Click Your Fortune #2: Resume tip - Sandra Aamodt

  • 0:04 - 0:07
So, when we first started hiring people,
  • 0:07 - 0:08
    I had the idea
  • 0:08 - 0:11
that really the only important thing
  • 0:11 - 0:15
was that I get the smartest person
  • 0:15 - 0:17
    to hire for the job,
  • 0:17 - 0:21
and that actually turned out to be wrong
  • 0:21 - 0:24
    because in practice
  • 0:24 - 0:25
    it matters so much
  • 0:25 - 0:27
whether the person that you hire
  • 0:27 - 0:29
fits in well with the team,
  • 0:29 - 0:33
knows how to work with other people.
  • 0:33 - 0:38
You can get people who are really brilliant
  • 0:38 - 0:41
but still manage to pull down the performance
  • 0:41 - 0:44
    of everyone else around them,
  • 0:44 - 0:46
and so I gradually started looking
  • 0:46 - 0:52
more and more toward social skills and initiative
  • 0:52 - 0:55
and these kinds of soft skills
  • 0:55 - 0:57
that didn't seem as important in the beginning
  • 0:57 - 0:59
but actually turn out to make a huge difference
  • 0:59 - 1:02
in how people perform on the job.
