Click Your Fortune Episode 3 (Demo)

  • 0:02 - 0:03
    TED-Ed team here.
  • 0:03 - 0:04
As you know, we usually post
  • 0:04 - 0:06
    animated educator lessons,
  • 0:06 - 0:08
but today we wanted to try something a little different,
  • 0:08 - 0:10
and we need your help to figure out next steps.
  • 0:10 - 0:12
We've recently learned that a large number
  • 0:12 - 0:13
    of students that use TED-Ed
  • 0:13 - 0:15
want to know more about career options,
  • 0:15 - 0:17
and that they and the teachers and guidance counselors
  • 0:17 - 0:19
that work with them need better tools
  • 0:19 - 0:20
    to make that happen.
  • 0:20 - 0:21
We've been busy trying to design
  • 0:21 - 0:24
an interactive series to meet those needs,
  • 0:24 - 0:25
and today we want to share three videos
  • 0:25 - 0:28
that demo how the series could work.
  • 0:28 - 0:29
    Each video features four people
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    with four different careers
  • 0:31 - 0:34
    reading questions submitted by students.
  • 0:34 - 0:35
    The answers to those questions
  • 0:35 - 0:37
and follow-up questions can be explored
  • 0:37 - 0:40
    choose-your-own-adventure style through annotations.
  • 0:40 - 0:42
For the purposes of the demo,
  • 0:42 - 0:44
we sourced a few questions from students
  • 0:44 - 0:45
and recruited a few TED speakers
  • 0:45 - 0:47
and other professionals to answer the questions,
  • 0:47 - 0:49
but those two things were done independently
  • 0:49 - 0:50
    of one another.
  • 0:50 - 0:51
The idea for the actual series
  • 0:51 - 0:53
is that the next set of videos
  • 0:53 - 0:55
would only feature questions and people
  • 0:55 - 0:58
suggested and voted up by you, the viewers.
  • 0:58 - 0:59
So, if you tell us that the next video
  • 0:59 - 1:01
    should undoubtedly feature an arachnologist,
  • 1:01 - 1:02
    an album art creator,
  • 1:02 - 1:04
    a particle physicist,
  • 1:04 - 1:04
    and an engineer,
  • 1:04 - 1:07
all giving away their trade secrets for your benefit,
  • 1:07 - 1:10
we'll try our best to make that happen.
  • 1:10 - 1:11
We think this could be a pretty fun series,
  • 1:11 - 1:14
and we look forward to your feedback.
  • 1:14 - 1:15
    Enjoy the demo!
  • 1:18 - 1:19
Now for the story of you,
  • 1:19 - 1:21
    the TED-Ed community,
  • 1:21 - 1:23
    your questions about potential careers,
  • 1:23 - 1:25
and the TED speakers and working professionals
  • 1:25 - 1:28
that you nominate to answer those questions.
  • 1:28 - 1:29
    It's an interactive show.
  • 1:29 - 1:32
    Welcome to "Click Your Fortune."
  • 1:36 - 1:38
    "My name is Jennifer Indovina.

as well as MOLO class technologies
  • 2:06 - 2:08
for sanitation in the developing world."
  • 2:08 - 2:11
"I'm Deena Gornick, and I'm an executive coach.
  • 2:11 - 2:13
And what that means is that I work
  • 2:13 - 2:16
with women and men in business,
  • 2:16 - 2:19
and I help them get out of their own way
  • 2:19 - 2:22
to get what they want out of their careers
  • 2:22 - 2:23
    and out of their lives."
  • 2:23 - 2:26
