction. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The approach is exactly the same,[br]only that in this case, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it deals with the larger magnification[br]but that can be supported as well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think what is also very, very interesting[br]in the case of Claria, typically, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the built-in accessibility features,[br]on Android as well as on Apple, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they do provide if somebody is typing[br]a text message, for the keyboard, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the key pad, as well as the text message, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they will be only increased[br]to a certain extent. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But not really as much as is needed[br]for low vision user. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So in the case of Claria,[br]that's actually quite different, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and I will try to show that here. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So as you can see, correct,[br]the key pad is really very, very big. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Correct? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And then, even when you are typing[br]a text message, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it is very easy to use that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Additional options that are built in,[br]you can see here the blue button? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That is actually speech-to-text, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so a text message or e-mail[br]can be dictated as well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 An additional option that is very,[br]very exciting here 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is the ability for users to have[br]easy access to certain content 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on certain websites. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's good to know based on[br]the magnification gesture 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you are increasing the display sizes 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 -- (voice interruption) – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it is increasing,[br]but it is running out of space. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It is impossible to see. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So the benefits that are available[br]to Claria is actually 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that it will pick up the content, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and then process it.[br]>> VOICE: New text found[br]at that location -- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: So in this case,[br]I'm using the Claria browser, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in order to access a website. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So just like any other regular browser. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But then it has the ability to process[br]the content from that website 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and present it as a pure text file[br]where the font is significantly increased, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it's not running out of the display,[br]but rather, it was simply on the screen 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and users can process it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That was a video, so I am trying to.[br]-- trying to … 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as you can see here, so we have[br]a specific article. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And now, that can be converted. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And you can see here how large it is 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and there is nothing[br]that is running out of the display, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the user can continue to scroll down[br]very conveniently. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And all of this, the extracted text,[br]can be also increased even further, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and on top of that, all the color inversion[br]and color correction 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 can be applied to it as well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I think that was really[br]a very significant benefit. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: You can change[br]the colors 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 by simply tapping on the screen[br]with three fingers.[br]You can see how that works. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Excellent. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So Claria Zoom has many,[br]many other options 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as you can see here on the top. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There is also the pull-down display[br]for the other options 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and you can see how big that appears. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I wanted to provide you[br]with some initial experience 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 into Claria's zoom and how it can help[br]a low vision user. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So other great applications[br]that we have seen 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and received great feedback[br]from low vision users 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 are applications such as the[br]Dragon Mobile Assistant 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for voice command. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It works very well and is very popular. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There is also the IDEAL magnifier[br]that can be used literally for anything; 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 correct? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We have the phone built-in camera[br]that is actually picking up 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 whatever the user would like to see. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Magnified is a part of the -- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I don't know, from a magazine[br]or something like that, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or some instructions on a product[br]or a packaging, and so on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Moving to great applications[br]such as the Giganticon, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that one is actually very interesting. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It is somehow like only one part[br]of Claria Zoom, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so the only thing, in quotes,[br]that it does is actually, all the – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 all the application icons[br]that we have seen are here 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on the home screen. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Selected icons can then be included[br]into Giganticon will show up 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on the screen making it much easier[br]for users to navigate. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I am trying to accelerate the pace[br]in order to make sure 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we have enough time[br]for the remaining sections 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and also for questions and answers. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But I believe between Jerry's[br]very detailed presentation of Talkback, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and some of the specific options[br]for low vision users, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think the overall accessibility for users[br]who are blind or low vision 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is very, very helpful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So moving to the next part 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is the accessibility[br]for Deaf and hard of hearing users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There are multiple built-in options[br]such as captions. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We see text messages are very popular[br]among users. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There are options for users[br]who are deaf in one ear, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so there is an adjustment for the audio 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so that purely mono audio[br]is being streamed. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And then also, when you are talking[br]about notifications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 there are great notifications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that can be utilized[br]as pop-up notifications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and there is incoming e-mail or[br]text messages notifications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as well as vibration. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So when you are talking about captions, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think that it is something that is[br]very easy to show here. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And you can see here,[br]it can be accessed as always. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And you have multiple options[br]to adjust the language settings 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as well as the text size. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Currently the text size is very large. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And the text size can be changed[br]to normal. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And you can see it is[br]significantly smaller, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so it does show right away[br]what the text size will be 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as well as the caption style. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So many options that are available[br]on the captions. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Mono audio I mentioned. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That is also very, very helpful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Then we are looking into 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 a significant selection[br]of third-party applications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 such as closed-caption players. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The Pro Deaf translator is really a very,[br]very interesting application 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that can help individuals who are deaf[br]for an in-person communication 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if they are trying to communicate[br]to someone who doesn't know ASL. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I hope it will work now here[br]with screen sharing. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But this is actually very, very nice. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So basically users can type in[br]a certain word, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the solution will convert that[br]into ASL. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Cool. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: So it just illustrates[br]how many options are out there, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that there are many, many developers[br]who are trying to come up 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with some great solutions. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, I think what is most relevant 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for individuals who are deaf[br]or hard-of-hearing, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if we are talking about smartphones[br]and tablets 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and if we are talking about[br]communication, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that is all the tools that are available[br]related to relay services. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So if you are talking about[br]Hamilton CapTel, solutions like that, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or clear caption, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 those will work very well[br]on Android devices. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I think, Robert, you wanted[br]to mention something 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that is also new applications[br]on the development? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Yes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There's a couple of exciting[br]new applications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that are being developed[br]that aren't quite available yet 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but are worth mentioning[br]and teasing a little bit about. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 First of all, there's an application[br]available 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 -- or that will be available soon – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that will allow the user[br]of an Android phone – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it won't be available at least initially[br]on iPhone - 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it will allow the person to take[br]an audiogram with their device 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and then all the output that comes[br]from the device will be adjusted, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so the pitch will be adjusted[br]based on the audiogram. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So basically the phone will be acting[br]to a significant extent like a hearing aid. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So when a person speaks on the phone,[br]they won't be hearing that normal tone; 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the pitch and so forth will be adjusted[br]based on that audiogram. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So in a sense, the need for hearing aids[br]when people speak on the phone 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 will be significantly reduced. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And we are expecting that to come out[br]within the next two months, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which is really, really exciting. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Another app that is being developed,[br]and we just tested it the other day, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is a service that captions[br]ongoing phone calls. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So the calling party and the called party, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if they have this app on their device, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 whatever either party says[br]will be transcribed visibly 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on the device using the regular dialer,[br]without a communications assistant. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So basically they will be using[br]speech-to-text. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The speech-to-text engine of Google –[br]to provide the transcription, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 instead of the CA in the middle. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And we actually tested this this last week[br]and it works amazingly well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And like I said, one of the amazing things[br]about it, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if you simply use your regular dialer,[br]you don't need to download 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 any sort of fancy app[br]or anything like that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 These are things which are coming,[br]both of which will be unique to Android. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Thank you, Robert. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There is one more application[br]that is very, very interesting. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I found this very, very helpful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This is actually the application[br]called TextHear,[br]which is an application that provides[br]speech-to-text transcription. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Text Hear. It can be installed[br]on any Android device, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it will actually be providing[br]a live text-to-speech transcription. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So it works very well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The device needs to be online[br]so that it can be supported. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As mentioned, I have used it[br]on multiple occasions 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 when there was no interpreter available,[br]and it did work very well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: And one last point[br]about 3rd party apps. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 All the major VRS and caption apps[br]that are available for iOS 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 are also available for Android, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so all the large VRS companies[br]like Sorenson and Purple and so on, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they both have both Android[br]and iOS applications. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: So we were talking 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so much about[br]different 3rd party applications, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and there are literally tens of thousands[br]of accessibility applications out there. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Many are truly exceptional,[br]they work very well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Others are rather disappointing; 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they don't work at all[br]or they are not reliable, so on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So here at RAZ Mobility in order to make[br]things easier for consumers, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we did initiate an effort 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that resulted in the RAZ[br]Mobility application installer app. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Can you share, Robert, some info[br]about RAZ Mobility's application? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Yes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The application is essentially[br]a list and description 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 of all the applications that we felt 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 were helpful to people[br]with various types of disabilities. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So we just turned on the application. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can see that there are[br]a number of categories such as 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 hearing, vision, speech and cognition. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And let's say you have a –[br]you are hard of hearing or you are deaf. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You click or tap on the hearing category,[br]and then you can see 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 a number of the suggested applications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for people that are[br]hard of hearing or deaf. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And we've gone through all of those 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and kind of separated the wheat[br]from the chaff, if you know what I mean,[br]and tested the ones we think[br]are really good 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and gotten rid of those apps that[br]we did not think are actually helpful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Then you can see with vision, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 there's a similar list of applications[br]that we recommend. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And then, if you tap on[br]one of these applications,[br]let's say Braille -- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: That has[br]to be installed. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That one has not been installed. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Okay. I will tap on[br]Giganticon – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it takes you to the Play Store[br]where the app can be downloaded 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the app will be installed. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It is available on the Google Play Store. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can download it or try it simply[br]by typing in RAZ Mobility, and it's free. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: So it's on Google Play, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 just to search for RAZ Mobility[br]on Google Play and it will show up. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So it provides a great selection,[br]as mentioned, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it makes the installation very easy. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If users have the RAZ Mobility app,[br]open the app, select the category, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 find one of the recommended apps, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the next step is just to install[br]the app, and they are actually done. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And we are also updating[br]the list of applications, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 adding some new applications. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We have seen in some cases,[br]in some applications we have, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 because they stopped performing[br]as well as they did in the past. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But we are adding more applications. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Also a disclaimer. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Most of the applications[br]that we have selected 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in the RAZ Mobility store[br]are free applications. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There are some applications[br]that do require a payment. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And we did label such applications[br]accordingly. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So just before we move[br]to the Q&A part of our Webinar today, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Robert, any closing remarks[br]related to Android methods 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that you would like to provide? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: I just want to say[br]that Android accessibility 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 has really come a long way[br]over the years. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There was a perception for a long time[br]that Android was behind iOS, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and TalkBack wasn't as good[br]as Voiceover. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But I think you see –[br]saw from Jerry's presentation 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that you can do pretty much everything[br]on Android using TalkBack 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as you can with Voiceover in the iOS 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and they are really quick[br]and comparable in many respects. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Furthermore there is a Google team[br]that is working on TalkBack constantly. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Like I said, the next version, 5.2.0,[br]came out last week, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and I am sure they already started[br]working on the next version. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So for six months or so 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 there are important updates[br]or improvements 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so we are expecting[br]continued improvements, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and Google is constantly investing[br]in new accessibility features 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with each release. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Thanks, Robert. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So we are moving now to[br]questions and answers. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Please feel free to ask[br]any type of questions. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In case there are questions[br]that we cannot answer immediately, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we will be more than glad to follow up 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with you and either reach out to you[br]or provide answers via e-mail. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I know that some questions[br]were coming into the chat option[br]in the conferencing tool. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I don't have access to all of them[br]at this time. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's just a little bit challenging[br]to formulate all of that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So please feel free to ask[br]such questions now. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So hit the mute button[br]and unmute yourself,[br]or we will be following up with you[br]by e-mail 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and answer all of your questions. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Hi, this is Sarah from[br]the Minnesota TED program. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I have a question.[br]>> Sure, Sarah. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> I was just wondering,[br]you guys have the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 -- let's see here -- you called it[br]the RAZ Mobility installer app, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or installer. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 How do you determine[br]if a specific accessible app 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is good for that person with disability? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Do you have people with disabilities[br]test the devices? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Like what is your criteria? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: So, here is[br]the following process, Sarah, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that we have. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Yes, people with disabilities,[br]it is relevant, and they do ask – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we do ask people in focus groups[br]to provide feedback. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We also ask does it work,[br]and is it relevant and helpful for them? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Even before that,[br]and what we have seen is necessary, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is to test apps for their functionality[br]and reliability. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There have been certain apps[br]which really have some issues. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I would say the concept is great.[br]They can be very helpful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But, you know, in real life, they don't –[br]they simply don't perform, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 from a technical standpoint. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Their reliability is not there,[br]or their performance is a little bit – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it works on Mondays[br]but not on Tuesdays, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for whatever reason. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So these are the two most important[br]avenues that we look at 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 when we are trying to come up[br]with the recommendation. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Also, Sarah,[br]and there is a flexibility app. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Let's say for your program 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you want add different app[br]to be installed 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or an additional app 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and we have the flexibility to do that[br]for individual programs. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Sarah: Okay. Thank you. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: I think there was[br]a question here asked in the chat room. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What about features for people[br]with learning disabilities? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That is an excellent question. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Yes, there are features and especially[br]there are 3rd party applications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for people with specific[br]cognitive disabilities. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And if you take a look[br]at the RAZ Mobility installer application, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you can see here that our category[br]does exist for cognition, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and its application such as[br]the autism express or ACSE for autism 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so there are applications for people[br]with learning disabilities as well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (Pause). 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Sorry. It's Sally. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 With iOS, they have the rotor capability 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 where if you are surfing the web,[br]for example, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you can select [br]what your swipes would do. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 For example, going by heading or link. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Does the feature exist with TalkBack? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Let's see if we still[br]have Jerry on the phone, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think if he is, he is the best person[br]to answer that question. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Jerry, are you still on the call? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Okay, looks like[br]he's not there. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But I am virtually positive –[br]although I am not -- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: I am here. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Oh, you are, Jerry.[br]Could you answer that question, please? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: In my case, yes,[br]there actually is a gesture 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that will do things like paragraph,[br]line, character. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And when you are in the web browser,[br]it will do things like heading. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And all you have to do to that gesture[br]is -- give me one moment here – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you just do like a swipe down.[br]>> VOICE: Words, line. Paragraph.[br]Default. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: See? So default is[br]the default action. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But let's say I were to highlight[br]an item -- real quick -- work me MDM. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> VOICE: Actions reduced, characters. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: So if I swiped it[br]right right now -- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> VOICE: W O R K – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: As you see, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it will actually read it[br]character by character, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 because I changed what the swipe does. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I hope that answers that question. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> It does. Thank you. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: It's not rotor, is it? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: It is a rotor in the sense[br]that when you do a down gesture – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 because the up gesture does[br]the opposite way – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 then you go through a list of options. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Then you check the one you want. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So it is a rotor sort of, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but you don't have to like[br]turn your fingers on the screen[br]to access it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can just do like a swipe up[br]or a swipe down. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As you saw me do earlier –[br]maybe you saw it -- I was flipping down. And if I flick up -- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> VOICE: Paragraph right word[br]paragraph 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: See, it is actually going[br]backwards through the list, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so it is actually a rotor in that sense. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Thank you, Jerry. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Jerry Jicha: And Sally, if you like, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we can summarize and provide[br]the exact response via e-mail. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Sally: Thank you very much. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Are there[br]any other questions at this time? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> What about specifically[br]for deaf-blind? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Are there -- sorry. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Do you have things that are specifically[br]for deaf-blind? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: Well, we don't have[br]any applications 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that are specifically for deaf-blind. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 They are either for one or the other. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You know, obviously Braille,[br]a Braille display can be used 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 by individuals who are deaf-blind[br]and you've got BrailleBack. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But we don't have anything that is[br]unique that is intended for both, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that I am aware of, on Android. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: And I assume[br]you are referring to a scenario of – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 yes, I think your answer is all right. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There is nothing that has been[br]developed specifically for the deaf-blind 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 other than the BrailleBack. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar:Right. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> And what about answering[br]telephones, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if you have a physical disability[br]where you can't actually – 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you know, somebody who has –[br]is a quadriplegic. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 How could they answer a phone call? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Excellent question. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Today we were focused around[br]vision and hearing 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as the backdrop of disability. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There are additional products[br]offered by RAZ Mobility. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In particular, I would mention[br]two other types of disabilities. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There's actually speech impairment 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and also individuals[br]with mobility disabilities. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And going back to your question,[br]there is a solution that we are offering 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which is called Sesame solution. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That provides the opportunity to people[br]who cannot control their hands for, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you know, typical reasons[br]we have seen, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 like connected with the service,[br]the VA, in the area of amputees, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for instance; amputees, so on,[br]returning from the Armed Services. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So controlling any smartphone or tablet,[br]any Android smartphone or tablet, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they can control them[br]either by their head movement 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or through an extended range[br]of voice commands. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So they can easily answer[br]an incoming call by simply saying 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "Sesame, answer the call."[br]Or "End call." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 They can open up applications,[br]they can type text messages, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 by using this specific solution that[br]consists of an Android mobile device, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 a selected Android mobile device, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and special software[br]that is installed on it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 No other equipment is needed 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it actually uses the device[br]that is built in camera 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in order to track the user's[br]head movement. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And it worked very well[br]even in scenarios 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 where users had limited[br]head movement. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Robert Felgar: And that's[br]an example of a solution, again, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that is only available[br]on the Android platform. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It can't be built for iOS. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Nermin Selimic: Does that[br]answer your question? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 >> Yes.
