President Barack Obama announced a series of gun-control measures on Wednesday -- including proposals for enhanced background checks and a ban on military-style assault weapons -- that are aimed at reducing gun violence after the mass shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut last month. The measures are a mix of what Obama wants Congress to take and moves that the White House can accomplish without congressional approval, through executive orders.
